It's quiet...too quiet.

So the past few days have been pretty quiet overall with regards to the project. Some nice tracks are still available like Chill Penguin, Crystal Snail, Wheel Gator, Wire Sponge, Doppler Stage 1, Magma Dragoon, Grizzly Slash, Izzy Glow, Burn Rooster, Bamboo Pandamonium, Rainy Turtloid, Commander Yammark, and more!

Although if people don't claim more tracks, I don't mind at this point  . We got some good stuff so far for everyone!

hi, i've just been really terrible about this and consequently every other oc remix in the past. i mean, i haven't even listened to the dkc2 album yet either. if i finally get something going bahamut, i'll most likely send it to you when it's finished rather than a wip... i work in bursts and i work until i'm done, so even if it's last minute it'll get finished regardless. i've just been a real a-hole with the process which is probably why friends don't like working with me lol

TheKrow
04-13-2010, 04:09 AM
I've been working on a certain track from Command Mission, but I'm not claiming anything on it until I'm satisfied with the quality... expect a WIP soon.

Woa hey, when did Crystal Snail open up?

If no one claims it before the end of this month I'll almost certainly take it up - wanted to do it before it was claimed earlier!

Can't promise anything, though - too many damn project songs, as it is :banghead:. Wait and see, I guess.

Mirby
04-13-2010, 07:36 PM
You think you have a lot of project songs? Look at sixto. He has six on this one alone! Not to mention the other projects he's on...

pu_freak
04-13-2010, 10:29 PM
Don't make this a contest guys... having too many project songs isn't good, trust me :P

Gario
04-14-2010, 08:02 AM
I trust you, Pu_Freak... besides, I'm not comparing myself to Sixto. Ever.

Yeah, I'll almost certainly work on a track for Crystal Snail, if it doesn't get taken in the next month or so.

Mirby
04-14-2010, 08:38 AM
I wasn't comparing, I was merely giving an example. In fact, when I brought it up to him back in March, this is what he said.

Mar 18 13:37:29 <Mirby> Opening Stage (X1), X-Hunter Stage 1 (X2), Blaze Heatnix, Gate's Laboratory (X6), Bomb Recovery (X7), Vs Lumine ~ The Second Form (X8 )
Mar 18 13:37:34 <Mirby> 6 tracks on that album alone
Mar 18 13:37:40 <Mirby> You gots work to do
Mar 18 13:38:41 <sixtofwar3> what was i thinking
Yeah, it was in IRC.

Bahamut
04-16-2010, 05:56 AM

I did get wind of something quite awesome lately - perhaps a completed track coming my way?

I hope so... the more completed tracks, the sooner this is released, right?

Really, nobody's taken Zero Stage 2 (Cyber Maze Core) from X5 yet?! That's like one of the best songs in the X games! That is my favorite techno song from any video game ever! I'd remix this one myslefs but the only instrument I would be able to do well is the drums

It's actually not the easiest source to work with unless you go for a more straightforward take. It might be incorporated with DJ Symbiotix's track though.

True, it might not be that easy to make a remix of a song that already sounds like a techno remix lol. I just think tht with the right remixer this song has the potential to blow people away.

So I just got a final wav from ansgaros! Absolutely fantastic track by him, you'll all love it!

Now the rest of you need to get in final wavs :-) .

Oh, I also noticed no Command Mission? That game had some pretty epic songs in it :(

Actually, we do have one Command Mission song, I just haven't listed it. The Krow has one in the works, and I have a WIP by him. I'm not familiar with the Command Mission soundtrack unfortunately, although it is fair game. We also have more tracks than is listed even excepting that one!

Mirby
05-01-2010, 06:34 PM
Only 60 tracks are listed; there are more than that. So even though it looks like sixto's doing 10% of the tracks, he's actually doing less, because of the tracks that aren't listed.

General Gilliam
05-02-2010, 01:57 AM
Hmm, I've actually been making a Opening Stage - Zero mix for a bit now, but in order to finish it I need someone who could record a lead and rhythm guitar part for it. I kinda gave up on it a while ago because without a real guitar it sounds shitty.

X7...is mediocre - it wasn't nearly the worst game I've played, but it definitely doesn't stand up to the other X games.

Mirby

No, not by a long shot. But I still have enjoyed what I've played. Not nearly as much as the other X games, Command Mission included, but still.

KyleJCrb

:?:

Play x!
MegaMan X? I'll look for it and give it a shot.

