It's time for BadAss to return! David L. Puga and I return to direct BadAss: Paragons and Renegades (title may change). But this isn't your "regular" BadAss; this time the heroes get the spotlight! From the grittiest anti-heroes to the most determined heroes, it's time for the protagonists to show us what they've got! The album itself will have genre restrictions like previous BadAss albums, but with a twist: there's one 'Paragons' disc (mainly directed by me) and one 'Renegades' disc (mainly directed by David), each with a different genre. So let's see who wins while still being a BadAss doing it! The Paragon disc is about adventure, determination and courage. Think of the Chrono Trigger theme, "Flameheart"by Two Steps From Hell (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQMpRWuT6hk), and the 'X-Training' theme from X-Men First Class (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUCA6w0Zz-k) but it is certainly not limited by orchestral. Rock themes like the 80s/90s cartoons and shows (Biker Mice from Mars, Power Rangers or Airwolf) are also good examples and electronic music is certainly appreciated as well! Base line: getting you pumped up and ready for adventure! Make sure to send me an example of the vibe you're going for to check if it fits the album! The Renegade disc is more "regular" BadAss style, especially BadAss II. In other words, not the big epic or symphonic rock from BadAss 3 (which is perhaps better suited for the Paragon disc), but raw and gritty is the name of the game and rock and dark electronic music will be the go-to style here. We want to show the world that protagonists can be at least as BadAss as the bosses, so let their inner darkness out on this side of the album! For references (and awesome music), check out BadAss 2. Be sure to check in with David if you want to make a mix for this disc! More details will follow, but we're aiming for about 20 tracks (balanced between the discs) and we want to complete this in about a year (BadAss 3 took 14 months to be sent to eval, so let's see if we can do it in 12 this time around!). And suffice to say, only (anti-)hero themes are eligible this time around! Are you going to be part of the next BadAss album? Let's see if you've got what it takes! Directors: David L. Album Requests?
TheChargingRhino and one other reacted to Rozovian for a topic
I see you, ACO. I see you. Album projects have gotten stupidly ambitious. It'd be nice to see more shorter albums. One disc, some central tracks, unremixed pieces, remixers' favorites, themed around the bad guys or locations or something, done within a year or so by a handful of remixers who each do multiple tracks for a more cohesive sound. If I ever do another album, that's my approach. Narrow focus, small scope. Much easier. And maybe a stickied album requests thread in the remix requests, or a resurfacing album requests thread here in community could inspire people to make more shorter album projects. Nothing says they have to be ocr-style, either. Posted remixers can pimp them here anyway, and there are other outlets for this stuff too, eg reddit. Mods, thoughts? If you're particularly interested in the Rocket Knight Adventures album, necroing the album thread is showing interest. I liked how the sd3 project thread saw activity from people hoping and waiting for it. I'm sure others working on album project feel the same way about theirs. Even if the project is dead, thread activity can inspire remixers to have a look at the tracklist and maybe do a remix from the game independent of the album. So it's a remix from the game, even if it's not a whole album.2 points -

Does...Simon Belmont's theme from CV4 count?? I could do that one pretty well. Probably.2 points -
Yeah it sure does! Are you going for the Paragon or Renegade disc? Sounds good and the genre you have in mind sound good too! Can't wait to receive a first WIP from you so we can officially welcome you to the album!1 point

Hi, I gave the tracks a quick listen. The heavier parts could use improved production. The choice of drum sounds don't quite have the aggression of the guitar, and the guitar could have more bite to it. The performance sounds fine to me; it's a mixing and sound design issue I'm hearing. Four Months sounds really down to earth and nice. There's a background noise in the drums, but for a track like that I don't mind it. It just sounds more organic, more alive that way. Might be annoying on headphones though. The melodies do indeed seem inspired by the snes era. I like that.1 point

There is no Anti hero, that's just wordplay. The Hero's theme is the main point we're sticking to here, whether they be superheroic or an anti hero doesn't matter so much as that they're the main protagonist. Any hero theme, whether it be the main theme to a series (Ezio's Family from Assassin's Creed), a specific character's theme from a game (Shieks Theme from Ocarina of Time, though Zelda's Lullaby would work), or a level theme that references the main theme (The Guardian's Theme from Darksiders 2 since it's just a rearrangement of the main titles).1 point

