  1. The sickest tracks you'll EVER hear: http://www.unsigned.com/aaronparsons There's SGX and other excellent stuff on this site as well: http://www.jamendo.com/en/artist/sgx Hope that helps!
  2. I've always hated the last part. However, if we can have better mods and admins that can deal tolerantly with more "unorthodox" material (anyone remember the thread of the Doom 2 Remix Demons from Hell), I'd come back.
  3. Wow! Just got a chance to listen to some of your stuff, zircon. I'm lovin' Track 1 even though it's more of a jazz kinda flavour. Track 2 is kinda more early 2000s-ish. Very neat.Track 3 has a nice meaty West Coast vibe to it (I particularily dug the rides that came in where the full beat officially pops in). But if track 4 would be where the money is, that's not bad too. Just keep it unique, homes! I'm out, Double A. PS The reason I posted those DJ Premier links is to give a little more inspiration to how things are still fundementally done in the streets. There are still heads who want to keep the battle loops and raw in-yo-face feel to rap that's been drowned out by crunk and snap.
  4. Found ALOT of classic material from YouTube! A little more Primo up in here. Try to make some without sampling: (love the grit and crunch) Some Alchemist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spXeDKFX-nc There's also some great dark classic stuff right here from Canada, holdin' it down from Red Deer, here's Invectrum! http://www.youtube.com/user/invectrum If you can pull something off like some of these beats, I may even request to rap over one. Cheers, AA EDIT: How in the world can I forget my favorite? This is a track to get the party wild! Who wants THE REALNESS?! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMZfdLKaVqA
  5. That's awesome! And a great mix. Ska and Kirby is a great combination and definately a challenge to pull off nicely. Great job, guys!
  6. Some sick stuff from DJ Premier's on this one, and he didn't even sample. I've been making instrumentals like this since 2008. http://strictlybeats.blogspot.com/2009/07/blaq-poet-tha-blaqprint.html Have at er, zircon!
  7. This is great! For some odd reason, these sounds remind me of Synth1. I do like the lead there and how the rhode chords play off each other. The synth textures are pretty cool, and also like the little Primo style break between 2:45 and 2:55. Although this form of electronica is not my type, the way this is composed and the use of synthwork is amazing. I wouldn't recommend having the treble all the way up when listening to it as the synth-lines would mash up alot, but all in all, quite decent. 8/10
  8. Excellent opener and pad leads so far. This is alot more calm than most of 8-bit Instrumental's stuff. It kind of reminds me of the GooGoo Dolls for some odd reason. Other than the neat drum/shaker variation in the middle this is pretty much just a relaxing mix of one of my favorite songs in the soundtrack. Nothing too far out, nothing too mellow either. Just right for someone who needs a relaxing song to chill to after a long day at work. 8/10
  9. I still remember this emulation of po's style. This is more like house/lounge/jazz rather than hip-hop though. The vibes seem to clip a little bit, but other than that the arrangement and contrast between the rhode/string accompaniment and melodic elements definately play off each other well. The sine bass and 808/606-ish drums keep things in a great flow. Yup, 8 years later, I'm lovin' it!
  10. Wow! Great funky stuff...and yeah...as I wrote in a previous review, great brass samples are hard to find. The way they're used here is as at full potential though. The guitar here has some great wah riffs while the lead sucks you right in. Great stuff! 10/10
  11. Pal, before I go further, let me say that no one mentioned how awesome the clav is on this track...anyway: this is one funky swing hippity hop-like mix that Premier would have sampled if the horn samples were more realistic. Unfortunately, horn samples are hard to come by...especially in the funk/swing/jazz/hip-hop category (that reminds me, I wonder where SelectaNovel got his horn stabs; I gotta get me some of those). And were there some chip elements in there too? Buddy, keep on submitting! This track is amazing; and yes, I'm sure you'll find some good horn sounds.
  12. Wow! Excellent upgrade to an underated source-tune/game! I remember Joe Redifer's take, and this one is crazy! Glitch madness, and chiptune rock = gold! There must have been a mix of all kinds of stuff, not just VOPM like sounds. I actually had this on repeat and when it looped to the beginning of the song, it felt exactly as a video game tune should when looping. If I were to be use this for a video game programming project at school, I'd give credit first though. Since this give the source alot of credit, and enhances it with not just arrangement play but well-placed key change, you get 10/10.
  13. Oh I almost forgot: http://www.myspace.com/djvajra This guy can mix music and scratch like a pro! Highly recommended!