I kind of avoided MegaMan because I got the first game, which came out in 1987, when I was just a tiny lad. I was good at it then. I grew up and tried to play it, and I was horrible at it - couldn't beat a single level. Then I always nodded the MegaMan series off as "that series which I'm not good enough to play". With modern save-state technology, I could probably do it, but it would not be the least bit legit.

Bahamut
05-28-2010, 07:50 AM
Eh, nothing wrong if he hasn't played them - but go check the games out, they're still fun to play today!

Well said, Demonstray. Well said.

Save states = the devil.

And here's hoping I'll get some significant progress out for the next deadline during a move/re-evaluation of all my stuff.

So Sixto dropped 5 of his tracks  - I sort of figured this would happen, he just took on too much for how he's approaching music currently.

Mirby
06-12-2010, 02:07 AM
Well when he said he had 23 project tracks when I interviewed him oh so long ago, I was optimistic... but this was bound to happen. :(

Hopefully someone can pick them off the floor and still do something excellent with them. :D

06-17-2010, 03:59 PM
so, what was left to do on my track? i seem to remember you saying that you want a live guitarist. is there any way i can get around that thought? i kind of wanted this to be shreddage only.

Bahamut
06-17-2010, 05:04 PM
Well I thought it could expand the track really with a mix of the synth & guitar lead.

Edit: Minor update, Jewbei switching his track to Gravity Beetle - looks like we got 3 people doing it ha!

Bahamut
06-29-2010, 06:28 AM
So a bit of an update here - I'm still in need of someone to do the website. If anyone knows anyone who is willing to do this and is on point, have them contact me!

More of an overarching thing - I'm currently preparing in anticipation of enlisting in the military as an officer in the US Air Force. In particular, this can possibly affect things with regards to release timing if everything is not essentially complete beforehand, so this makes it imperative that all the tracks are finished before Oct. 9th. If not, there is a real possibility that the release will be pushed back at least 4 months further, if not even more - this is due to the fact that officer training is a 12 week process of minimal contact with the outside world.

So lets go everyone, work it because we all want to see this release before the year's end!

Hey Bahamut, sorry I never got back to you on the status of the song I was kinda working on, but I decided to drop the project. On another note though, I am currently remixing Zero Stage 2 (Cyber Maze Core) from X5. Not sure if I'll have it done on deadline, so I guess this'll kinda be like if I finish it on time I'll submit it to you, if not, oh well.
Here' a link to the original http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQSDf-V0yDs

This is kinda hard to remix as it's already a techno song, but I'll try my hardest to get a good sounding mix out before the WIP due date.

Wow. My first thought when I realized that the vocals were Mega and Gravity Beetle going against eachother was "Holy crap, Mega's fighting Zeromus!" I blame the track off of the FFIV Album.

Still, epic nonetheless. I would really have liked it more if I could've understood GB a bit more, though, and the end where he gives the sad speech was very hard for me to hear.

And this album looks great! I've been following the FFIX and SD3 albums, so I neglected checking this out sooner. Shame on me, that's unacceptable.

For those who are on the project & for just those generally curious - I am about to make a decision that will possibly affect the release of the album, although I'm going to do everything I can up to that point so that it isn't affected.

Right now I am looking seriously at enlisting in the Army or Marines, with the goal of entering boot camp before the year ends. In particular, there is a real chance that there is a conflict between the final wav dates and being sent off on the start of my military career. I will know in advance as I go through the process of enlistment, so I will keep people updated on that.

The earlier you can finish, the better because of this. If I happen to be gone, Dyne will handle the rest that needs to be done.

I really want to see this ready if possible music-wise before I leave for basic training. Let's make this happen!

The army?!? God damn.

Well, good luck either way, and I agree, even more incentive to GET THOSE TRACKS DONE.

Speaking of which, I can't believe no ones claimed Wheel Gator's Theme from X2. That's like one of the best themes in the game.

Very spiderman-ish sounding. Or was that batman? Either way, would be great if it was all synth. There's also Dr. Cains theme from X3:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csNnPhz3NxA&feature=related

which would be great in a melody of all the minor themes, it being the hook. If I sound kinda pushy, it's only because I've been looking forward to this album for a while now. Huge MMX fan, and the OST's have always been top notch.