Pitch it then. Make it happen. Literally one of the first things I did after I had made the initial project thread and put out a recruitment call, I went down the list from A to Z of all my favorite remixers and painstakingly sent off DMs to each and every one of them (limit 5 per day for these forums) hoping to recruit them to the project. 80% never responded back or even read the DMs. 10% will politely say no for whatever reason. However, the remaining 10% will surprise you and be on board to creating tracks for the album. You just never know until you ask!1 point -
I use ocremix from about 10 years, but i have never posted a message. This is the first time because i couldn't resisted after listened this amazing remix. We spend years playing Sonowboard Kids with my friends. For me is one of the best multiplayer games for N64. I remember more beautiful songs in the grass, night and sand tracks. Excellent work man!! Thanks a lot for the contribution.1 point

Album Requests?
Eino Keskitalo reacted to Jorito for a topic
Chipping in, what DFW is saying is true. It's a lot of work managing an album, but I've personally found it very rewarding and satisfactory (hence doing my 3rd album gig, as the Terranigma co-director this time). There's something about working with artists, see and help their vision come to life bit by bit and unleashing the combined tracks unto the world that has a certain something to it. It can feel like cat herding at times, but for me it has been worth it. Having a manageable album vision and scope and clear deadlines (I prefer albums projects that can be finished within 1 year) definitely helps. Either way, it is typically a process that takes months at least (sometimes years, with large gaps of inactivity if you're unlucky), depending on the vision, scope, directing and that does involve a commitment of time and energy from the director(s). I've seen projects stall because the director(s) started enthusiastically but couldn't keep the time and energy committed to it to see things through to the end. Maybe directing your own album is not something you want to do, but if it is something you're considering, I hope it helps to give you a sense of the things you might run into rather than going in blind.1 point -

There is also nothing stopping you from becoming director and gathering together awesome talent and managing an entire album on your own. (granted, I had help in the way of @Modus, who was invaluable) But anyone can make an album become reality. Arcadia Legends is proof of that. However, it is a lot of work, keeping up to date on both remixers,, artists and more and making sure everything is flowing smoothly and on time. It takes a lot of organization and patience and definitely a lot of micro and macro managing. It will not be easy, but if you are passionate about the project, others will see that and hopefully will want to join and make it a reality too with you.1 point -
Spin the Wheel - Number 3
HoboKa reacted to TheVideoGamer for a topic
And it is over! Our entries included a Submission from Ronald Poe Considering he is the only one, who has participated: Ronald Poe is the winner by default for SPIN THE WHEEL 3! Congratulations Ronald Poe! Since you won by default, you get to decide 6 games that can go into the wheel, one for each system. Just to clarify it's 1 game, per system, not 6 games for one system! One for each system listed below. Before you submit your games you must follow these rules: Do not submit a game that is already in the wheel. Try and go for games that haven't as many remixes Make sure it's re-mixable, but of course it will be anyways lol. Make sure the games you pick, have over 5 tracks long at least 30 seconds or more. I cannot accept games, that don't contain music or a sufficient number of tracks. It's customary to provide me a link to the soundtrack, weather it be YouTube, Dailymotion or whatever. If not, then i will. Please PM me the games, i want this to be private. List the choice of games by the name of the system. So if it was X-Men, that would be classed as a Sega Genesis game and would be placed under that heading. It's also optional to list the composer, to help with the info. What i need is essentially one game from each system listed below. I want these entries by next week Friday 15th February! Once you have sent the me the games, next round goes up ASAP. I will review the choice of games to make sure they are acceptable. Below is a list of games, currently in the wheel. When your games have been chosen, expect to see a couple of games be swapped, for the next compo, which is on the Friday 15th of February. This will be highlighted in colour (Or colours depending if there is multiple winners). The 6 video game systems are as follows: NES SNES Sega Genesis PS1 Arcade PC Current games in the wheel (This will change as i receive games from the winners): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xxoGX4bS2_q_URpN35K8b9oGn1zogHiRxLarik38IZU/edit?usp=sharing Please send me these entries via PM, with each game listed underneath each console. So i'd put it like this if it was me: Name of Game, followed by Name of Console. I need this by Next Sunday 6th January. Congratulations everyone, i will see you next time!1 point -
Very pleasant and very peaceful. I think I even caught myself swaying back and forth along with the tune! Love your solo string sounds, especially the violin.1 point
