  1. So I've been away from the site for a while (see this post) and now I'm here to share a short piece I recently managed to finish to satisfaction. It is called Theme from a Dream and features the piano, cello, viola and two flutes for a brief but beautiful run through a theme that I came up with after waking up from a dream a long time ago. Many, many years ago I had this dream with a very moving, adventure game-esque quality to it. Think Zelda. When I woke up from it I was sad that the story was over. As I tried to re-play the dream and add to the story in my head I came up with this theme that has stuck with me ever since. I am thrilled to have finally put it to music after maybe two decades! A second part is still in the making. That'll be more epic, movie-soundtrack like in 6/8 time. Find the finished version here: https://metapop.com/blooming-late/tracks/theme-from-a-dream-part-i/269406 I've also used it as background music in this recent video, featuring my latest Fall/Autumn pictures. The video is dedicated to the memory of my late grandfather, who died last month after a long battle against cancer. Unfortunately I was not able to show him the pictures before his death... Enjoy the music and the pictures! --René
  2. Here is an acoustic arrangement of “Aurora” and “Down to a Dusty Plain” from the game “Child of Light” composed by Cœur de Pirate. https://soundcloud.com/bluelighter0085/child-of-light-to-the-sky-and-the-stars-aurora?si=6f2b9184213c451abea56addfcf01473&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing I’m grateful to all artists who have collaborated with me. Credits: Bluelighter: arrangement, mixing, piano @Bowlerhat : flute @Dewey Newt : trombone @MooglePower : acoustic Guitar, acoustic bass, hand drum (bendir) Original songs : Aurora : Down to a Dusty Plain :
  3. Here is an orchestra arrangement of "Cleyra" and "One danger put behind us" from Final Fantasy IX Original music : Nobuo Uematsu Arranged by me : Flute : @Bowlerhat Violin : @Chris ~ Amaterasu I had several influences for this arrangement: Celtic, movie, march band… I came where I wanted, following my inspiration and my mood of the moment. Enjoy!
  4. Hi everyone, I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post, but this is a bit of an "art" project to me. I've been making a VGM "Fake Book" (it's like a compilation of charts with rhythm notation, chord charts, and two monophonic voices harmonized in a typical jazz arrangement style), and I wanted to share the progress with OCR in case anyone could get some use out of it. I suppose, in some sense, this is my "visual art project" relating to game music. It is a labor of love, so it is incomplete but entries are always being added to it. I'm in the phase of adding the finalized products to the book (many pieces are already transcribed/reharmonized and just lacking final draft) and would love some feedback from the community. I'm not making the whole book available to the public, but I'd like to share some excerpts and see what you think! Table of contents: I've included a .pdf file of "Dark World" from A Link to the Past. You'll notice that my sheets are made into two main sections: "Head" Think of the top line as the main melody, second line as optional harmony/counterpoint. "Vamp" The top line is what most of the accompaniment is providing in the source recordings, but re-voiced/re-harmonized in some instances that I found necessary. I didn't just sit with these pieces and add "7"s to every chord to make it "jazz". The basslines are an attempt to make a 1-1 transference of some bass lines if I find them particularly iconic (it may not be up to me to judge), but may be simplified in some places for "ease of use". The notes are written with an "X" instead of a traditional note-head because I wanted these to indicate rhythm as well, not just pitch. There are chords notated above the top line of the "Vamp". I believe them all to be accurate and have taken some liberties (but nothing too out there) where I heard implied harmony. I was mostly looking out for improvisers and guitarists. The idea was to have the pieces as informative as possible, while also making a clean and comprehensive chart that is easy to sight read. You can take this info and rearrange it for so many mixed groups! I am looking for feedback in the following areas: Ease of Use Accuracy of Melody Harmonic Interpretation Legibility/Comprehension Anyone taking the time to review and critique would have my personal thanks and I'd be happy to provide them more sheets for their time (if interested). Thank you! VGM Fake Book - Dark World.pdf
  5. First time posting! Lena Raine's soundtrack is incredible and Exhale is probably one of my favourite tracks on the album. Transferring the melody to the flute part meant that I could play around a bit more with the piano accompaniment, in addition to playing around with the countermelody towards the end. Would love to hear your thoughts on it!
  6. After many (sometimes frustrating) hours of work I have finally managed to complete this remix. I turned the second BGM from the classic Game Boy game 'Tennis' into an orchestral piece. This time I worked with FL Studio 20 and more professional sound libraries such as Cinematic Strings 2 and Garritan Personal Orchestra 5. I first expected to just copy/paste the notes from my MuseScore version, but quickly found that working with better packages was very inspirational. As a result I managed to create a much more interesting and vibrant composition than I could not have pulled off with MS. I made some important changes compared to the first version: Added a pizzicato intro that is supposed to suggest a tennis match with 2 points scored before a ace is landed. This is a reference to a feature in the game where the computer will often use a nearly unstoppable move (ace in tennis terms) that got me so angry as a kid playing this game. The title reflects this also: 'Ace on Me'. I replaced the vibraphone and harp with the piano, which just sounds much better. I added more voices and used different play styles for the strings sections. Thanks to this discussion I was able to overcome some problems with getting the volume right. I did my best to make the mix work well, but still need more practice with the mixer, EQ and all that stuff. I am open to your feedback, but also a bit reluctant to touch this project more. I would very much like to submit it to ocremix, so I guess if it is not up to standards yet, I may have to dive back into it. Alright, enough talk. To the mix: Original track: Previous version:
  7. Something I wrote and did a while back. I'm playing the flute, and I wrote the background music. If I recall correctly for the background music, used notation software to command a Roland keyboard, and recorded the result.
  8. I think I would have had to totally rewrite the last track to get it up to standard (big thanks to The Damned and Rotten Eggplant for the feedback last time! =D ), and couldn't bring myself to do so. That notwithstanding, I think I incorporated most of the suggestions for this one: not substantially altering the harmony from the original; not including fake-sounding drums; including a bass part for more of the piece; and adjusting the orchestral swell at the end so as not to drown out the flutes. Comments/further feedback would be very welcome! BTW, the original track is here, for comparison:
  9. This is an original song of mine. I am playing the flute. Thought I would share!
  10. Hey guys, I recently completed a little arrangement of "Secret of the Forest" from the SNES class Chrono Trigger. This piece gets covered and arranged fairly often, but I decided I wanted to try my hand at it. A lot of the best covers for this piece either tend to be either a full replication of the original instrumentation or a solo piano piece, so I decided to meet somewhere in the middle and approach it as a piano and flute piece. The result is something that I hope is simple, approachable and a little elegant, while still retaining what made the original piece by Yasunori Mitsuda so special. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as we loved working on it. - Daniel.
  11. Yo! I published my first composition on YouTube and i also want to share it with you people here :). It's quite peaceful track.
  12. For those of you wanting/needing a woodwind player or a bass guitarist, I really want to play for you. If you have a vision of the end product, I can help get you there. I have been playing for 15 years, and I love helping people in this community out. For reference, here is me playing saxophone and bass on an album my band recently released on Overclocked Records Here is another on the same album - much more work done here. I am flexible, and would love to talk to you about your musical needs! Let me know if I can do anything for you. - Aaron Schmitt -
