  4. I hope to have a bonus mix ready by the deadline, but I've got a lot going on this weekend, and progress has been slow. But I am curious to see if anyone takes any of the audio from Zelda CDI; you can mangle any audio nowadays and make it pretty much whatever you want.

  6. I didn't make this with the intention of actually submitting, so admins/moderators please feel free to move this if need be. I just figured it didn't belong in the "Original Compositions" forum since it is definitely a VGM arrangement. Anyways, I arranged this for my wife's Final Fantasy XIV character. I'm not going to go into specifics, as I'd rather you just listen and make your own conclusions, so here it is! Thank you very much for listening. And here's the original:

  8. I know the feeling. I spoke with Level99 at the DoD party, and briefly encountered Rama and Starla as they were leaving, but that's about it. I'm really bummed I missed seeing DetectiveTuesday playing with the OneUps (although I happened to catch part of the soundcheck earlier in the day by pure luck) and missed every single time DrumUltimA performed (like, how is that even possible? he played like 16 thousand shows with different people!). Price you pay for staffing at MAGFest I guess. In better news, the DoD listening party/panel and web stream went smoother than it ever has, and each and every MAG Underground performance is up on youtube, so I guess my work paid off.

  11. Hello! I'm Noaxzl. I've been following OCRemix for a while now, but I don't think I really joined the community. I've been a musician for a while now, but I never really had the courage to join because I didn't think I was as good as the music I've been listening to for years. It was actually the latest OCRemix panel at MAGFest that convinced me to finally post on the forums. More specifically, talking to Joe Zieja after the panel convinced me to post some of my work to the forum (I was the guy in the Fox McCloud costume). Especially after hearing that Soundcloud is about to go kaput, which is where I've kept my music portfolio for a while. And just to prove that I was the guy that Joe Zieja talked to: http://imgur.com/roFAg3f I'll post my individual pieces to the forum at some point tomorrow. Until then, feel free to browse my soundcloud while it's still online. A lot of it is original music, but I've also made a couple remixes in there. My favorite is the Pokemon Black/White Gym Leader "remix" that I made several years ago. Alas, I haven't had any time to write any music since working an IT support tech job and going back to school for a degree that can actually get me a job this time, so I'm incredibly rusty now. That said, I plan to start writing and playing music again this year. Hopefully, I'll be able to create stuff that's up to OCRemix standards. I look forward to being part of this community! -Noaxzl [EDIT: Just realized that I actually made a post in this topic around five years ago. WHOOPSEEDOODLE!]

  12. Regarding the Killer Instinct guitar: there is a Kontakt instrument of it out there, however it sounds really bad as it's missing a lot of the articulations/timbre changes (eg. with changing velocities, modulating etc.) that come with the TS-10's synth engine. Doesn't even sound remotely like the original - with SNES stuff it's different because the instruments are all built with (usually) one single sample. With the DKC guitar, it sounds that 'harsh' by default in general. It will help when actually writing to add slight volume automation fades with each sustained note, use of pitch bends and a delay to emulate how it originally sounds in the DKC soundtrack... hope that helps. It does look like Gangplank Galleon is in the works by BlueTronic; the FLP for that is in the Dropbox folder if you want to take a look.

  13. Hey, this forum is for posting any VGM arrangements/covers that you're working on, not just those that you intend to submit. If you're curious, this forums ALSO assists people intending to submit by giving them the option to have the track evaluated by staff that is designed to provide a pseudo-judgment (mod review / evaluation), so you have an idea of what the judges will say. Long story short, your track is exactly where it should be on the forum. Very solid orchestral arrangement, by the way. I enjoy the sparse yet somber arrangement of the track. Very classy, really solid listen. Thanks for sharing.

  14. A lot of the original sources for the samples are in this thread (mostly from old Korg and Roland modules): http://www.dkc-atlas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=2230 Updated versions of the DKC soundfonts are in the Dropbox link here by Bluetronic and they're a LOT better than the old ones: http://www.dkc-atlas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=1993&start=50#p40830 Hope that helps!

  15. Nice, nice, will vote in a sec. By the bye, I'm really uncertain if I've got the energy or time to implement the ALL of the changes that Bundeslang has opted for in PRC - I might let people submit stuff to me via PM, but I'd prefer to use ThaSauce cuz frankly I'm rather fond of compothasauce's system T_T edit - Voted

  16. I'm looking for some help in populating a Google Calendar with notable video game anniversaries for games that have remixes here on OC ReMix. This calendar is meant to be used in conjunction with zapier (an automation tool) that will help us automatically promote game pages on OCR's Discord server and possibly our social media accounts. Right now OCR doesn't track release dates of games in its database, so I can't ask djpretzel for that data. I need folks to help find release date data and create events on the Calendar in a specific format. I'd prefer to use release dates from the country of origin, so Japanese release dates for games from Japan, North American release dates for many western games, etc. To participate, you need a Google account (i.e. gmail address). The event should be created with a start time of 12:00PM on the day of the anniversary. Multiple events on the same day should be spaced by 15 minutes. The title of the event should be Nth Anniversary of Game. The description of the event should be a link to the game's page on OC ReMix. Here's a sample event. I think we can focus on 5x Year Anniversaries for now. Let me know if you'd like to help out and I'll give you access.

