  1. This is just a rough draft but an idea I had while fiddling around with some hip hop/lo-fi sounding fonts. Feedback, ideas, if anyone wants to rap to this? I'm not done with it yet, but I'll hopefully get the full thing done soon. ReMix: Mario World - Map/Star Power Themes ReMix Source: Map Star Power
  2. Here I am toying again with an old Lemmings song: Remaking it with Fruity Loops. So far drums are looping but the soundscape is taking shape https://app.box.com/s/z5xw1eqhjk7vj85lt463ojhxg8y8c2mr Feedback is always welcome. Hope you enjoy anyway
  3. This mix is very early on at the time of this post and is actually missing some things I wanted to do with it, but I'd also like to know if it's really worth pursuing. This is actually a project that's been sitting on my hard drive in various forms (all of them very unfinished) since around 2009, I think? I feel like it needs some countermelody right now; being locked into the same chord progression the whole track is kind of boring, it's WAY too close to the original piece in a lot of ways, and production hasn't even been addressed yet other than some really basic compression and EQing. After listening through a few times I have also just decided that I don't like the drum samples I'm using all that much. Plus there's a section where I just kind of randomly noodled on a keyboard and it doesn't make a ton of sense. Oh well. Thoughts? Link to WIP Original theme
  4. Hey OC Remix community! I am still improving my production and composition skills with the little time that I dedicate to writing and producing. I am hoping that get some input that will help this remix be appropriate for submission! As a caveat, I do plan on recording a few classical instrument performances (I play the clarinet) and I will humanize the piece a lot when I near completion of the piece. I also have not "master mixed" the piece. However, I think that this piece is coming along nicely. I intended for this piece to mix classical with electronic elements (there are two synths). Phantasy Star IV's music does this well so I wanted to also incorporate that into this remix. I also am mashing two pieces of music into one remix because the first song I chose was a bit thin on length (content). The two pieces have a similar vibe and they are Requiem for Lutz and The Age of Fables. I would consider this approximately 55% done but that's a rough estimate. I don't know how much more can be done exactly but there are a number of ideas floating around in my head (got a head ache). Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. 5. Submitted this for MnP and I'm wondering if it has some potential. Fire away. Original:
  6. As one of my favorite video game composers, I had to remix a Naoki Kodaka ("Blaster Master"/"Batman"/"Raf World") piece at some point. Here's something I'm currently working on, inspired by one of many beautiful tracks taken from Sunsoft's SEGA Saturn RPG -- "Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean": It's still drafty, but feel free to share feedback and advice while friends and I work on arrangements and lyrics writing EDIT: Lyrics (ver. 1.0) are now available in the SoundCloud description of the track.
  7. 2018 UPDATE: It is still in Musescore 2, but I'm taking a decisive turn towards an orchestral version instead of EDM. I hope to be able to finish it one of these days because this is taking me forever. Most of the mix is done. I'm stuck at the end due to a thing with the soundfont, and I was hoping to do a new section in between somewhere. https://soundcloud.com/user-227517766/folly-fire-2018-orchestral-update-wip I'm unsure about the transitions. At first they didn't sound right, but after a while I got used to it and I started to think its okay. I could use someone's fresh perspective on it. Previous UPDATE: FL Studio Version Hello, I'm a new user here and I would like to share a remix that I am working on with you guys and ask some basic feedback about the project in its current stage of development. Before jumping in, please consider the follow comments, to get an idea of where I am coming from and what I'm trying to accomplish. I am looking for feedback on some specific points. Tracks Used So I tried to combine a number of BGM's from the classic Gameboy game 'Volley Fire'. During development I noticed some easy to make connections with snippets from Starfox's Corneria theme, so I put those in as well. That gets us the following list: Stage Select (VF) Stage A (VF) Stage B (VF) Corneria (SF) I wanted to at least give the old source tunes a sound update and create a progressively expanding scene, adding more instruments, driven by a nice beat. I initially started playing around on the piano, going on my memory of the original tracks, but soon found out my memory was slightly off. But this created some nice variation that makes it a more true remix. What I'd Like Feedback On You should know that I have only started making music since november 2014. I have made a number of private compositions since, and this would be my second "completed" video game remix. I do not have professional music making software, but rather am using MuseScore2, which is a notation program. For that reason, I am not looking for feedback on the quality of sounds and instrument samples. I know these are lacking. Mastering is not too much of a concern at this point either, because the program isn't made to do that. Until I can invest in something like Fruity Loops, I want to limit the scope to other areas: Does the overall composition work? Do you think the transitions between sections are alright, or are they too sudden or weird? What would be a good way to transition them nicely so that it feels like a whole? Is the total length alright? Does the track have enough variety, keeping it interesting enough to listen to from beginning to end? What do you think of my use of the source material? Is it 'remixy' enough? I realize that sound quality and mastering might effect how you answers some of these questions, but hopefully this will be useful enough anyway. Thanks for taking the time to listen and respond! Looking forward to learning from you guys and becoming a better musician in the process. Remix Link Find the track on SoundCloud here: https://soundcloud.com/user-227517766/folly-fire-volley-fired-feedback-ready I'm naming it either "Folly Fire" or "Volley Fire'd", probably preferring the first. 8. It's basically nearly complete, I just need a way to increase the lyrics volume without making it's own backtrack overshadow mine, in which you can't hear the originals track at all. Thanks for listening!
