  1. So I guess this is the postmortem, well I don't have much to add, other than some personal observations and feedback. I guess these larger community compos are a great tool for focusing one's energy on a given task. At first I really wasn't too keen on Toxic Seahorse, I 'm still on the fence if the source material is a necessary component of good remixing ( will a track that appeals to you vs one that doesn't yield a better or worse track?), but the name of the game is resilience and improvisation in a timely manner and I'm mostly satisfied with what I pulled out of the source material. I feel that my tracks were underdeveloped, great starts or maybe chucks where I have an idea, but fail to be unified in a cohesive song.....real song composition, a good finished song, not great ideas strapped together. As for the the competition part of the competition, I wish there was a way to marry together the desire to win with the desire to learn production techniques. For me a big block was trying to incorporate suggestions from my teammates into my track...it was hard and (I'm not sure it this is totally accurate) but I feel like if I had the same DAW as my teammate I could have utilized their suggestions better or at least gleaned some production techniques from them, like really sharing ideas, but it felt hard to do that going from FL or Logic to Reason, I still have very little idea how to fully utilize my workstation and having someone who can fill the role of teacher and teammate ( with regards to the tools they use and how work with) to guide me along, while helping bring together the artistic side of music production with the technical part of it and would have really helped me matriculate to a high level of music production. Other than that, I loved toeing it with the heavyweights of OCR, while my teammates cheer me on, those rounds that got me feeling like a Rocky v Apollo I'll be remembering those for a while. I want to thank my team Zero Treble and say way to be on the ball with the voting each week and It was great working with you, let's not lose touch after graduation.....

  2. Yeah, it was fun. I couldn't really pay much attention to it in the last 3 round set sadly because work and other stuff, but I really enjoyed the other weeks. Plenty of awesome tracks and rickrolls.

  3. Zisotto here! Just wanted to thank you both so much for your very thoughtful and kind words. I did this mix about a year ago and to receive such appreciative praise is very encouraging to me. This was actually one of the first remixes I ever did, about 5 or 6 months after I learned my first (and only) DAW, Cubase. I'm really thankful for this community and the staff, fellow remixers, and fans for making it what it is. I haven't really experimented with ambient sounds since this song, and have been trying to develop my own original music and sound which is an infusion of electronica and some other elements which vary from song to song. I remember this song took me over a month to complete, around 60 hours, probably double or triple what I usually spend on a song, because I was meticulously crafting each instrument track, but it was worth it! I'm looking forward to making more vg remixes in addition to my own music, so stay tuned and feel free to follow me on YouTube in the meantime! Thank you again

  4. I can't speak for anyone else, but while it was a very entertaining and creative run where we got to rickroll the rest of you for 9 weeks (high five to my Maverick Astley bros!), I'm also pretty beat and wouldn't mind a break. And a big shout out to Darkesword for again hosting a cool compo Now all that's left is to vote for the last round, wonder how my team did in the rankings and polish up my songs and submit them before I start remixing some other tracks!

  5. Hey Guys! This is my very first post on this website and I'm excited that I found out about it. I've wanted to do arrangements/remixes of the themes from the Metroid Prime trilogy for many years now. Just recently I found the motivation to finally step up and see what I can do with it. This song contains the "Title Theme" from MP1 and I think Other M as well. I had this idea of taking the song and making it darker, more cinematic, and more aggressive with some heavy hitting drums and percussion. I tried to keep in mind the balance of familiarity (the common melody that everyone knows) and the unknown (new interesting ideas), however I've listened to it so many times while mixing that I have lost all perspective and would like to know what you guys think about it. I would really appreciate it if you could provide me with any feedback whatsoever. Hope you like it, -Rory remix - https://soundcloud.com/roryglenn/title-theme?in=roryglenn/sets/tribute-to-metroid-prime original - https://youtu.be/tBq_SueS8oo?t=1s

    Super Mario Maker

you mean kaizo and the game does need any more automatic levels, mario doesnt need cutscenes and the thing is kaizo levels were not bad but the way people try to emulate them is kaizo levels were for the most part very challenging but fair levels that focused around a concept and got progressively more difficult, which was able to happen because it was a progression of levels not just one people just skip the progression and put the stupid stuff in their level so the player will have no idea what to expect but in the actual kaizo game because of the progression, would

  8. That sounds convincing to me! Maybe ask for a mod review later? Other than that, I think this is like 99% done.

  10. Nice stuff! I like the violin as an instrument choice here, it adds something unusual, yet fitting. I'm a sucker for jazz/prog violin! Good adaptation. I'll have to try to give this a closer listen. I did feel like the melody could adapt itself to the chord changes more.

  11. My suggestion is to focus on the concepts and not on the tools. It's great to be familiar with one DAW, and in fact I would recommend to pick one and stick with it for a few years. But concepts should be easy to translate no matter which tools you're using, and if you have a good grasp of the concepts you may switch between tools with ease. If someone gives you feedback on your production, look for information on what causes these issues and what are the general solutions, not the settings you need to use for your particular tools. For example, don't learn how the Maximus (I believe that's FL's Dynamics plugin) work, or use a bunch of presets for it. Rather, read up on how dynamics processing works and you will master them all and easily understand (and find solutions to) the issues in your mix.

  12. Very cool rendition of a classic MSX game song I grew up with (this might have actually been the very first game I owned!). IIRC I actually picked this source for PRC, great to see it posted! I've heard a number of remixes of this source, but never one in this genre. Love me some psytrance, and combined with a cool source track and a dose of nostalgia, what's not to like? Next mission: getting more MSX tracks on OCR!

  13. Yes! Indeed. I actually don't even know what "trance" or "hip hop" (or any of that stuff) even means, so I appreciate your recommendations! I enjoyed listening to each of them. I LOVED the "Psytrance ReMix of Hakan's theme from SSF IV." I also really enjoyed the "EDM medley of Mega Man Battle Network series title themes." Maybe I need to look for "psytrance and EDM" stuff? I don't even know what that means. Perhaps something with a quick and light beat that also highlights a melody? I really enjoyed elements from the others. I loved the initial atmosphere, quick beat, and how the melody was incorporated in "Metal/Drum & Bass ReMix of Pokemon X's 'Legendary Battle' theme." Anyway, thank you so much for the recommendations. I hope other will chime in as well.

  14. It was fun as always. I'm looking forward to the next RMRB as I like all the classic themes way more than the sigma themes. So long, and thanks for all the fish.

  16. Alas. Music will go up tonight, scoring will be updated this week. No bonus 10th round this year. I think people are tuckered out. Thanks for remixing, everyone!

  17. I'm surprised this was looked at as an album project that should be finished "relatively fast.". I have no say on anything, since i'm no one important to OCRemix, but I believe a man who has shaped the VG industry, as much as he did, deserves the patience and dedication towards creating a perfect representation of his career achievements in our industry. I don't think waiting too long will affect the impact of this album. Just the fact that people like myself can see this located on the front page of OCremix shows that we know it's coming, and we are all ever so excited! Regardless if time is extended, I wish the best of luck to all remixers, and I'm hoping this album is as amazing as the legacy that this man left us. Thank you OCRemix for this project, and thanks to "The Damned" for the idea, execution, and bringing together the resources needed to create this.

  18. Oh you write for trumpets in your orchestra pieces? I write for and play my own hand crafted custom brass instruments that I made myself in my brass instruments workshop I built myself in my garage. But your way is fine too, I guess.