    Automation

Pretty much what @Skrypnyk said. Automation is a convenient way to turn knobs and move sliders in a pre-programmed fashion. The great thing about automation is that you can pull off tricks you can't do in a real studio (unless you had like 5 people working your mixer at the same time), making production on a DAW that much more powerful. For instance... You could automate the EQ bands in an EQ plugin so that the mids are scooped for a certain section of your song with particularly thick textures, but only for that section, for your chosen instrument(s). You could extend the range of LFOs (a tool that basically wiggles a knob or slider back and forth at a certain rate and slope) within a synth. Some (most?) synths have a limit to how slow the LFO can be. Sometimes you may want to assign an LFO but make it last like 20 seconds for half a cycle. Well, with automation, you could just construct an envelope that imitates a really slow LFO, in your DAW, by assigning the automation to the parameter of your choice in the synth. You could gate your sounds manually, if you don't have an algorithmic way of doing it (simply automate the mixer track slider down to 0 and back up to how it was). All of the above at once? and so on. This video may be a good exposure to production talk: The blue, purple, and yellow playlist elements are examples of automation clips.

  19. Magfest was a pretty unreal experience for me. Thank you to everyone who came to see me perform! I'm only bummed that I didn't get to spend more time hanging with friends--especially the OCR crowd (I had to miss BOTH PANELS! UGH). I guess there's always next year! (or maglabs/classic or anything else)

  20. The MAGFest schedule has gone live in the Guidebook app for iOS. The app is obviously on Android too, but some of my old buddies in the Metroid Metal community mentioned last night that something is buggy about the schedule on that side, as an advance warning. I imagine it will be fixed pretty soon. OP post has been updated with the OCR panel names and times. If anything else happens event-wise (like, say, a last minute OCU Spring Break dance party in someone's room or something), I'll continue to edit the post as necessary. Nine days to go! GET HYPE

    How to use Prefixes

When posting a new topic, ou can choose one of the four preset prefixes. The default prefix is 1. work-in-progress. As you get feedback and develop your track, change the prefix accordingly to indicate the status of your track. This helps the evaluation team keep tabs on your track. Here are the prefixes and what they mean: work-in-progress Your track is a work-in-progress and you need feedback from the community. This is the default prefix. ready for review Change your prefix to this when you want a workshop evaluator to give your track an official look. Once they provide you with feedback, they'll change your track back to 1. work-in-progress. completed Change your prefix to this when you feel you're done with your track. submitted Change your prefix to this once you have submitted your completed track to the Judges Panel. As you can see we've numbered the prefixes to help you iterate through the process, but if you want to jump ahead and just post a completed track that doesn't require review, you can do that with the appropriate prefix as well.

  23. OCR workouts will be when we can fit them in, but ill for sure make announcements in the discord meetups channel. Be prepared for Nandos-fueled GAINZ. THere isn't an official OCU concert, but I just reached out to MAG staff to see if I can sneak in a Jamspace DJ set, i'll keep things updated here. It'd be cool to have our own secret show. Panels TBD, but it will involve me bench pressing @Nabeel Ansari, so please look forward to it!

  26. OC ReMix presents Heart of a Gamer: A Tribute to Satoru Iwata December 6, 2015 Contact: press@ocremix.org FAIRFAX, VA..."On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer." -- Satoru Iwata (1959-2015) On what would have been Satoru Iwata's 56th birthday, OverClocked ReMix pays tribute to the late game developer and president & CEO of Nintendo with the community's latest album, Heart of a Gamer: A Tribute to Satoru Iwata. Iwata was a gigantic figure in the world of video games whose loss was felt throughout the gaming community and around the world on July 11th of this year. Heart of a Gamer features six tracks from eight artists arranging themes from eight soundtracks of games developed or contributed to by Satoru Iwata, a man whose life work was making the world a better & brighter place through video games. Organized by director Gerry "The Damned" Wheatley, and featuring artwork of Iwata surrounded by characters of games he worked on by Davy "Odai" Owen, Heart of a Gamer is available for free download at http://ocremix.org/info/Heart_of_a_Gamer:_A_Tribute_to_Satoru_Iwata. This album was produced to help promote video game music, was made by fans, for fans, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo or HAL Laboratory; all original compositions, characters, and logos are copyright their respective owners. The album's selection of games from Satoru Iwata's career includes: Super Smash Bros. Melee & Brawl Kirby's Adventure Rollerball Nintendo Land & Balloon Fight EarthBound; and Pokémon Gold Version. "Whether in front of a computer monitor or a boardroom of investors, Iwata's love of games were what came first," observed director Gerry Wheatley. "His devotion to his company was never truer when, in financial trouble, he took a pay cut to make sure his employees were safe. When his colleagues were in need, he lent his time and skill to save their games. He wasn't just another name in the credits. He was truly part of the team." Heart of a Gamer marks Gerry Wheatley's second directorial effort for OC ReMix. His first directed album in 2011, Pokémon: The Missingno Tracks, also honored a game franchise critically influenced and assisted by Satoru Iwata.