  14. I've listened to pretty much every CD in the free music category from the odd yet unresistable Joe Gurba in Alberta who just started his own record label Old Ugly (I'd do that myself if I wasn't in school now). The free stuff on here is amazing, especially CBT is Struggling with Insecurity! Download or buy Joe's Ut Oh CD. This is the way underground hip-hop needs to go! http://olduglyco.com/fr_index.cfm EDIT: Oh yeah, for chiptune fans, try some ear candy from Old Ugly Records' Racoon Suit. I'm not sure if he's any good, but he's supposed to have so NES/Commodore-ish type music on his myspace. http://www.myspace.com/racoonsuit
  15. This guy owns live! I was at his concert in May in Winnipeg! It was off the hook!
  16. I'd say this is one of my favourite OCR albums of all time as Final Fantasy 4 is my favourite RPG IMO. Then again, I may be speaking biasedly as many different opinions are coming out from reviews here and I actually enjoy the contreversy for once. The genres covered here really add an emphasis to the atmosphere Uematsu was looking for. It's got everything from rock, metal, electronica, ambient, traditional house-trace, and even classical. It's a good break from my current listening studies of beats (oh no! Double A's trying to be the next DJ Premier!) I think the arrangements are excellent as both creativity is expressed and the source tunes are easily recognizable. People may complain about sticking close to the original especially with simple tracks like Theme of Love for Guitar Duet or Almost Fell for the Trojan (actually, that one goes off), but these ones are great to listen to when I'm just chillin. C'mon people! Enjoy music for music, so the real can be brought back to the people! The highlights for me are songs that have The Fabul Men's Choir which consist of OCR members who individually made some tracks here. I especially like Fighting for Tomorrow which sports some savagely oriental big beat mish-mash. It kinda sounds a little j-pop especially at 1:43 Not a big fan of the ambient tracks as they drag. I wanted a little more Wu Tang clan style for Damcyan Castle (er...pretend I didn't say that). Edward's Dream Quartet reminded me of Truth Behind the Project for Crisis Core...good stuff here. Survival Instinct was one that absolutely blew me away. I've been trying to produce a good drum and bass track and this guy beat me to the punch nicely. I thought it was a cinematic hip-hop track at first but then the boss theme comes in with an assault of some bangin' breaks and synths. But of course, my favorites are bLiNd's tracks. They absolutely outshine joecam's bling-bling and thank God he's been healed of his hospitalized condition back in 2008. I have to get a club dancing with Path of Deception and Bridge of Eternity has been on repeat for a long time in my car. A bunch of Facebook friends of mine now want a download button on my MP3 player application because of this song...he he. The bonus track I love this Radio is a good one to play off an 8-track if you still have one and can get one of these old skool puppies pressed. Calcobrena After a Night of Dinner and Dancing is just cool, zyko must be one of your influences, huh? Of Fiend and Man is interesting. Cinematic/rock/electronica can make ears bleed if not done properly (especially noticed this with the way the swelling horns and strings were mixed in). Tweek's stuff gets better as he continues remixing. The humour in some of the tracks is GOLD! I especially enjoyed Metal Mage (I WANT MILK!) If there was a form of sexual inuendo in that, I can't tell, but hey, it's funny! That's what counts. Ana(pro)logue at 1:01, 1... 2... 3... wow... And please give Zeromus the Serialist another keyboard...preferably a Korg Triton synth. And I almost forgot. In Edward's Dream Quartet at 2:02. I don't know why? I just find that bit until 2:11 funny! Although, if this was actually done with a real professional orchestra, I'll take it back. To conclude, this album has too much sizzle but still has alot of steak to it. I'm highly surprised at how much work has gone into this one. So many collaborations! So many tracks! Excellent coverage off a game that's so under-rated today even with the DS release which was actually very addictive and challenging. What's not to like about FF4 and what's not to like about the music from the original sound track and this album? Download!
  17. Happy Birthday! You make great midis at VGMusic and better remixes here.
  18. This thread makes me proud to be currently single. There are some pretty girls out there who make the most vulgar sexual jokes.
  19. It sounds like Wily has been added to Super Smash Brawl. lol I absolutely love the interpretation to it; a very unique twist in terms of composition compared to other rock, metal, and techno mixes. The choir toward the end could use a little more beef in terms of the stab, but since it didn't have a dominant role so it's decent. The break with the harp is great, and repetition on it doesn't hurt either. The brass is also a good addition. Swelling on the horns could be used and they could be more dominant but it's good for what it is. Marimba and xylophone leads are excellent and propel this mix to a 8/10.
  20. Love the beginning. At first I thought it was going to be like a cliche movie soundtrack-ish hip-hop beat but all of a sudden, the drum and bass breaks came barging in. The execution and composition is excellent! It is a very unpredictable mix and still stays true to the original track feel which in a way is really hard to pull off. 10/10
  21. Jord's come a long way since he submitted his first remix of Zelda 2 Temple. This one had some really original synth textures that I dig. Very housy and a great take on an extremely haunting theme. 10/10 Also, check out Bridge to Eternity, his other remix to Within the Giant. I had that one on repeat for at least an hour.
  22. Earthbound "Your Name Please" John Reuben "Gather In" (0:11 - 0:16) Bassline sounds very similiar but it's in E and at 1:45 is when it goes to C. You have to listen carefully to the bass player since the bass frequencies in the video are horrid. Great Song though:
  23. Wow, very creative. The best way to expand a source tune. Reminds me of the Secret of Spram with Mustin and Jaxx. 10/10
