OverClocked ReMix Design ?'s and Issues

Search songs by genre.

i.e. drum n' bass, rock, hip hop, house, whatever.

there's a reason that you can't do that - mainly because there isn't a way to classify most remixes. some songs may start out chiptune, then go to rock, then to 'orchestral'...(black wing metamorphosis). there are tags, however, that you can use to find remixes.

And also because I read somewhere the one of the goals of OCR is to get listeners to open up their scope to more styles of music rather than searching for an individual style (example: only hip hop remixes)

EDIT: FOUND IT!

Why aren't the ReMixes categorized by genre, i.e. techno, jazz, orchestral, etc.?

OC ReMix has no intentions of categorizing pieces by genre. We've discussed this matter several times - what it boils down to is a feeling that:

  • There are many pieces that don't fit nicely into genres or have multiple genres, and putting them in "miscellaneous" and "multiple" categories would be kind of lame; and
  • Part of the purpose of the site is to open people's minds (and ears) to new horizons. Try everything. If all you want to do is download Square techno, so be it, but you'll be missing out on tons of great songs. We've decided not to implement a system that would encourage that kind of navigation.
Taken off the OCR FAQ.

A third reason could potentially be that djpretzel would feel lonely having the only piece in the hillbilly genre, but we think the first two reasons are strong enough.

Every FF4 ReMix page is missing the company with its link in the Game line, i.e. it appears as:

Game: Final Fantasy IV (, 1991, SNES)

instead of:

Game: Final Fantasy IV (Square, 1991, SNES)

This might have to do with the fact that FF4's info page doesn't say "Published 1991 by Square for Super Nintendo Entertainment System"

Should be fixed, thanks. Any interest in officially joining staff in a data quality capacity?

is there an easy way to get to the tag cloud for the remixes

the only way I've ever been able to find it is if someone links it so there must be a way

I... just can't find it by myself

Forums > Search > Scroll Down

However, we're strongly leaning towards making tags more official and implementing them outside of vbulletin, then opening vbulletin up so that users can tag threads themselves...

King's Quest V: http://ocremix.org/game/294/kings-quest-v-absence-makes-the-heart-go-yonder-win

DOS looks like the earliest release platform (1990): http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/kings-quest-v-absence-makes-the-heart-go-yonder

Win (3.x) in 1992: http://www.mobygames.com/game/win3x/kings-quest-v-absence-makes-the-heart-go-yonder

Mechwarrior 2: http://ocremix.org/game/278/mechwarrior-2-31st-century-combat-win

DOS release predates the Windows release by a few months: http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/mechwarrior-2-31st-century-combat vs http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/mechwarrior-2-31st-century-combat

Command & Conquer: http://ocremix.org/game/76/command-and-conquer-win

Two nitpicks for two review thread labels:

- Will is the Lord should have a short I in the word "is" (that's the rule on the mix page, in the MP3, and everywhere else).

- Uh Oh! The Beat Have Started To Move! needs a single quote mark ' at the end of the title (also in the first post).

Also, last I checked, the Metal Gear mix was the only one shortened to acronym form (UOTBHSTM) in the 1-1000 torrent file. But I trust you've dealt with it by now. :)

1. "Is" is a verb and is capitalized in proper titles. That was a mistake of mine I caught a ways back. So the thread title is right, and the DB will be corrected when we re-release the individual mixes.

2. Fixed.

3. Fixed in January '09. The updated files will have this fixed, no worries.

- The Japanese title for Mega Man & Bass doesn't need the subtitle after "Rockman and Forte" (未来からの挑戦者) - that version was released for the Wonderswan in 1999, and the game in OCR's database is the GBA version released years later. Just cross-checking with Wikipedia.

- I can't access the page for Singing Pretzel (it gives me "DOMDocument::loadXML()" warnings of the sort). I assume this happened when a lyrics tab was being added?

Could it one day be possible to set up quick links to YouTube channels for OCR members, or at least remixers?

By that, I mean something similar to how we have the links set up for Facebook, Myspace, Yahoo Messenger, ect. where they appear in the upper right corner of our posts in the user info bar (I don't know what the proper name for it is.)
