  1. True, but I also do that listening to a song 20 times over. A combination, not a compromise, is best. That is, listen to it 20 times, then listen to other stuff for a while, then come back and listen another 20 times. It'll help, trust me.
  2. Wow, I really don't remember it that way, I was sure he was killed by the same curse as in the movie. This is how I remembered it before seeing the movie, too. A green flash of lightning, and he stopped dead in his tracks, falling dead to the ground. I wonder why memories get twisted like that.
  3. As I remembered it from the book, he just dropped dead (though it's been a long while since I read it - I didn't remember many parts in the film from the book). Now he just vanished into the gate (or that's what it looked like anyway). Wtf was that gate anyway?
  4. The thing is, everything sounded ok up until when everything started playing off-tempo. If you were able to make what was there up until then, then obviously you should be able to tell what makes the off-tempo part (the ending) different from the on-tempo part (the rest). Also, as a general rule of thumb - never ever submit something to OCR if you feel like "this part of my song could still be improved" or "I could do this better but I'm too lazy". Do your very best, impress yourself, or don't sumbit the song, because if you can find issues with it, the judges can.
  5. Sorry to bother, but there doesn't seem to be any threads about this movie yet. I have little to say about it to be honest - it felt rather different from the other movies and focused a little too much on Harry's hard feelings, in my opinion. Anyway - am I the only one to think Imelda Staunton (Umbridge) looks like she could be Will Ferrell's sister? I mean, they look so alike.
  6. Don't ask yourself "is this off tempo or off beat", ask yourself - "does it sound good"?
  7. Well I dunno but I think the synths sound good but rather "generic" - especially the solo intro. There's also hardly any processing going on here. Listen to this song and study how the drums punch through the soundscape. That's the kind of stuff the judges like. Your song sounds like a midi but with better instruments - there's no effects or anything. The drums sound pretty dry. As for sound quality, listen to places like 2:05-2:10 where the sound clips - you're playing the sounds too loud, and the result is a grainy, crackly effect - the judges hate that. Also, the end of the song suffers from instruments being off tempo and off beat. From 3:13 and on, the pad is dissynchronized from the drums, and then the piano starts getting out of sync too. At 3:23-3:24 the drums are even out of sync with themselves. Sounds like you've got some tempo edits left where they're not supposed to be. From 3:23 and on it sounds like you didn't even listen the song through, you just copied some parts into the end, added a cymbal, and made an MP3 from it. Each of the instruments are playing their own tempo. This sounds very unprofessional and does not impress the judges. I would suggest you listen to this song through a few more times, especially the last minute of it, and think about what can be improved. Remember not to be lazy - every bit of the song needs equal attention. There are other reasons why I don't think this would pass the judges panel, but if you fix the issues above you should at least be able to reach the panel and get them to vote (though you're likely to get NOed at. When voting they'll hopefully tell you what can be done to improve the mix up to a level where it lives up to OCR standards. Don't give up!
  8. Yeah. Except, you can isolate a single track (let's say vocals) if you have the full song and the karaoke version. Similarily, if you have both the song with the effects included and the song without effects, you can isolate the effects.
  9. EVERY OCR REGULAR SHOULD GET CHIPAMP. Especially people who want to make ocremixes. There, I said it. I understand why you did it, I just think that you're only harming them by making it easier for them. Plus, you can't turn individual channels off with MP3's, which makes making a remix of it a lot more difficult. BTW, I'm learning how to make NSF's of my own, and the lead instrument in the chorus of this song really puzzles me. I can't seem to find the correct parameters to make this awesome sound (which is fairly common in Konami games, btw).
  10. Speaking of pan flutes, you really should give the Young Merlin song I told you to listen to a try. The vocals section sounds a bit like the Lion king soundtrack. Hehehe.
  11. This song rocks. But what's with people making mp3's out of NES soundtracks when there's NSF's?
  12. There are already several remix competitions in the gendisc forum. There's no need to have competition between remixes that have already been posted - the remix reviews are fine. I think.
  13. I think it'd be cool if you were able to hover the mouse over other users' avatars and see the avatar's name instead of "X's avatar", which isn't really that helpful anyway. Dunno how much work would be necessary to do it, but since you can already do it when browsing the avatar gallery, it should be an easy fix, I think.
  14. Windows movie maker works for me. It lets you make wmv files and compresses them according to the file sizes you desire. Small size, crappy quality, big size, better quality. If you're uploading stuff to YouTube, you can't be too picky about video quality anyway. Plus, it takes only a few seconds to learn how to use. Unless you're making professional video, I doubt you need anything better. Here's a video I made using WMM (filmed using my cell phone camera, sounds added using WMM). I added effects to make it look like an old movie, so it's grainier and worse-looking than the original cell phone video, plus cell phone cameras suck to begin with.
  15. Sounds good, Prometheus. Pick a song!
  16. That's what I told him. Try the SPC, I said.
  17. Well, we have the statement in the topic title to blame for all the shitty music on the radio. Producers care about sound quality, not about whether the music is good or not.
  18. Theoretically, if you had a song and wanted it without vocals, you could take the vocals (solo), invert waveform and then mix it into the song, thereby cancelling the vocals in the song and ending up with one without vocals. But then you'd need the solo vocals first. Does that answer your question? So, in order to get the sound effects on their own track, you'd need the music by itself, invert it, and then add it to the whole thing, cancelling the music, and leaving you with only the sound effects. Again, you'd need the music solo track first. Other than the above option, the answer would be "no". Someone around here once likened it to "getting the eggs back out from a cake you've already baked". It's that hard. And there are no invert eggs in real life.
  19. My thoughts: *Better than I expected, though obviously, being a movie about high-school kids, it's a movie made for high-school kids. 2 mandatory girls (can't make a movie without at least one), at least one of which is completely unnecessary to the story. What did the NSA code crackers do? Really? We would have been better off without them. *The movie was a little too short for me to get to learn the characters. Assuming a sequel? *The token African American sounding autobot is the only one of them that dies. Original! *The girl is hot.
  20. hahaha You have an awesome voice for this kinda stuff, really
  21. The trial version can do slowdowns. I doubt the full version is any better at it.
  22. Since when does Wavepad cost money? But yeah, Audacity probably works just as well.
  23. Wavepad. The result is never great, but it does the job. This is the wrong forum for this kind of question though.
  24. My username gets a lot of weird hits on Google. The first 2 image hits are hilarious. This one is a lot of fun, too: http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/littlebritain/characters/daffyd.shtml
  25. Banjo and Kazooie, as well as King K. Rool are all missing from the current avatar gallery. I tried getting them from this picture, but resizing from 80x80 to 32x32 doesn't go well. Will someone give it a try, or find better material to work from? http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i114/TheNGamers/SuperSmashBrosCharacterSelectVer9.jpg
