One of the major criticisms of most of my WIPs has been that the drums suck... namely, that they need more fills. So I've been practicing. I think I'm getting better, but I know I've got a long ways to go. I like the idea of celebrating a "birthmonth", as I (and probably many others) won't be available on the actual birthday.

Gonna go see a movie, hang out with some friends, and possibly play some tabletop RPGs for a bit. I'll probably go shopping tomorrow. Black Friday is evil, and I specifically got off of work for it. I had to work yesterday, but it was totally worth it.

Really? It's been two years? I seems like only a few months ago... I didn't know the guy, but even though it sounds weird, I felt like I knew him through his music. Still get kinda sad thinking that he's gone.

Whoa. NNY. Where the hell have you been? Unfortunately though, this really isn't just a game industry thing. If you ask me, it's the reason behind DVD region coding, and those "not for sale outside of X country" labels on a lot of textbooks. There's really little reason to pay that kind of price tag... just import it.

I won't make any claims about what the purpose of these two sites ACTUALLY are about, but rather I'll state my perceptions of what they APPEAR to be about. Here's the way I see it: Since I started visiting OCR back in '01, my impression of the site is that its purpose is to showcase high-quality video game remixes to the public. While there are some useful WIP functions (and they have been improving too), the focus is on what the judges panel passes. VGMix, seemed to focus on WIPs and helping people improve their mixes via its community. Yes, you could go there, just download the top rated songs and call it a day, but the focus was on reviews and improvement. Obviously there is crossover. While both have showcasing and WIP-review features, OCR is better at showcasing, and VGMix was better at WIPs... or to overgeneralize, OCR's specialty is on the listener, while VGMix was on the artist. Both sites were decent at both jobs, they just each had they're own forte. It's my opinion, that while the Workshop forum improvements discussed here are great (I really like them and I'm looking forward to making use of them if implemented), OCR will never be as good at WIPs as VGMix, unless it becomes the MAIN focus of the site... which frankly, I think would be a very bad thing. This is why a site like VGMix is needed, IMO. Not to replace OCR, but to complement her. I've always gone to OCR for the high-quality stuff (and I'm much more active over here than I ever was at VGMix), but VGMix was always a much more helpful when it came to improving my skillz.

I'm not saying I agree with his decision, but it is his to make (no matter how poor of a decision I think it is). I study filmmaking and do a lot of other AV and music stuff on the side. One thing I can tell you is that the creative world is chalk-full of perfectionists who like to do everything themselves instead of delegating, even if they NEED to delegate. I've never talked to the guy, but virt seems like he's that type of person. I'm not trying to rag on him (I have to fight it sometimes, because I'm that type as well), I'm just saying I think I understand where he's coming from.

Okay, so let's say I was going to this. Can someone give me the rundown of the various expenses and roughly how much cash I would need? (I'm poor).

If I recall, I believe the reason virt hasn't passed on the torch to someone else is that he's still rather attached to the site and has plans for it. It's just that those plans aren't getting implemented due to his schedule.

This looks pretty cool. Is there any chance for any kind of WIP feature like VGMix had? I miss that about VG Mix.

ITT: "I play as females because I promote gender equality." "I play as females because I'm horny and like girlbutts." "I/you play as males/females because I'm/you're gay." I'm going to show my nerd here. If I'm designing a character, I'll generally come up with a personality and a backstory beforehand, so gender pretty much matches whatever idea feels the most inspired (like Undead Cyborg Abe Lincoln in the trial for City of Villains). In video games, I'd say it's 50/50 girls/guys... in table top games (if those are considered part of the discussion too) it's about 10/90 girls/guys, because getting into character as the opposite sex is difficult and weirds some people out. In fighting games, I play whoever's stats I like best, though that's often females because I prefer speed over power (Chun Li, Samus, and Seung Mina FTW).

Those have to be some of the best Halloween costumes evar. I'm going as Injury next year. oh wait.

Well if it's too difficult to play, one could always go through and "humanize" it note by note. It would be a bit of a pain, but people do it with drum tracks all the time.

So I'm gone for a few days, and when I come back, the sidebar is gone. Maybe I missed something obvious here, but WTF happened? Was the whole sidebar thing just an elaborate ruse to get all the unmod overreacters to leave the site? Am I going to get the banhammer for not liking the new sidebarless design? (BTW, I'm fine with the site design sidebar or not. I'm just going to have to get used to the change.)

Maybe he could sample baby cries and autotune them... it could be a remix of Carlie's theme from Seiken Densetsu 3 or something. Anyways, mega-congrats.

I for one, actually enjoy Jack Black and find that he plays a big part in my interest toward the game.
