Hypothetical album time. I was messing around with different album ideas in my head, and I have one in notepad from on my hard drive (Marble Madness), when I started thinking of something Darkesword said he'd like to do. Take all the short map themes in the Mario series and turn them into extended trance mixes, kind of like this song from Daniel Kandi:

I had in mind SMB3. 8 worlds, 8 tracks, but long trance journeys like the song above, or this one:

I might start working on the concept and submit a formal proposal for it based on the response here.

Yeah I already got Flexstyle to run this. It's Super Cartography Bros. and it's already seeing a lot of progress.

Idle question, since we just hit 3K remixes, and I noticed that some of the staff picks from The AV Club's interview were a bit lo-fi: Of the first 1000 ReMixes, about how many would you estimate would pass the panel if they were submitted today?

My word isn't gospel, but a decent clip of 'em would still pass today. If I have free time, I'll try to give a rough answer sometime in January.

Realistically I'd think not many... I mean, I see all the time stuff getting rejected for very small production or structural issues. That's all sub-1000 mixes were. But maybe that's just my opinion. :-P

Definitely would love to see OCR shout out some newer mixes when they do these articles.

No offense intended to sub1000 mixes, it was a different time. Here's my favorite sub1000s

http://www.avclub.com/article/staff-and-artists-overclocked-remix-make-us-list-t-212621

Of the 25 mentioned...

OCR00001-1000: 6 mixes

OCR01001-2000: 7 mixes

OCR02000-3000: 12 mixes

That's a fair point and you're not wrong at all :-P It's just different opinions on "newer" mixes.. 2500 was posted in 2012, so by tomorrow that'll be a few years old. :-P

There were 7 choices that were past 2500 out of 25... :-P

Still it's not a huge deal, the choices are representative of individuals and what they dig or are familiar with -- Chimpazilla picked 3 that were all post-2500 so nearly half of all the post-2500 choices.

It's not my place to say WHAT people should pick of course. But if you guys had picked for each person choosing, say, 1 old mix, 1 mid-age mix and 1 modern mix to represent OCR and its evolution over the years that would have been cool and maybe a little more balanced

So you're pointing out a perceived lack of "newer" mixes represented in that piece, even though a "balanced" distribution of post-OCR02500 mixes would have meant only 4 of them chosen, not the 7 in the actual article?

It'd have less newer ones but it'd have more post-3000 mixes :-P And maybe putting a strong emphasis on the difference over the years would get people to check out the newest stuff when they see the brand new samples!

Say the basis of a remix is based on a single source, but it includes a guitar solo which contains bits from other sources. Would I need to include the additional sources under "Name of individual song(s) arranged", or could I just mention them in the comments section?

I'm asking because in my case these sources do not contribute to the overall structure of the mix and it would feel strange to me to have them link to the track when they only appear as references.

You should mention them somewhere so that we know of all the VGM pieces used in the arrangement, even if it's just cameos for several themes. Cameos don't need to be right in the "Name of individual song(s) arranged", but include some mention of them in your general comments. Timestamps help too.

I submitted Legendary to the panel on May 17th, 2014 and you guys are almost up to it in the inbox so I was wondering if that sub is void and will be passed over? Or if I could sub something else in its place. I only have 1 song at the moment I could sub in for it if it's allowed, just thought I'd ask. :)!!:)!!

Not trying to tiptoe around the rules or anything, it's just an "empty" sub since it was already posted in a flood. My next sub after that was on June 27th which was more than 3 weeks between

I mean....... if you even need more brandon mixes!! right?

Also on this post http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR03073 it's listing the composers as individual people rather than as the group (The National) in addition to other composers that didn't have a part in the song... that seems odd and was wondering if it could be fixed or simplified in some way? When the eventual Blind Guardian remix gets done how is it going to be credited? Maybe thinking too far ahead ;-)

Are the names just being pulled from a database or were they entered manually?

Question: after the forum software switch, will we still need to wait 82862861387598131486 years for Larry to get around to adding new avatars?

No need for replacements. If something gets picked for an album flood, that's the directors'/staff's call, but it doesn't mean there's replacement submissions; that just means what you sent was a direct post.

Currently the site pulls all of a game's composers from the database no matter who composed the source tune of a mix, and we tag the mix the same way (all of a game's composers). If we can populate the database to handle all of the individual song credits, we may be able to get more specific, but that would definitely be a long-term project, i.e. it would take a lot of time to do.

We haven't had new submissions since '13, but we have plenty of avatars. That said, the current avatar set won't SURVIVE the move to Invision, so make your peace with these lil' guys not being there anymore.

If a source tune has vocals, and someone made a ReMix for OCR with the same lyrics, but a different melody and harmonies (but similar-sounding blend to the harmonies), would that still count as source usage? Specifically:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKye8frl9Qc - Original

https://app.box.com/s/d7wsat6dt4dlx8ul9yjzqij3xdh3vkd9 - ReMix

The original seems vocoded, and mine is vocoded.
