  1. I've heard of the MnP compos, but as I have little music making experience, I never paid attention to them. When I saw the source, though, I was intrigued, and after I looked over the rules I thought, "I might actually be able to pull this off!" After some experimenting, I made... something. I'm now happy to say I have my very first ReMix under my belt! Submitted!

  3. What video is this on? EDIT: nevermind, found it. Luxray214's had his comments hidden on the OCR channel now. You won't see him posting this nonsense.

  4. Lmao oh man this is gold. I wonder if this is his approach to dating too? "I tell ya what: I'll stop stalking you if you go out with me. We got a deal, or what?"

  5. Compo: MnP (Meat 'n Potatoes) Round 75: Super Smash Bros Brawl - Bramble Blast Midi: http://compo.thasauce.net/files/materials/MnP75_BrambleBlastSSBBv3.mid Youtube: While this rendition is more lively than its original counterpart from Donkey Kong Country, I love the mood this gives off. I've got great memories of this playing in the background while going through Subspace Emissary. Except for those big-lipped plant things that grapple on to you and were a pain to knock off. -Zorrakh Deadline: June 25 Sun @ 1 PM Vote Ends: June 27 Tues @ 11 PM Submit your remix Here when completed. MnP ARCHIVE - made by Trism MISSION STATEMENT The goal of Compo:MnP is to promote that "meat and potatoes" conservative approach to remixing: this includes the mood and composition of source tunes. It is up to the remixer to create their own personalization, or to simply give it a sound upgrade. Moreover, the compo is a great opportunity to hone your remixing skills and give video game music the respect that is due. SOME reinterpretation is recommended, but not required. MnP Instructions/Guidelines Covers and Sound Upgrades are permitted. Most or all of the source notes must be present (but not necessarily in the exact same order), secondly the mood (energy, pacing, feelings being conveyed etc) should also be retained. For example, a source tune that is fast-paced and energetic that's remixed into a mellow/chill-out theme would be a hard sell. If you decide to do a genre swap (i.e. symphonic to techno), make sure that the conditions of #2 are met. Submissions must be at a maximum of 20mb (keeping in step with ThaSauce's file size max). Only 1 entry per participant. Previous winner cannot participate but can submit a BONUS entry. Please don't make any comments about people's entries - including your own - until the Voting process is concluded. BONUS entries are exempt of this rule. All competitors and voters must adhere to the rules stated within: Competition Code and Conduct MISC/TIPS - When picking a source tune, make sure it has a MIDI to make ppl's lives easier. - In-game sound FX are permitted, so long as they don't comprise the whole track (i.e. replacing entire MIDI tracks with just sfx)

  6. Take this advice with a grain of salt, as I am using a mono speaker due to not having the proper listening equipment with me right now. But I can say these things: I can actually hear what the lead is supposed to be, but it's only because I know what the melody is supposed to be. The key to writing particularly atmospheric drum & bass is control over your reverb. Try lowering the wet mix in the reverb a bit on your lead and surrounding arps, and raising the low cut within the reverb plugin for both as well (to above 200 Hz). That should clean up some of the mud caused by reverberating low frequencies. I agree with APZX that the drums don't have enough impact. The kick lacks some low end punch, but the snare is not that bad (tonally I think it works). You could probably add some waveshaping on the kick to help that, and boost the snare near 240 Hz to increase its punch. I've written a track similar in style, perhaps, and it may help you to reference it for mixing the kick drum and snare. When I first listened to this, I did feel the treble was too present; even though the speaker I'm using is not for mixing at all, my ears always tighten whenever there is too much treble. And I know this is long, but if you get 2-3 hours of free time, it would really help you to watch this, in order to improve your production in general:

  7. There was someone in one of my classes who was a complete nerd (obviously accepted). But he came into class one day with poke ball headphones (which he said were a bit small). And then he pulled out some pokemon sun and moon Z crystal or whatever bracelet thing. And he was like, "Yeah and it cuts off the circulation." I do not think he realized that when he bought that stuff from Toys R Us, most 19 year olds don't buy that kind of stuff. Because they're made for kids. And he's 19. Shopping in Toys R Us. But he came into class acting like he was all rad because bought this stuff. :/ That's what this situation reminded me of anyways. Kinda sad to see.

  8. In all seriousness: I do honestly think that this person has mental health issues; likely OCD or some sort of anti-social problem, which I'd advise seeking professional help for if you are not currently doing so and are reading this. Creating multiple accounts, outright cyberstalking people (harassment) for months, and only willing to stop if you get what you want from them, which in this case is an extremely arbitrary, insignificant thing — is not normal or acceptable behavior.

  9. @HoboKa Not sure why you submitted yours as a bonus mix. Anyway it's nice to see some good representation this round. I wonder if anyone else is working on something for this?

  10. @HoboKa Not sure if you ever got a MIDI keyboard yet, but if not, that'd be something to look forward to.

  11. Maybe just drop some subtle hints like, "you've been riding my ass for months, fuck off, my uncle's a lawyer and my bro's a hacker, we'll find your address and sue the shit out of you, you fucking, creepy, stalker fuck." You might need to make it more obvious, though. I've been told I'm kind of laid back with this sort of thing.

  12. BIG NEWS! The mastered tracks are finished and have been delivered to Ocremix staff! Now the staff, who as we've seen with this week's release of the 62nd OCR project album are extremely efficient about releases and have it down to a science by now, have all the finished and mastered audio! At this moment I'm unsure if we still lack enough artwork, but I don't think that should be a huge hurdle to complete. Any other hurdles from here should be minor. I know I've said that before, but now that the top brass has the full mastered content, it's extraordinarily unlikely anything should mess it up now. Thank you for your patience and hanging on with us (or at least restraining yourselves from REALLY dramatic acting out on it). We hit a MAJOR finish line FINALLY and things should go quite good from here to release. Look forward to it! It may come up sooner than you think (a first for this project!)

  15. I read through the Judge's decisions, gave a listen to your track, and the original. So, I feel the track still needs some work on the mix. Now, let me be clear I do really like this track. Lively and lots of energy. But you really should take a step back and try and listen to this from the perspective of a listener that isn't you. For me, I find the mix too bright, the drums lack impact, and there just isn't a lot of depth to the mix as a whole. Take a step back and really objectively analyze your mix. I really don't what kind of advice to offer for this because it really is one of those situations where you have to see before you can offer advice. In general I'd try toning down the highs a bit (2-3dB) and try to work the 300-1000Hz range a bit more to give the track some more body. Past that I don't know where to start. Try this though. Pick 3-4 instruments that you want to be your focal point in your track and mix those together and then add the others as support around those. That may help you finding a clear direction on how to approach the mix as a whole. Just my thoughts.

    Today's "Pro Tip"

Remembering the things I did the last time to make my mix sound better. Something doesn't sound right, what can I do? Then it hits me. Do the thing that always works again, because I forgot to do it for the millionth time. Example: This mix sounds very noisy and there isn't much acoustic free space. Why is this? Nothing I do seems to be working! Right. I need to EQ to reduce my mids. And suddenly it fixed everything. Repeat this for basically every mix I do ever.

  18. Just do a MIDI rip and send that. In the past (5 years ago or something like that) I also had someone who mailed me a couple of times to ask me to remix some tunes, but he wasn't going so far and he only send a few mails. Also had some people (woman) who wanted to marry me because they liked a remix I did in 2008 so much...LOL.
