  1. Hometown Heroes Created by Mirby, directed by Brandon Strader and Mirby Welcome back to the Hometown Heroes project, starting up again here in 2016. There are existing claims -- if you are one of these remixers, please check in! The original concept for this album was to remix town themes from obscure games. However, any town theme from a video game will be acceptable, and optionally you can choose to mix in a hero theme into your mix (to use 2 sources for the mix). This is entirely optional, but will help to see the HomeTOWN HEROES concept a little more. It will be interesting to see how people interpret this, especially with heroes being in stylistically diverse towns. Right now we're in a check-in phase, so currently no deadlines or WIP dates. Please check in, and feel free to make a claim. Tracklist Persona 2 Innocent Sin - Sumaru City (claimed by @AMT) Radiant Historia - Mechanical Kingdom (claimed by @Arrow) Phantasy Star IV - Motavia Town, Dezolis Town (claimed by @AngelsDen) Kingdom Hearts II - Twilight Town (claimed by @Tuberz McGee) Tsugunai - Early Afternoon in the Village (claimed by @Ivan Hakštok) Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire - Slateport City (claimed by @Chucklehofft) Illusion of Gaia - Village Theme (claimed by @DjjD) Ys III - Trading Town of Redmont (claimed by @Jorito) Monster Hunter 3 (tri) - Village Theme 1 (day) (claimed by @Amphibious) Castlevania II: Simon's Quest - Town (claimed by @Metal Man) Threads of Fate - Serene Town (claimed by @thatandyguy) Soul Blazer - Lonely Town (claimed by @evktalo) Dragon Slayer 6 - Town (claimed by @Jorito) Important final note, we will be targeting an official OCRA release. As such, the quality bar is a little bit higher than it was in the previous incarnation of the project. If you have finished mixes made for the previous version of the project, please submit them to the panel so they can be evaluated!

  3. Ok, that's fair enough. Unfortunate situation. I know how... shitty... it is to live in unstable housing. I made the mistake of not subscribing to this thread because I guess I'm still getting used to how these forums work, so I didn't get a notification of response, thus the delay. HOWEVER! If you could PM me with the information for a new thread (such as the tracklist, existing claims, etc) That would be great. We can get a new thread going so you won't have to worry about keeping one updated, especially if you don't have access to it, and you will be able to focus on more important things IRL. Step 1 will be putting up the new thread, step 2 will be seeing where the involved remixers are... then I guess things will go from there