It's alright. Triple posts are a necessary evil. It's good to have conversation in a thread but most of the time there's not really a need for it. Until they bring in some kind of project thread updating twitter-style thing that you can do micro-updates with, this is the best way to go. :-) Yeah, this is a filler post pretty much but I thought it'd help in case you needed to post again. So another song for the project is a take on Esperanto from Mega Man Zero 4 by melody! This song is just about ready!

The status of songs listed is somewhat misleading, as many people have assured me that a lot of these songs are almost ready & I just haven't been given WIPs for them. Things are looking very promising for the project, and we will likely be almost finished with everything in October (there may be a few people late for some reasons - DarKsidE55 broke his finger for example, which affects his guitar playing, and I still would like to have his tracks on board for the album).

The artwork and the website are also underway as well.

All in all, we are looking at everything complete by December possibly.

The album will be 4 discs, with a 5th disc as a bonus disc with some goodies. Those on the project curious about a tentative track order can head on over to the project forums. I am still in the process of tweaking the order for what would be best - it is going to take some time though, as I don't have a near complete set of tracks to make final decisions.

Originally I was going to have it be a bonus track, but it fits really nicely in a particular spot on the album, so for the sake of flow I'm putting it in the regular listing.

Just a lurker on this site but:

Growing up in a rural area where the only dial-up provider still had "BBS" in their name, I found a revelation in the local church. That revelation was a copy of Mega Man X that my mom bought as a raffle prize there but was rejected for some churchy reasons. At the time all I saw in the game was an awesome robot shooting even more awesome robots. Something else seemed extraordinary in the game, but I was too young to realize it was the music. Like a violent laser choir, Mega Man X preached a gospel of rock to my heathen ears and shaped my musical tastes for years to come.

Need this need this need this.
Can't wait for this album! That Blizzard Buffalo synth and guitar in the preview is like a new revelation.

You have songs like Noble Creature of Snow, The Leidenfrost Effect, The 4th Coming, Sweeping the Storming Skies...and String Chamellotron. If you REALLY want to keep it, I'll begrudgingly take it with the name, but just know that it still is glaringly ridiculous.

"Bugging" only works in special situations. Leave the project organization to the project staff, Mirby. No offense, but regardless of how bad you want them to do it, that's the appropriate thing to do. :nicework:

Heh I never heard that Duane & BrandO song before for some reason.

As for the tracks - some unexpected things happened to a few people, and there seemed to be an overwhelming feeling of pressure, so I decided to move back when I wanted all the final tracks. I've still been strongly encouraging final wavs whenever people had them almost ready since it helps give a more complete picture for the background stuff before release. It looks like we might be ready for a January release.

Yesterday has been pretty quiet as far as WIPs/wavs go for a supposed final deadline. I have an updated WIP from XSTMusic that's not a midi! (all those on the project go comment on stuff for it in the project forum!) I also got one from Gario this morning

To be fair to everyone though, I did mention about some stuff being an issue (uncontrollable circumstances, such as DarKsidE555 having his finger broken on his guitar playing hand) with several people though that ended up with me delaying when I want the final tracks in by, but everyone knows the expectation this time is that all the wavs need to be in asap. This album will come out before I leave for boot camp, bank it!

We can possibly be seeing 20+ more wavs come in by the end of this month though. Get excited folks, everything is aligning for a sick album!

MMX6 and MMX2 aren't getting enough love

Then again, X6 already has live instruments, so hey. Maybe a trend of applying chiptuneage to games like X6 and beyond that already have live instrumentation is necessary?

It would certainly be interesting. For example, having dem beeps and boops during MMX8's Lumine-Second Form play when the song slows down from its rock part to its more mellow stage. The instrument in the background is....a violin? I can't tell.

It's quite tempting to put together a preview before the 33 wav mark...

So we're at 16 final wavs! Willrock decided that he wanted his GMRB entry in and polished it up enough that he felt that he was done with it, so he gave me a final wav for that.

XSTmusic also provided me with a quick wav of the Title screen music from MMX.

We are pushing quite close to the boundaries of 5 discs, with 4 discs of the regular album and the 5th one for bonus tracks. I'm kinda fearful as to what the listening party will be like when this releases, we might have more than 6 hours of music.

5 discs, holy crap. Which songs are bonus ones?

Gario
10-27-2010, 02:31 AM
I'm sure the tracks that are from the MMZ series are bonus.

Also, I'm not surprised at the size of this thing. I mean really - you make an album dedicated to the ENTIRE MMX SERIES, then allow for repeats. That's just the way it was going to roll out.

