  1. Well, there are a few SNK remixes on OCR, but nothing new since 2007. Though there might be various covers and arrangements on the internets. Art of Fighting had awesome music, so did Samurai Spirits and many King of Fighters. Metal Slug is another popular one, not to mention the myriad of shmup and beat'em up/all. Strangely enough, I cannot remember a single song out of a Fatal Fury game... But yeah, SNK deserves at least a few more remixes. A KoF album would be neat.
  2. Been wondering: will the site update allow for people to add their own custom avatars? Cause in this day and age, such functionality is available on nearly every forum/BBS. It would be pretty rad to have that option on OCR as well.
  3. And I'm up for a collab on Opening if anyone is interested.
  4. It's generally a good idea to take a minute and read the OP before attempting to join a project.
  5. Huge fan of Kenichiro Fukui here. Really appreciate what you've done with the source. Trance isn't necessarily my area of expertise, so it's hard to express accurate criticism regarding sound design choices. Though I understand that little things that bug me (like the obnoxiously rigid bass line) are inherent to the genre itself. For what it's worth, I think you've done really well from an arrangement and production standpoint, in regard to the original track. The soundscape is really cohesive imho, and elements fit together quite nicely, carrying energy and impact throughout the piece. Some of the synth you've used (like the mid-lows freq saturated/filtered arpeggio) I've been trying to re-create for a long-long time... Your style here reminds me of some Namco Sound Team composers, like Hiroshi Okubo and Tetsukazu Nakanishi in their electronica prime. Would love to re-play Einhander and go through the Air Base again with this arranged version of DAWN playing in the background. Switch to 'mod review' if you want workshop mods to weight in as to whether it's interpretive enough for OCR. Nevertheless, a fitting tribute. Nice work sir.
  6. Parasite Eve! Awesome choice mate. This game holds some of Shimomura's finest work imho.
  7. Acknowledged. Good luck with your work thing.
  8. This sums up my strategy for the compo quite neatly ...oh, wait. Also, nothing would brighten my day more than going up against Underground Zone. Mixing my two favorites Sonic tunes just before getting burned down by a wildfire. What a glorious and dignified ending it would be. ;D
  9. and (from the Sword & Sworcery EP soundtrack)Played a lot of games in my life. Haven't felt this way about one in a very long time. Everyone NEEDS to experience the sheer magnificence that is Superbothers Sword & Sworcery EP. If only for the way audio, visuals and narrative blend together to make you feel something as you play. Just wow.
  10. More of a Frixuelos, actually. Well, considering the relative complexity of my source and the fact that I'm TOO SLOW, proly gonna try to translate by ear before the compo. Once my match and his/her source is known, I'll either decide on a direction or I'll spread maple syrup on the walls while shuddering in fear. ;P
  11. Took less than four pages for the epic battle between Lizcakes and Panzards to erase all trace of the actual Compo. Also, having huge teams (as in bracket sized) go against each other could be thrilling. 16 vs 16 all out remixing brawl, or team deathmatch style. Whoever roast the most. Might be a concept to explore and experiment with in future compos.
  12. T'was a little saddening to see him try to redeem the SH serie as whole. No mention of the abomination that was SH HD Collection either. Oh, well. Meanwhile, a single man (Jasper Byrne) made a better Silent Hill game on his own than Konami ever could. And it's in freaking 2D.
  13. Now I feel bad that you've put all this effort into it, because it'll only be used once in the compo. Awesome sig is awesome! Not if you make dubstep/chiptune and have a handful of trendy friends to vote for ya. Great idea. Thanks for putting that list together, it'll save everyone a lot of time I'm sure. Though you can remove the 'Chun Nan Night' theme, since I'll only use the Day version. And to get it on with our top reality show of the week: if I ever faced Akumajo Belmont in a turn-tabling contest... Well, it would mean that everyone in my bracket were bad enough to get beaten by a deaf guy who makes music with a gamepad. So, yeah. See you on the VROOM project Robbie.
  14. Well, looks like it's shaping up to be a "Ben Briggs vs Gario" finale. ;P Seriously though, the roaster is packed full of cool OCR peeps on both sides. I'll be lucky to get even one point, let alone make it past the First Round. Any other noob in there besides me?
  15. Sounds more like a brainwash, but to each his own. Good luck with your future musical endeavors sir.
  16. Now THAT's what I'd call a community-wide event! Though that much would be madness to handle/keep track of.
  17. Why on earth would you do something like that? Even if it didn't pass the panel outright, it could still have passed album eval. That was a pretty interesting and rocking interpretation of the source imho. Not a nice gesture toward Kuolema who's been working to get this tribute together. But that's your call.
  18. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing it right: An awesome birthday to two awesome people.
  19. @dannthr: sir, you've worded this better than I ever could (at my modest level of course). Composing melodies is what gives (gave) me the most enjoyment. Mixing/nitpicking, not so much. Many ideas and inspiration were lost to me in the quest of improving production values. Balancing all these elements while keeping sight of the objective is truly a daunting task. Everyone pretty much has their own journey to experience and summits to climb. There's always gonna be someone who can do better in less time and with less effort. The most important/hardest thing imho is to avoid getting discouraged and loose your passion.
  20. Ian Stocker - Tubeworqs Funk (from Monster Tale original soundtrack) Everyone whith a love for old school games should definitely check this little gem for the DS. It's a love letter to Metroid, Castlevania, Megaman and Wonderboy in Monster Land. All that while featuring an awesome and eclectic soundtrack to boot.
  21. Well, now we know which direction the coin is gonna flip toward. Don't worry, it's fitting nicely now. Thanks for taking the time to do this. @Superior X: list edited with more picks, per your request.
  22. 1. Dragon Road/Chun Nan Day (Sonic Unleashed) 2. Underground Zone (Sonic 2 GG) 3. Cool Edge/Holoska Night (Sonic Unleashed) 4. Sky High Zone (Sonic 2 GG) 5. Aqua Lake Zone (Sonic 2 GG) EDIT1: fair enough Mr X. I've added four more tracks for principle. EDIT2: allright Mr X. I've updated the list with the latest picks. @PixelPanic: sig limit is 250px height, but yours is 312px, potentially turning any thread into a gallery. You can put banners side-by-side to save space or simply adjust them in height to fit under the limit. Please be considerate of others looking through this thread. Thanks.
  23. Was gonna post about this, nice timing. Very insightful interviews, especially regarding the overall creative process and team work. Well worth watching if you're interested in how a modern triple-A game score comes to life.
  24. http://vimeo.com/26786498 Let's see what you got Stuart Little.
  25. Gario, the direct link is in plain view in the OP: Just click on the link, and save the whole .rar archive to your comp. Done!