  5. Hello everyone! I am back to help contribute to the community, and the next new album project I previously was getting together was for Secret of Mana. After a couple of years of mostly absence, I return to finish this good work up! This was started originally with the aim of getting it out in time for the 20th anniversary of Secret of Mana, but it came and went, and real life kept me too busy. 6. First of all, sorry if it is the wrong place to post. I know there's Bahamut's post in R&C but it is rarely updated. Mods, feel free to delete this if it doesn't belong here. I wanted to see what could be done with the various projects. And since anyone can direct a project, I think it's for the best if everyone can talk about it, suggest solutions, and even step up to help. It'd be a shame to have some cool music not released anytime soon because of minor issues. This is also the place to find possible music claims if you want to help a project. So yeah, help an existing project end before starting too many new ones! Please note my analysis is only based on public projects, official projects (not unofficial ones in R&C) and on what I know -- I will not spoil or say anything related to private projects or other stuff I may know. Here we go! ACTIVE/RECRUITING CastleMania -- Started a few days ago after Shariq proposed the idea à la Super Cartography Bros. Should be an OCRI album as SCB. Still in recruitment, go and claim tracks here. Final Fantasy VIII -- Started this year. Still recruiting. Brandon will most likely finish FF3 before working full force on this one. Secret of Mana -- Restarted in February 2016. Bahamut will probably work hard on this one. Some tracks remain to be claimed, so go ahead! Paper Mario -- Started a few years ago (around 2011-2012 IIRC). RECKENEFIN wants to complete it, the album recently got official. Some tracks remain to be claimed -- a co-drector/assistant may be welcome as well. Hometown Heroes -- Restarted in March 2016. Aiming for OCRA quality. Recruiting. 25 Years of Fire Emblem -- Started last year, and recently got its official status (congrats!). A smaller tracklist, with almost-finished tracks and advanced WiPs. I don't think it will be released anytime soon this year (maybe mid/end of next year) as it's still looking for more people (remixers, artists, etc.) Hopefully its official status will contribute to its development! Final Fantasy III -- Started in 2013. Quite active, Brandon really pushes to get this one completed. I'd say it's halfway through its development, but Brandon handles things quite well. It could be released by the end of next year or early 2018 if everything goes well. Super Mario RPG: Window of the Stars -- Started in 2013. Close to completion (lots of finished tracks), as the final deadline (Feb 16, 2016) was reached recently. Art seems to be done (or at least started). A few tracks seem to be still open for claims. ToN isn't very active, but DaMonz (project assistant) is, so your best bet is to contact him about it. Pretty sure this one can be completed and released by next year without too much trouble if the staff gets a little more active. Lawn Party! Plants vs. Zombies -- Started in 2014. Most of the album is close to completion, and Timaeus seems to be quite active about it. Art will be needed in the future. This one can be completed this year (next deadline in April). Final Fantasy V: The Fabled Warriors -- Started in 2010. Volume II (Water) is done according to Shariq. Production for Volume III (Fire) will mostly start soon-ish. Shariq will handle the rest of the production (and I trust him not to wait until 2020 to release Fire lol). Lufia II: Of Gods and Men -- Started in 2010 (v2?). Apparently, half of it is done, and Wesley recently said he would finish it this year after a long absence. I trust the man, this one could be out by the end of the year or in early 2017. LIMBO/INACTIVE Dragon Warrior / Children of Erdrick -- Started in 2009 (6-7 years ago already -- I had the time to produce the whole VV trilogy by that time lol). No public update for almost two years, despite the will to start it again. Apparently there are already some finished tracks plus a few claims. As it seems the project staff doesn't seem to be active (at least in a public way), it'd be interesting to see someone either take back the reins actively to complete all the music (as Kyle suggested) or simply release a short EP/OCRI album with the finished music. VROOM: The Best of SEGA Racing -- Started in 2013. Last year, Stevo proposed to release it as a smaller OCRI EP, and that's a perfect suggestion, as there is enough music (and almost finished music) to create something very cool. I don't know how this went this last year. Art is probably a priority for this project now, so step up if you are interested or know someone would could be interested. It shouldn't be too hard to complete that one, and the concept is too excellent to let it go. Tim Follin: Dirge of the Follin -- Started in 2007 (10th anniversary next year lol? -- It started before I registered I think xD). No real update for quite some time, except comments from Brandon about the project's age. I don't know what Larry intends to do with this project, but releasing a smaller OCRI album would be the easier solution. Stuff like art will probably be needed in the future. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time -- Started in 2012. On hold. As djp said in the last post, the project staff was "more of less okay" on the fact it could be revived under new management. The project is currently in development hell, with no one to direct it. Except if Emunator or Theophany come back, I'd suggest someone (with the project and OCR staff's agreement) takes this project's management. OoT is a BIG name in the VG community, and the line-up so far is quite excellent -- it'd be a shame to see this one die due to inactivity. A lot of work awaits the person(s) who will tackle this one. FINISHED/RELEASED/SOON-TO-BE OUT BadAss: Volume III -- The album will be released soon (if you trust djp's cryptic post in the Project thread -- but maybe he's lying because he's badass and evil? ;)). Chronology: a Jazz Tribute to Chrono Trigger -- Almost complete. Based on what I saw in some MagFest video, it should be released soon-ish this year. Seiken Densentsu III -- Started in 2008. Apparently, Meteo Xavier and the staff have reached a consensus on the end of its production so it should be out this year if everything goes well. TL;DR: Google Sheet

  7. I like the non-RPG and hero theme expansiveness. @Brandon Strader, I took my Legend of Dragoon track to Ivan's PSX album while this project was in limbo, but I also had a WIP of this Soul Blazer town theme and I'd like to keep working on that instead. I have some other ideas (and existing WIPs that might fit) as well but best finish some tracks first!

  8. Okay, I'll bite. Sign me up for Mountains. I expect to do an orchestral/rock hybrid, it's screaming for some dark guitar chugging!

  9. Edited to include Hometown Heroes and clean-up.

  10. Well... we could also try this collab-on-some-orchestra/cinematic-stuff idea But yeah, I have a current project load too that I need to clear first (like 4 of 'em).

  11. Nice to see it back! Maybe I'll claim something once I'm done with my current load of projects (something more obscure like from a Digimon RPG game).

  12. Good to see this project making a comeback, the concept is so cool that it deserves it I like the idea of an optional hero theme incorporated in it. Checking in. I have one track good to go and already submitted to the panel, and another one 80%-ish done. Both tracks are in the project forums too, C&C appreciated. The second track (from Ys 3) has another track from Ys 3 mixed in, but it's not a hero track. Hope it's not a problem.

  14. I dropped "I Closed My Eyes" and "A Conclusion" I believe it was because I knew someone else would be able to claim them and deliver on them good before I could.. I was going to focus on Lufia 2 and get those songs done first! But if there's anything left that appeals to me here when I'm able to tackle one, I will be back on board! I'm excited to see what Dan does with "I Closed My Eyes"

  15. If you feel like it, we can also collab again to ease the pain

  16. @evktalo: shooting for six 2 month check-ins currently, dates haven't been formalized yet, but expect them sometime next week. @Odai: We had an artist on the project already, but I think we may need another since this is a Square game (which means we need lots of custom artwork).

