  1. A ....and B. Certainly, you do realize it can't be as simple as that. The best exemple for me is Final Fantasy: perfect franchise. Changing course each time, but keeping the core element to drag the fanbase. I've skipped some episodes I didn't liked, but each added its lot of innovation and plot twist, and half-hour summons. Appart from that, the serie break into smaller fork, which expands the franchise in genre and in possibilities, with titles like Chocobo Dungeons, Dirge of Cerberus, Crystal Chronicles and such. Now, what we don't tend to see, is that games are softwares. And in that regard, treated as well, with new episodes simply improving the formula, while some others covertly serve the purpose of being a beta to a major title. That being said, as an 'old-school' gamer, I'll obviously play games that have seen a certain amount of sequels over the years. So inevitably, I'll tend to be both more conservative, and more inclined to expect innovation from said franchises. Which, mind you, doesn't stop me from playing both the new Bionic Commando AND Final Fantasy VI at the same time.
  2. Well, I wasn't expecting such a favor. Thanks. It's too bad there's not more people entering. Maybe the source was a bit obscure. Anyway, I'm off to vote now.
  3. Glad you liked it. It's not the first time I get this Bryyo song comparison though. Did you meant the ice part (screw attack), or the cliffside part? Anyway, 15 songs is great! I now officially believe in miracles. ...even though none of my requests made it through. FBRC was definitely a great challenge and a lot of fun.
  4. That is correct sir. I can rebuild it, I have the technology.

Just gimme a couple more years and... oh sorry, what was this about again?

  5. I saw you had some guitar issues on the workshop section. Nevertheless this is a clever idea right here, but I found it unexpectedly short. I needed moar! Please go on with this, it has got potential. Say, you aren't looking for a collab here by any chance?
  6. Pretty good so far. The lead has a little too much presence imo, and the mix needs more thickness. It's just a little thin right now. Need to add some texture in the background. No hatred nor displeasure to unload atm. You can proceed.
  7. Darn, I missed the deadline by so little... Here's my entry anyway, maybe it could be added as bonus mix or something. Streets of Rush Intended descritpion: "What if the game was a 90s beat'em up instead of a racing game?" ps: Seto's entry is listenable on thasauce.
  8. Looks like I've missed the OHC of the century.
  9. Huh, a strange thing is happening on the compo page: Seto's track is here... but it isn't at the same time.
  10. Then I hope you'll enjoy it: 'Airflare Valley' Now with less than 15% source usage guaranteed! With 6 entries against 17 for last year round, we better start believing in miracles.
  11. Now that there's only one day left, it would be nice to know who requested what. Hope there'll be moar songs submitted before the deadline though. Anyways, I'm not sure who asked for 'Teehee Valley'. Was it RocketSniper? I'd like to know, so that I can add it to the song description and upload it. Thx.
  12. Are you talking about the SuperMario Bros Special soundtrack? If so these may help: link #1 link #2 Just be aware that it's a japan only release, so obviously a hard one to find.
  13. Dunno why, but I saw this one coming. Yahtzee partly did Sh2 for himself. Much like the without being angry.Ahah Cubehead. Would have been a thrill to try runing away from one, just to run into the other. Oh, and for the record, is still to this day one of the most beautiful and hauting piece of video game music ever made.
  14. Would that mean bonus tracks are a possibility as well?
  15. Wow that's gross... This journalist need to be prosecuted for defamation. I believe the exact term for such act is 'Libel'.
  16. What if I'm a Metroidvania fan instead? Always on the lookout for fresh old-school platform-adventure games, with lots of exploration, secrets, and huge boss fights. This one seems very promising, with a vast map, and a lot to uncover. But it looks more like 'Metalgear meets Bionic Commando', than Metroid to me. Whereas, it may have much more exploration and replay value than these two titles combined. The plot doesn't seem very compelling, but that shouldn't be an issue. Now, I need to get my hands on some x360...
  17. Happy Level Up man! guitar skill +4 drum prog +3 synth knowledge +1 mixing +2 found 304 zenny learned the 'Coffeecake spell' Lv1
  18. Guitar Rig isn't too bad when it comes to fuzz & distortion, even for bass. The basic overdrive effect tend to try to render an electric guitar effect, so it may not be as convincing for say, an electronic bass or a synth either. Try this: -Mixdown your guitar/bass part, import it in your wave editor, and use distortion plugin on the part. -Then pass it through a noisegate to add grain while avoiding sound saturation. -Finally add a phaser filter on top, and normalize the average rms to -16dB. I get a really nice fuzz sound, free of clipping by doing that. Hope that helps.
  19. Well, as long as there's enough source and that the mix is clean & creative, the lenght probably won't matter that much. But I'm afraid it might still be too generic sounding for OCR standards though. Then again, I'm no judge. Neblix is right, you should go for Cosmo Canyon, but don't forget the game title pal.
  20. Well, song critique can never be 100% objective. There's always a part that is subject to personal preferences. But it's cool man, I got your point. Maybe I hadn't been expressing myself clearly enough. Let me rephrase that. -The pad sound is fine. Just add some harmonies to avoid the monotony. -In that case, the reverse crash was a purely subjective thing, as Neblix suggested. -I was talking about all snares in general. I didn't said loud, I said dry. -Yeah, the gurgling sound in particular is a bit too present. But if you're ok with it, keep it that way. I'll leave it to others to confirm or deny the need for afformentioned tweaks. Maybe precising that the song is 'Cosmo Canyon' into your topic title would help bringing more people in here to give feedback. ...oops! That would be another one of my subjective suggestions, wouldn't it? xD
  21. B. computer. I use my comp to play old games mostly, but it's always refreshing to try and run Crysis on low at a whooping 10fps. As for A... well, I haven't owned a home console since the PS2.
  22. Ok , now it sounds more varied, and the mix appears to be cleaner overall. Here's the crit: -Intro pad sound is better. Intro atmosphere isn't. --> Add some other strings to give more texture. -Your drums aren't introduced at all. --> You absolutely NEED a reversh crash of sorts. I'm dead serious. -Snare is still a bit loud. --> Try to lower it to 85-90% of its current volume. -Snare is a bit too dry. When it hits, it hits hard. --> Add some wet and space in your reverb to soften the blow. -Your electronic sfx are somewhat too proheminent atm. --> Put them in the background a little more. -Flute is still piercing. --> Lower the velocity on the most highly pitched notes. These are all minor fixes that you can adress fairly easily. You're almost there, just a little more effort.