I'll just say that we have 13 tracks and counting so far slated for the bonus disc.

Edit: Those who haven't noticed, go vote on the GMRB tracks! http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=31266

I'm very glad that it'll be such an extensive release; the plethora of tracks and arrangements will make me a happy camper. I recently picked up the X Hunters' album, and it just intensified my craving to hear what the OC ReMix community comes up with!

I was a bit disappointed that their album is just short covers, as it seems they got the tools to do more with the music.

Got a WIP from Devastus (courtesy of the GMRB competition going on), and he told me he has an even more updated version. For those who haven't heard it, go check out the GMRB Round 1 X bracket tracks! You'll also get to hear Willrock's too!

Also got a promised wav on the way for Friday, as well as XSTmusic being quite close to finishing.

2 months until the music should be ready for mastering. Get ready, it's going to be a long two months for everyone!

Are those tracks (Devastus' and Will's) the ones they sent for the GMRB?

Now I should listen to the X series' OST, I don't know how the tracks sound, except Gravity Beetle and the whole X5 soundtrack.

(BTW, I hope people liked my unofficial trailer for the OCR MV2.2, haha)

Right; their tracks are well-done for what they are, and I greatly appreciate the fact that a good, metal MMX cover band exists, but it's all very straightforward and over pretty quickly. So I'm really looking forward to hearing them expanded and reinterpreted OCR style, especially if Devastus and WillRock's GMRB tracks are any indication.

I don't mean to come off as a ginormous dick, buuuuut....well....it's not really the entire series.

I mean, some games have much more representation than other games.

Eh, what can I say. MMX1 is incredibly popular.

It is disappointing in a lot of ways, as there are a lot of nice sources in the series not taken like Doppler Stage 1 (X3), Wheel Gator (X2), Wire Sponge (X2), Crystal Snail (X2), X-Hunter Stage 2 (X2)/Gate's Laboratory Stage (X6), Ruins'n Vains (X7), Bomb Recovery (X7), Inferno ~ Descending (X8 ), Booster Forest (X8 ), Volt Catfish (X3), Web Spider (X4), Grizzly Slash (X5), Blaze Heatnix (X6), and Sigma 2 (X6).

It's not like I can take a gun to someone's head and force them to do all desired tracks...or I guess I could and be labeled a psycho

I'm pretty sure that when I looked at the list a while back all of those tracks (Wheel Gator (X2), Wire Sponge (X2), Crystal Snail (X2), X-Hunter Stage 2 (X2)) were claimed. Was I just dreaming?

Crystal Snail was by Theophany & Gate's Laboratory Stage by Sixto - both dropped those tracks.

Wire Sponge (X2)

Oh man, awesome song I forgot about

Although I guess I'm not that saddened about X7 and X8. I mean, the originals were already played using live instrumentals, whereas the SNES games and X4 and X5 didn't. Really, part of it for me is looking forward to old sound hardware brought to life.

But the Maverick Competition has me loving re-arrangements and songs done in different styles.

Not that I didn't before, but, you know, most songs here are from the NES and SNES era.

But, yeah, can't force people to do certain songs. You can pester them to get tracks done, though :)

Just added Gario's and prophetik's GMRB mixes to the count for the album - both did a nice job, which you can download in the zip linked to in this thread: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=31266

There is polishing to be done, so we may not see a final wav immediately, but both are welcome to sub a wav to me whenever they're comfortable with their songs.

I know a triple post is in bad form, but Willrock has a bitching rendition of The Skiver & Infinity Mijinion - you'll all get to hear it when round 2 of the GMRB voting starts!

In other news, got a WIP for BONKERS' Dr. Light medley & for Skummel's Flame Stag - things are looking pretty good here, people are putting in good effort.

For a more general status of things - the end of December is a hard deadline. For those not done by then, their tracks will likely be cut unless they work to get the tracks in asap & are close to done. I want to see this ready for release by late January at worst.

Surprising that NitroFlash has the time to be working on MMX remixes...he's doing the soundtrack for Mega Man X: Corrupted for JKBGames...still, he's an awesome artist :P

Last night we had a quite surprising chat amongst staff - currently there are 5 (!) albums in the queue to be released with more looming in the horizon like this one (I think 4+ albums). I'm hoping we can release in January, although I'm not sure how things are going to shake down. That's a lot of music on the way!

And better news is that I got in my first see at how the artwork is going down today. It looks bold & quite fitting.
