  1. OC ReMix presents Secret of Mana: Resonance of the Pure Land! December 4, 2017 Contact: press@ocremix.org FAIRFAX, VA... December is Mana month as OverClocked ReMix closes out 2017! OverClocked ReMix today released its 65th free community arrangement album, Secret of Mana: Resonance of the Pure Land. Featuring 31 tracks from 39 artists, Resonance of the Pure Land pays tribute to the classic 16-bit Square RPG Secret of Mana, and is co-directed by Dutch musician Jorrith "Jorito" Schaap & Canadian community member Mike "The Nikanoru" Postans. The album is available for free download at http://mana.ocremix.org. Resonance of the Pure Land assembles a global lineup of musicians all honoring Hiroki Kikuta's transporting SNES music in a variety of styles, including jazz, ambient, chiptune, rap, funk, metal, and more. Resonance of the Pure Land was made by fans, for fans, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Square Enix; all original compositions are copyright their respective owners. "I did play and beat Secret of Mana, and I still have 'Fond Memories' of the game and its music. Especially the calm, sad songs and the whale sounds are still imprinted in my mind, and instantly bring back memories of good times and bouts of nostalgia," recalled album director Jorrith Schaap. "Big kudos to the artists who really stepped up their game and created these very diverse and creative but still very recognizable interpretations of the world and sounds of the Secret of Mana, and also to Tabby, who really caught the essence of Mana in her beautiful artwork. I'm sure you'll enjoy listening to it just as much as we enjoyed creating it!" The album's artwork was designed by American artist Tabitha "Tabby" Ramsey, who channeled the late Hirō Isono's serene "emerald forest" illustrations into her own take on the world of Secret of Mana. "All the remixers have brought their own resonance to this project, often taking their remixes in completely different directions than I expected -- I think this gives the album a distinctly unique flavor that still reflects the themes and values in the game itself" remarked album co-director Mike Postans. "I hope you will enjoy this album and hope it becomes as much as classic for you, the listener, as the Secret of Mana itself." Resonance of the Pure Land also sets the stage for the impending release of OC ReMix's 66th community album, this time honoring Secret of Mana's 1995 sequel Seiken Densetsu 3. The three-disc Seiken Densetsu 3: Songs of Light and Darkness will conclude the website's celebratory Mana month, in anticipation of Secret of Mana's 3D remake scheduled for February 2018. 2. I'm coming up for air again. Absolutely the last update: the album is 100% ready as of mid-November. It came a bit too late to squeeze a release last month, but for a good reason. A track presented as finished was apparently not, and without going into detail (it'll be explained in the release notes), the artists, instead of the expected mastering polish, decided to overhaul! Very much appreciated, because it's slated as the opening track, and it's a good idea to start an album with FIRE. In that interim, as you can tell by our last album trailer (I hope), I was pretty much buried in my own work. It's in the hands of staff now for final release prep, so it can't be too long after the Mana release gets its shine.

  3. Preview Secret of Mana: Resonance of the Pure Land: http://youtu.be/DYlf2HK-Vt4 Download Secret of Mana: Resonance of the Pure Land: http://mana.ocremix.org Torrent: http://bt.ocremix.org/torrents/Secret_of_Mana_-_Resonance_of_the_Pure_Land.torrent Welcome to the Secret of Mana album, a project that was started way back in 2011. Kicking life back into a project that has lain dormant for so long normally isn't easy, but when you're talking about a game that is as beloved as Secret of Mana, magic definitely can happen! Growing up, I never owned a Super Nintendo, but that didn't stop me from playing and enjoying a lot of SNES RPGs. Of course, I did play and beat Secret of Mana, and I still have "Fond Memories" of the game and its music. Especially the calm, sad songs and the whale sounds are still imprinted in my mind, and instantly bring back memories of good times and bouts of nostalgia. Even though the album restart had its fair share of hiccups/problems, I can't help but be incredibly proud of how it all turned out. Big kudos to the artists who really stepped up their game and created these very diverse and creative but still very recognizable interpretations of the world and sounds of the Secret of Mana, and also to Tabby, who really caught the essence of Mana in her beautiful artwork. I'm sure you'll enjoy listening to it just as much as we enjoyed creating it! - Jorrith Schaap (Jorito) The Secret of Mana has always had a special place in my heart -- one of my favorite games of all time. This was one of the first RPGs I ever completed and I've played through this game many, many times since then. The soundtrack for this game has always made me think of the beauty and diversity of nature and the careful balance that maintains them. To me, each track conveys an aspect of this world of Mana and since the center of nature in this world is the Mana Tree, it only made sense that the theme of our album would revolve around the sounds you might hear in the forest surrounding this world-supporting tree -- the Resonance of the Pure Land. All the remixers have brought their own resonance to this project, often taking their remixes in completely different directions than I expected -- I think this gives the album a distinctly unique flavor that still reflects the themes and values in the game itself. It has been an amazing experience to have worked with such talented and diverse musicians and with Jorrith on directing. I learned a heck of a lot from everyone, enjoyed watching this project grow, and I'm happy I was able to be part of it. I hope you will enjoy this album and hope it becomes as much as classic for you, the listener, as the Secret of Mana itself. - Mike Postans (The Nikanoru)

  4. @Rozovian So last year we filed a 990-N, because we're under the $50K limit and had only been a 501c3 for a grand total of one month & change, in 2016. https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/annual-electronic-filing-requirement-for-small-exempt-organizations-form-990-n-e-postcard For our 2017 taxes, I'm planning on doing the full 990, which does spell things out more explicitly. We need to amend our bylaws, get those online, and check some other boxes, but information like you're requesting WILL be made publicly available in Q1 2018 when we go through this process.

