OverCoat Posted January 22, 2003 Posted January 22, 2003 COOL! This is total ear candy. Excellent choice of instruments and noises. I totally dig the delayed fret noises! It's very bizarre yet pleasing and relaxing at the same time. Good job, Glueboy Quote
sgx Posted January 22, 2003 Posted January 22, 2003 Dude! Totally wacky and inventive! I love hearing innovative stuff. Nice. Quote
DarkeSword Posted January 22, 2003 Posted January 22, 2003 I loved this piece back in IMC2, and I still love it. Such a unique texture going on here! Nice job. Quote
Bruk Posted January 22, 2003 Posted January 22, 2003 Wow, this is some excellent stuff. Great usage of a little-recognized track to remix. Good work! Quote
DaleNorth Posted January 22, 2003 Posted January 22, 2003 wow this is great. just like Seattle said, total ear candy. good fun. Quote
King Dedede Posted January 22, 2003 Posted January 22, 2003 I really love all the directions that this piece takes throughout its relatively short span . . . you never know what is going to happen next in this mix, unlike most mixes that fall into a predictable groove that doesn't stray too far from the original piece. This ambience kind of reminds me of Radiohead--very enjoyable stuff. Quote
Daikun Posted January 22, 2003 Posted January 22, 2003 Wow. I'm speechless. This song is totally unpredictable and freakishly bizarre. It sounds like a cross between an old German opera (with the Viking lady singing at the top of her lungs), a "ghost house/horror" tune, a bunch of old NES MIDI clips (which kind of sound like the first Zelda game in one of the castle levels), and a slow trance mix all at once...and I LIKE it! Very, very nice job. Quote
ella guro Posted January 23, 2003 Posted January 23, 2003 Thanks a bunch, guys. You have no idea how happy I am right now...considering that this was put together for a contest in a short time span. Djpretzel did say "slapdash", which is true. I could've definitely made some transitions a lot better...but I felt like I just wanted to go crazy and do everything that came to mind with the tune. I just picked out random samples and started remixing. Certainly the most fun thing I've done... And someone mentioned Radiohead - I love 'em! One of the keyboard riffs is similar to part of "Morning Bell"...at least a little anyway. Thanks again, guys Quote
Unipulator Posted January 23, 2003 Posted January 23, 2003 This track is a great combination of why-the-hell not spontaneity, and evenly- and carefully-measured mood. Eccentric, but effortless and talented eccentric, not random eccentric. I enjoyed this almost as much as Frosted Mini-Chex and it left fewer dishes to boot. Great work! Quote
Kamikaze Noodle Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 It's original, clever, hard to describe, and the original song kicked ass to begin with! i like it a lot. I especially love the augmented chord at 0:40 I'm sucha sucker for those things. The way the song moves smoothly brings in new musical ideas without leaving you behind. I'm sorry I make no sense. I'll just stop now. Quote
Prono Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 One of the coolest Tunes in mario World remixed with style. Thank You! It's great. Quote
Nigel Simmons Posted May 11, 2003 Posted May 11, 2003 Man, this is sooo great. It's one of only a couple of remixes I actually come back and listen to once in a while. Outstanding. Quote
ella guro Posted September 1, 2003 Posted September 1, 2003 edit: link no longer works, sorry This is the original .it file, compressed (to 6.86 megs) because it's pretty big and I was really inefficient with the samples. I recommend that you use MODplug tracker (http://www.modplug.com) to open it instead of winamp, because with modplug you can view the actual notes and it plays .it files better anyway. Quote
Vash the Stampede Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 Great stuff man!! Loved this melody originally, and this ReMix is even better!!! Kudos for your great work man!!! Quote
jordex Posted September 5, 2004 Posted September 5, 2004 Awesome stuff, I love the sounds and samples and those triplets in the background Quote
Brand New Retro Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Super remix. Very imaginative, very technical, obscure but extremely listenable, very intelligent. Great work, well done Quote
Serenade Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 I'd just like to say that this remix is great and funny and...confusing. BUT THAT'S A GOOD THING, MR. ADHESIVE. The Forest of Illusion is about to get more hard to crack with this remix! (Also, my favorite sound in this remix is that wondeful and odd screeching noise. Spectacular!" Quote
OceansAndrew Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Very unique and slick take(s) on the theme, though that weird choir patch i could have done without; I guess it lends character to the song. This is a pretty experimental mix; Some sections are spot on, and some really don't gel, IMO. The first rendition of the theme was the best, I thought. SOme of the others get a bit too out there to really strike me as much more than a novelty. Maybe i'm just thinking too conservatively. I didn't think the chiptunes and flute section worked at all. There wasn't any anchor to that section. Maybe with a solid beat and a strong bassline it'd be a different story. Soundwise, I really liked the kick sample used; it fit perfectly with the busy patterns you used. The epiano was also nice. I strongly recommend listening to this one, as there are some really cool ideas, even if a few of them go a bit too far. Quote
MixMasterMario Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Sweet remix you got here! It sounds very spooky, I can just picture Mario riding on Yoshi going into the forest. Yoshi sees all the creepy stuff happening around the forest and clings onto Mario to protect him. Kinda like Scooby Doo clinging onto Shaggy when Scooby Doo gets scared. Quote
Crulex Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 You know, I gotta agree, I'm getting a little bit of a Scooby feeling on this one. Spooky and phunky, great for getting into the spirit of the month. Somewhat bizarre, but pleasing all the same. Quote
Liontamer Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Definitely a very cool piece, and an awesome job making the source tune seem inherently spooky. If I wasn't familiar with Mario World, I would have assumed it was dark to begin with, that's how naturally Liz made everything click. Quote