  18. Well there's still the forum, and I do still want to help of course, but yeah. All the info is still in the OP of the original Progress and Deadlines thread there.

  19. Just marked you guys down for Danger and @Sagnewshreds for Flight Into the Unknown

  20. Yo dude I would be super down to collab on a prog metal version of Danger! Not sure if you're trying to do that. Danger is the first track that comes to my mind when it comes to stuff from SoM that I would want to do . I believe you already heard my stuff because you hooked me up with some feedback on my thrash metal FF6 remix in the workshop section (which I still have to respond to...haven't had a ton of time in the past week!) With that said, if anyone wants a collaborator I'd love to work with someone on a remix! I can lay down guitar tracks/solos and help with arranging, but mixing/production is not my strong suit. I'd loooove to claim Flight of the Unknown if that's cool. I don't have any posted remixes, but I'm doing stuff for the FF3, FF8 albums and others as well(I probably wouldn't be able to get a solid WIP together until I make more progress on those in the next month or two though). I'd also definitely be open to collaborating on it with people. Have a few ideas for an arrangement. You can check out the stuff I did for DoD or just click the Soundcloud link in my sig to hear my other remixes. I'm pretty new to the scene so the mixing in my 2015 entries isn't so great, but I think my most recent FF6 DoD entry sounds pretty good. If I can't claim any tracks then I'd love to collab on someone else's.

  21. If you are currently at a conservatory that's great because you'll have access to the people you need for free (don't even offer to pay them, it sounds cruel but everyone should be jumping to have as many experiences as possible. If they try to ask for money ditch them immediately and go with someone else) First off, take your arrangement to your theory teacher, orchestra director, or a teacher with professional composing experience. They were all trained in proper orchestration and will give you some ideas on how to fill out your arrangement with instruments that fit what you are trying to accomplish. Conservatory pianos can vary a lot in tuning. Where I went we only kept the grand on stage in any sort of performance or recording ready tuning, the class room grands were the next option which weren't tuned as quite as often, then we had the practice room pianos which were (ALLEGEDLY)tuned once a year (though that was debatable) and were usually way off since they received the most play. If you are going to do something like this with live players it would help a lot to get everyone to tune to the same piano you used before recording their parts, or see if you can get everyone together to use the stage and its grand when it's open. The latter would be the preferred option if you can get everyone together at once for a large block of recording time. If everyone knows there parts well enough you could even ask the recording students to volunteer and help mic and record the hall and get it all done in one go. Keep in mind that before you take this step your arrangement must be a complete idea and the players must know their parts otherwise you are just going to annoy the people who spent considerable amounts of time setting everything up for you. Two things you could do to help the players would be to use your DAW and come up with a transcription of what you want that you could play for them. you could also replace (temporarily) the hand percussion track with samples if you have access to them and give that to your players to record against. Really, just about anything to get them to focus and play with each other(and have it sound that way on tape) at this point would be good because the wip is all over the place performance wise. Arrangement wise, outside of it being a minute long with an abrupt ending, there is no bass part. sooo that would be the first issue to fix then go from there. Hope this helps!

  25. Not all projects will be finished... A small few could be abandoned. Honestly I'd like to see some fresh big projects started instead of stringing along old dead ones. But if there's potential to release some of the old ones that'd be good if the music aged well. What I'd personally like to see -- more albums that start with a small tracklist (maybe 5 required songs) but allow people to claim other things based on their interest in other sources. This would keep albums from getting too large, and make sure if someone claims something it's because they put in the effort or were familiar with it to know what it was. I'd like to see a Star Ocean album done this way (small, but covering all the games) A NieR album, RPG Themes album (main themes from RPGs) Indie album (covering great songs from games like Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Transistor, etc) I think this is a thing that should be done, and trying to save older projects isn't a justifiable reason to not do new stuff like this.. not to say we should outright abandon them all, but those involved should do their part to finish off the existing ones.. For example I still need to send Level99 a finished WAV for my Vroom track and I intend to do that.

  26. Gilgamesh wields a weapon in each hand. Guitars are known as axes. Axes are weapons. Therefore Gilgamesh will be wielding a guitar in each of his 8 arms. Simple.

  27. Humble beginnings of a individual that loves video game music. Age has been kind to this mix as it isn't too jarring to listen to, nor is far from perfect. It definitely brings the funk but the flute (I'm assuming it's a flute) is a bit too loud that it oversteps the beats in the background. Other than that, it's a good head-bobbing song that will cause people to think you're weird for bobbing one's head. Somewhat cover-ish but it still does its own thing that it compliments the original source. Two things I find a bit weird (but not really due to the possibility of no one thinking of it before), no one has thought to remix this track (the source) ever since this was posted almost 14 years ago. Nor has the main man, DJP revisited this track after improving his craft. Just an observation I had after listening to this, that's all.
