I haven't seen a thread about STO so I guess I'll start. I don't know how many of you are into Star Trek or have even heard about the MMO that's releasing the end of this month, but I'm pretty excited to start playing. I was gonna explain gameplay stuff but I'd rather not ramble. Yeah my memory failed a bit there. Though I still got 64-bit Windows 7 Professional when it came out for $30. Still a pretty good deal even if the specs are bleh. It still plays the games so I'm not complaining.

I'm playing games like L4D2 just fine on this laptop with a 9800m GT 512mb in it. Its processor is pretty crappy too, Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz but I got the whole package for $650 about a year ago.

Basically what Rozovian said. Convert at least 120kbps or greater. VBR is always a good choice too and you can choose the minimum bit rate in any converter that the author spent more than 5 minutes coding.

You should try Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Device Manager and see what the names of the devices are under: display adapters network adapters keyboards mice and other pointing devices sound, video, and game controllers Make sure you get your network adapter drivers BEFORE you reformat. Also, Windows 7 has inherent generic driver support for a lot of hardware, but still, it's better to be safe.

Brad is right. When my external with all my music crapped out on me my only backup was my iPod. Pulled off all the songs and had iTunes "keep my music folder organized". It rewrote all the file names back to its standard format (eg. 01 Song Title in folder Artist > Album)

I LOVE Pandora Box. It tells you when paid apps are on sale for a reduced price or even for free. If you have an app that you really want, but don't want to pay the current price, you can bookmark it in Pandora Box and it will notify you when it goes on sale. I got Convert Bot for unit conversions, it's normally $0.99 (I got it for free when I saw it on Pandora Box!) I don't know if you're studying Japanese or anything, but there's a Japanese dictionary app called Kotoba! that's free. It translates to and from Japanese in several different languages. One of the very first apps I got and has helped me immensely in my Japanese language studies. I also find that many people are interested in battery life apps and flashlight apps. I use Battery LED for battery life and Lamp CL for my flashlight. Battery LED gives you estimates for battery life under several different conditions, like gaming, wifi, music playback etc. and doesn't look bad, like several other battery apps, while doing it. Lamp CL is really simple, it just lights up the entire screen in a color you choose.

Really just 30 hours to 80? That's almost worse than the level 20 cap in Guild Wars. A year and a half ago it took me 14 days of actual playtime over a 3 week period to hit 62 when I was just starting out with my free month.

I haven't been too excited about L4D2 even when it was announced but that trailer just got me interested.

Even though I hate grinding (just killing monsters for me), I can tolerate doing it with friends. Sometimes if I have to grind alone I'll watch a movie on my second monitor which makes the time fly by.

I play Perfect World International (apparently gm'd by the same company that does Ether Saga Online) and I say that PWI's community makes WoW's community look like a cute puppy dog (excuse the analogy type that you oh so hate). Honestly, I view trolling as part of the game. Most people in my game get butthurt and shittalk over everything. People pay 10 cents to chat in World Chat for every message but they do it to troll. Just remember none of this is serious business and find a nice guild to play with. You'll end up having a good time regardless of the assholes.

Looks terrible at my resolution (1920x1200) on a 24" monitor. The dark grey background is right in the middle of a good contrast (or lack of.) Something that's closer to the light grey at the bottom would work a bit better near the top. The logo in particular is hard to see against the dark grey. Forums are ok because the page is almost full even at this resolution. And yes, I know you wanted us to use the site for a couple days but my opinions here are not going to change; I'm not going to be able to see the logo any better tomorrow or a week from now, and I've always hated empty space on the sides of webpages.