  5. PM me your entries. You'll need your own hosting platform in the meantime (soundcloud, mediafire, google drive, etc). I'm contacting Raminescence via FB. And for the love of god, make sure that it is in MP3 format. I had someone email me an m4a which is not applicable. EDIT anyone else need an activation??? Mr. L and Chadlee, do you have account(s) at Thasauce that work?

  6. Is it any surprise that I still give my consent explicitly?

  7. I again give my permission to monetize my songs on the ocr youtube channel. I don't post much anymore but the site's existence is still important to me, so anything to help make the site's costs easier to manage and plan for is fine by me. Please upload a video at some point of all of Liontamer's Lamborghini hot tubs, though.

  9. I love this! I agree with Gario, I love that organ. Poppy indeed. I could really imagine hearing it over the speaker system at Shinra HQ. In fact, I just imagined this replacing the battle music while you're at Shinra HQ and it made me smile. It manages to be so different from the original while still being so fitting. I like the abrupt start too, since the original also starts that way.

  10. Results time. Silverpool got 11 points and last place wooden spoon. Flurry of Flames collected 15 points, enough to get second place. And the winner of PRC362 is Hoboka with 16 points. Hoboka congratulations. It was close, but well deserved. You may pick a source for PRC365. The winner of next round (PRC363) also gets the right to pick a source for this round. Send the source to me (with a MID/MP3 file, otherwise send a second source with a MID file) by PM, other options are PM me @ ThaSauce or by e-mailing to bambombim@gmail.com (I prefer a PM @Ocremix). Send your source as fast as you can, but before next Monday (18 December 2017), 10:59 AM ThaSauce time (18:00 UTC, 19:00 GMT). You may select any source for any game, but not a source with an OverClocked remix or a source which has been used in PRC before. An overview of the past PRC's can be found in the following links: http://sites.google.com/site/bambombim/prc http://bambombim.googlepages.com/PRCRemixList.doc (also downloadable via the link above). Check the ThaSauce Page for the results and votes. Vote by Flurry Of Flames: PRC 362 vote 1. Hoboka 2. Silverpool I really enjoyed Hoboka's remix when it ventured out away from the source tune as not only was it creative but I felt I could feel what he/she was trying to express and how they went about doing it. The instrumentation for the second half with piano was awesome as everything seemed to meld together. Another part I loved was when the drum kit was introduced in the later part of the remix as it had such a groove to it which made me want to get moving. The parts that I personally would want to see tweaked would be the first half of the piece. The reason being it was almost too faithful to the source tune as it really only changed instruments but most of the notes of each section remained the same from it seemed like to me. Also as a personal opinion, I wasn't really a fan of the staccato notes in the first half as it seemed jarring, but that might just be me. I was lukewarm about the first part because of the contrast of how the second part was just so good that I wanted more of that. It seemed real with an passionate fire behind it unlike the first half. I love the remix as a whole, and can't wait for more. Silverpool's remix was also a good remix. I really liked the instrumentation as it played off each other well and gave off an atmospheric tone. It felt like I was surrounded from all sides from instruments and was being overwhelmed which was pretty awesome. The comments of how I would improve this are two aspects of sticking to close to the source material and diminishing returns on repeats. There is nothing bad about being faithful to the source tune, but I feel like if you don't add anything else to it, a part of you and your expression of music seems to be lost or not there entirely. I don't know how much time silverpool had on this remix, but I felt like even though it sounds great, I didn't hear anything that came from silverpool directly which could be me for all I know. The second reason what I was talking about diminishing returns is that this remix repeats the source material several time, but there are apparent differences between them. So even if it sounds great, It tends to lose some of its magic the more it is repeated without changing something, or going in a different direction altogether. It is a wonderful remix and there is a lot to improve upon a great foundation. Thanks for letting me listen.

  11. I have a remix... but I'm not able to get the confirmation email at ThaSauce, so I can't upload it there. (I've registered with the same username.) Any help?

  12. The transparency is appreciated. I don't really see any potential problem with the non-profit separate entity stuff now in effect (mega-yay for that!).

  13. So long as there's transparency, I'm cool with it. Can we see some more specific numbers, like an end-of-the-year report on costs and revenue? How much is being paid out of pocket, how much does patreon cover, ads, other donations, other costs...

  17. I was very curious how one could make FF7's battle music into an elevator style song, and this did not at all disappoint. The switch to major was a smooth move, and the bouncy, overly active accompaniment really gives this that elevator music feel. That poppy organ was probably my favorite instrument in there. As far as places where you could expand, improvements, etc., I suggest building in a bit of an introduction. It sounds like it just pops into existence; with a small bit of introductory material it it'd prepare the listener a bit better for what you've got, here. It might also help generate some ideas you can use later in the track, too, as an added bonus. Obviously my opinion more than anything, but if you're looking for ideas that's a thought. The mix is a bit busy in this. The production is otherwise great, but if someone isn't familiar with the FF7 battle theme the overall track would be difficult to follow since every instrument is mixed more or less in the same place in the mix. Bringing out the instruments that are playing a theme the listener can grasp helps make the track sound more focused and goal oriented. Granted, this IS elevator music, so this meandering aesthetic might actually work to your advantage in this case, but it's an idea of an alternative direction to take the track. Great little spur-of-the-moment track you've got here, though - I got a real kick out of it.
