  1. I've caught a couple of SMD shows and enjoyed them. The album parties were especially good! I'll have to put the time down on my calendar.. --Eino
  2. I played a lot of Locomalito games. He makes "free, traditional games" - traditional meaning they have a lot of 80s/90s arcade flair about them, and are good for short but repeated playtimes. Good challenge, too. Not to mention excellent, excellent music, almost always by Gryzor87. I especially played Maldita Castilla, Endless Forms Most Beautiful (a PC remake of a ZX Spectrum game - from 2012!), They Came From Verminest and Gaurodan. All well worth checking out, watch the videos! I also played a few emulated Game Gear games on the NGage: Wonder Boy 3, Donald Duck in Lucky Dime Capers and Legend of Illusion. These were fun to play a bit each day with the daughter. WB3 is a long-time favourite of mine. Couldn't get Castle of Illusion to work, sadly. I played a ridiculous amount of OpenXCOM, which is a great reimplementation of the best game in the world - UFO: Enemy Unknown (or XCOM: UFO Defence in the States). I even contributed a few fixes to build problems on Linux. I got a Commodore C64 for birthday, and played some stuff on it, again with the daughter. I also played a bunch of RGCD/Psytronik releases on the C64 emulator: Soulless and Assembloids most come to mind (again, both good fun with the daughter). One of these days I'm going to order a bunch of cartridges from RGCD to play on the real machine. Also played a good bunch of FTL. And I probably forget some games. Having a Backloggery account was pretty good for making this post. --Eino
  3. Definitely get this guy on your track. Great vocals. --Eino
  4. My account is evktalo. --Eino
  5. Thanks for the comments on Clockwork Groove (on Youtube too!) and kudos for doing so many reviews in general!

  6. Thanks for the comment on Clockwork Groove! I'm glad you liked the old school style. There'll be more of that! :)

  7. Ahh, that makes sense! I didn't even think of FamiTracker/GoatTracker (Commodore 64) and the like. I'm only used to trackers that are primarily sample based (starting from Amiga). Well, what "trackers" in the end have in common is the UI, or really just the way notation is displayed/entered. That thought would be correct. (: But the sound really is just the samples loaded. Well, maybe also how the lead is sequenced especially in the first half, I tried to go for a very classic tracker-like sequencing in there. --Eino
  8. That's a cool reference, I think I can hear the Chinese feel there now that you mention it, but it never occurred to me before. But for the "tracker sounds" comment, you may be thinking of my Deus Ex UNATCO track where I wanted to make a polished track on old school low fidelity samples (via a Mazedude module). Trackers themselves can load up any sound (and use VSTis and whatnot) so trackers don't equate low fidelity. --Eino
  9. Well, the critique was spot on. But thankfully, a few mixing tweaks can go a long way! I had to raise the leads in the mix so they would actually be on top of the mix. I'm really glad the bar is as high as it is, as this track is much better for it. I'm proud to have been part of the excellent album, and very happy to see my track on the front page (with an embarrassingly long quote from the submission letter essay too)! --Eino
  10. Wow, so many episodes already, that's great! I'll sign up as a Star. I use Renoise tracker, in the unlikely event there's a Novice that uses one as well. I suppose I could mix stems. I'm not much of a production guy though, I'm more about the arrangement and source treatment. I also play guitar and stuff, although unspectacularly. --Eino
  11. It's live! --Eino
  12. Thanks for the review, I appreciate it! Kudos again for so many reviews!

  13. Thanks, Alex! I hope I can keep it going!

  14. Uploaded mine! And now I'm late for all sorts of other things. Oh well, had to get one in for the occasion. --Eino
  15. Got some work down, and I should have a few hours tomorrow. Going to be sparse, probably, but it's a track I've wanted to make for a while. Fun stuff! --Eino
  16. Sadevakio, my Deus Ex UNATCO mix, has passed the panel. Thanks eveyone who commented in the workshop! --Eino
  17. FFCC is proving to be a lot of fun & productivity, so I may be looking to enter this one too. Not quite sure if I have the time to commit though! --Eino
  18. I put together a source breakdown for "Luja". The Dark Messenger is transposed up a half-step, Lulu's theme is transposed down half a step. I've basically used only the melody from the source. Bass (and therefore the whole harmony) is rewritten. At points the result is a bit awkward and needs the melody to be rewritten a bit.. 0:00-0:17 Guitar and the descending bass are loosely the piano & pizzicato strings from Lulu's intro (0:00-0:14) 0:17-0:50 Guitar line in the center is the first melody from Lulu's theme (0:15-0:40) 0:50-1:06 Guitar line in the center is the second melody from Lulu's theme (1:09-1:33) 1:06-1:23 Guitar line in the center is the highest harmony of the organ intro from The Dark Messenger (rhythm is altered) (0:00-0:20). Played twice. 1:23-1:32 Guitars approximately follow 0:25-0:41 from The Dark Messenger (notably, the bass isn't followed). 1:32-1:40 Guitars approximately follow 0:55-1:02 from The Dark Messenger (again, the bass is not followed). 1:40-1:48 The guitar (on the left) supposedly follows the rhythm of the riff from TDM at 1:31-1:37 1:48-2:22 The riff on the left follows the previous rhythm and I think it's supposed to follow some chord structure from TDM, but I can't figure that out anymore. The guitar line in the center is an amalgam of the beginning of the first melody from Lulu's theme and the string motif that plays on top of the TDM riff (1:17-1:23). Too bad I didn't use the later variations of the motif anywhere.. 2:22-2:38 2nd melody from Lulu's again. 2:38-2:55 The first line from TDM's intro again. 2:55-3:29 The guitar on the left is of course playing THE riff from The Dark Messenger (1:01-1:15). Guitar in the center is playing the same figure as in 1:48-2:22 except twice as fast. 3:30-3:37 The bit where the TDM riff descends (1:26-1:33) is played by the right guitar. 3:37-3:54 Theoretically, the right guitar plays the subsequent chord & rhythm from TDM. The second melody from Lulu's theme is played on top of it. Results may vary. 3:54-4:27 The second melody from Lulu's again, twice this time. 4:27-4:46 Back to the intro material, first with the descending figure on bass + the guitar on the right, & then the intro guitar in the center. That should be it! --Eino
  19. Well, I didn't get to pad it with keyboards, the drum variations stop midway through, and there's a few sour notes on the guitar.. but I'm really happy with it considering. Midway through the night I felt desperate and in a dead end, but then I let the piece itself take charge and lead the way to unexpected places. That usually works. Need to sleep now though so this'll have to do. Sending the WAV to Brandon in a minute. --Eino
  20. Spooky, but lucrative. This! The most festive of Mega Man's adversaries. Happy birthday! --Eino
  21. He he, thanks for the confidence in me, Brandon. I just, again, stayed up the whole night and got a complete thing together, all the guitars recorded, if shabbily. Might still add a little keyboard, so I'm not sending it in just yet. I'll warn ya though, plenty of conflicting notes and stuff, since I simply didn't have the time (or the skill) to figure them out. Yech. I'll do that post-compo, now I just wanted to manage a complete-ish piece. --Eino
  22. I haven't had the time I said I'd have, of course, but I've figured out some fun stuff on the guitar. Not sure if it'll be a complete arrangement, but I'll put together what I have. --Eino
  23. I don't think you can spoil a baby by carrying her too much. On the contrary, the more security and closeness she'll load up now, more confidence and trust in her place in the world she'll have. Oh and if she's smiling, it's not gas. She's smiling. Enjoy it! --Eino
