linkspast
We might as well begin organizing the first OCR Brawl tournament now. This is good news. ok Count me in....
Arrow
This is a fantastic update. The only thing that would've made it better, IMO, was not seeing that Brawl uses 4x4x4 Friend Codes. I'm starting to wonder what the hell the point of Wii Numbers are if no game (except Prime 3, I suppose) is ever going to make use of them instead of implementing their own DS-like system. Devyn
Maybe because they're network is based off of the system they have with the DS and it is still evolving?
Sir_NutS
well the online system is just as I thought it would be, a total letdown. But it's not something that matters to me anyways, as I'm not into console online gaming anyways. I probably won't even touch the online mode. ...not that I would if I could anyways. Jam Stunna
I'm actually surprised at how excited I am about this. Just yesterday I was bemoaning the idea of online play. But now that it's been announced, I can't wait for it.
MeTc123 RType
Online is Great news............. although it does seem kinda basic. On the site it does say that more online announcements will be made so hopefully a leaderboard or something simular is included.
Airwalker
Am I the only one that did a double take at the title of this update? It was the first thing I read when I woke up, so I rubbed my eyes a little bit to make sure it didn't say something else. Well, it certainly doesn't sound like any Xbox Live, but it's better than nothing. It still means I can play against my friends in Phoenix, Omaha and Sioux Falls who have a Wii and are likely to get Smash Brothers. And perhaps some of you guys. Though, once you taste Xbox Live, it's hard to pull those expectations down.
nookster
hehe same for me. I read it, then said to myself out out loud "it'll probably mean exchaning stickers or something" (to which my girlfriend mumbled wut?) en then scrolled. Wasn't expecting to get something so far above my expectations
BardicKnowledge
We might as well begin organizing the first OCR Brawl tournament now. This is good news. Who else is up for a first-weekend tourney, before any of us really get used to it? Could be a lot of fun...
The Author
That sounds like a plan, but I want to kick it up a notch, make it a nunchuck tourny
dsx100
If there is a tournament, you can count me in. I'll probably lose pretty early on but at least it will be fun to try.

The Author
It could be a point tournament instead of an elimination. Stock matches, the winner gets as many point as he has characters left. Then the first 4 end up in an elimination round, best versus worse, middle versus middle, then we have a final for third and fourth and finally one for first and second. Hopefully people can watch in spectator mode. (as in hopefully there is a spectator mode) Thinking about it, it could be 4 way timed matches... and you get 4, 3, 2 or 1 point depending where you rank. Jam Stunna
We can have all sorts of cool tournaments: pro style, free-for-all, coin, etc. The sky's the limit. EDIT- Once November rolls around, we should just start a Smash tourney thread.
Bigfoot
Wow, and of course on game blogs, people are still whining. "FRIEND CODES ARE SO LAME". Honestly, it's not that bad.. you enter it in once and you're done. Do people honestly want voice chats? From my experience, voice chat can be pretty annoying, especially when people just put music up to the mic. I guess I kind of figured people would complain if it has online play or if it doesn't have online play. People wonder why Nintendo won't allow messages or names to be display while playing against someone random. I guess people don't know that kids do play video games, and I don't think some child's mother would be too happy walking by and see "FUCKYOU420" or something. Same goes with the messages. The Author
Friend Codes = asshole prevention. Which is always a plus. And its not like you cannot play with strangers, they will just remain strangers. Which is a good thing as well.
BardicKnowledge
^^ Agreed -- even though I wouldn't mind seeing the names of the people I'm fighting online.

Bigfoot
BardicKnowledge faces:Cocklick Gokuvegeta666 FairyFlowerTemptress Ah yes, a real added value. My friend and I loved seeing the names of players who played Halo 2 online. POTSMOKER420 XXXHARDCOREXXX 420STUNNA420 I may not be exactly precise with the names, but you get the idea lol. We'd be like "oh snap, it's another player from the 420 clan" haha. People should be going crazy with joy that Brawl even has online in the first place, but oh well.. can't please everyone I guess. Eten
Leaderboards would actually suck. The people would simply try to disconnect to avoid losing. People don't play fair online, we've seen that too often. That is a very simple problem that has been fixed. A disconnect, be through lag or intentional, the remaining person uploads the game to the stat server as a win.
Cecilff2
This is awesome news, now if only Qwest or some other provider would provide DSL access to this part of town, I'd be set.
Devyn
I'm kinda scared to fight some of you on Smash Brothers, because some of you are obviously insane with that game. But when Kart rolls around, I will take no prisoners.
anclunn
All I cared about was playing with friends, so I am now completely satisfied. Ice climbers are back, new play modes are available, nothing looks like it's being lost, just reworked and new stuff added. I can now say with full confidence that this game will rock.