  9. Heard my roommate playing one of the asteroid levels the other day and I heard a lot of potential for this one track. Let me know what you think of it, I'm particularly proud of the solo
  10. Hi everyone - I tried to mash up the FF6 Airship theme from the World of Ruin with Frog's theme from Chrono Trigger. This was a tricky remix, since individually these songs are stylistically independent. But I played the melodies over each other, and thought that it was a great enough fit to try a remix. I experimented a lot with different instruments for leads, especially for Frog's theme. Normally I would never use a trumpet but here, it felt just right! Hope you guys enjoy it!! Any feedback appreciated, good or bad. Always willing to learn to get better Remix Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opa-ADmpmsU Source (FF6 Searching for friends): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnvZ6Dqv7Ws Source (Chrono Trigger Frog's Theme): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yp7PYi5b8jg
  11. I've made the track using Default VST's just tweaked enough to sorta emulate the vibe of the original instrumentation. Hopefully you enjoy it. That's what I want to achieve. Last Update: After some revisions and taking feedback into consideration, This track is being labeled W.I.P. until I get a new version done. (it's gonna take a while.) Original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uX0hU7jQ5O4 The NYC Streets Break or Tabla Break has a tempo change and some changes in the strings chords to complement the piece in general and I didn't want it to sound like a medley. https://youtu.be/RgIE6Pb_MFE?t=51s And finally I threw in UNATCO's main melody in the very end. https://youtu.be/nBPK_oXeJgA?t=22s
  12. This is a remix of "Cave 2" (Might and Magic 5: Dark side of Xeen). I originally did a similar mix for PRC. I switched the cowbells for bongos and added an Indian Raga drone in the background. I work hard on my remixes and like to make soundscapes with emphasis on melody, weird extra percussion, looping repetition, and slightly abrupt endings. Tell me what you guys think and how it can be improved. I may also put another mix on here later. Piece being remixed (for reference) Enjoy
  13. Recently, a mix I posted back when I knew very little about production was just recently reviewed by the judges, and I'm fixing the issues that were prevelant. Knowing what I know now, I hope I can fix all the issues and resubmit it. Reviewed Mix: New Mix (In fixing progress): The Boss is Back in Town ReMix Source: If anybody could compare the original to the new remix and see if you think I improved on the judges critiques or not, that would be awesome. Thanks to anybody offering insight! (I'm not done with arrangement or production just yet.)
  14. It's pretty simple so I thought I'd do a quick and dirty record of the guitars, but I'm not sure where to go with it from here. Maybe thinking of transitioning into Wart's theme or just ending it with a end level jingle but I'm not sure.
  15. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1cNg5GTkCUINGRTS3dPdGpfb1E A collection of different takes on many Zelda themes. Far from complete. Track list as of now: "My take/version" of the theme from Breath of the Wild/ a bit of "Legendary Hero" from Wind Waker and nearly the entire title theme from Twilight Princess Intro to "Ballad of the Goddess" from Skyward Sword "Midna's Desperate Hour" (With custom chords!) from Twilight Princess "Dawn" and "Great Sea" from Wind Waker (Possibly the most "out there" version. Reviews are welcome. I dare say that this is my best work yet. Timing is off to make it more alive.
  16. Hi! I have made a new remix of Chemical Plant Zone from Sonic 2 on one of my new Synthesisers. Pretty much it's my first time using a real live Synth and I've been remixing tracks and recording my own original material as well as I pretty much usually stick to Keyboards. This current remix I made is from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 of Chemical Plant Zone. I decided i'd like to share it with the site. I recorded all of this in just one take, so I understand there needs to be room for improvement although I like the overall track. I will need to record the drums again, and I may have to re-record a few things as well as add in extra detail. I'd also really like to hear what you all think of the current version and If I need any improvements or whatever please feel free to give me feedback, I can take it. I am looking forward to hearing your suggestions about further improving this track and please enjoy it if possible. Also if there are any more instruments you want in this I will be happy to include. Thanks ! https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9gqeKAiRDxoRnljZWdNS0NhQTg/view *UPDATE* I have an updated re recorded version here with a whole bunch of added material, it sounds more exciting than the original version I remixed, enhanced melody,, added extra harmony, even re-recorded the drums and added an orchestral section! https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9gqeKAiRDxoVC1XTXZGalRYLXM/view?usp=sharing
  17. Master 'D' is for 'Dance' (Upgraded from the Album) Ah, this old gem (yes, from the old Bionic Commando album). Funny fact about it - I've never been satisfied with what I put on the album. It was too quiet, and it had a few issues with some of the drums being too quiet, etc., so some time after the album was released I did some work on it, keeping in mind what the judges said about it during eval. Then tragedy struck - computer melted, had to downgrade. While I was about 95% done with my track adjustments and I didn't lose anything significant (I was actively working on this track when my comp melted down, so the last finishing touches were not saved), I actually was unable to playback the track on Reason with my weaker computer (it just immediately says "Not enough ram for playback"), so I've been sitting on this one ever since. That was 2013. Today, I want to let it go, submit and be done with it. I think I can take care of individual elements by muting tracks, working on lines one at a time, etc., but I can't compare in my DAW and see how things sound overall. I want to see if anyone on here has some suggestions on what I can improve further before submission. I can still hear a few things (the reverb is amazingly heavy in this, the bass swells too fast, etc.), but this is something that's been stuck in production hell for me since early 2009 (no, it's really that old - this is an older version of the same track from 2009 - 2010!) - I need some fresh ears to help out a bit. Any and all help is appreciated!
  18. Here is a remix of the probably most famous music on the Tetris game. Hope yo like it.
  19. This time I've taken a very underrated tune from a underrated megaman series Something about cold man's music really struck since I kinda if have a thing for snow levels in games. Any this time around I've wanted to take the route of trying to remaster the track and note do anything too crazy. I've expirement with the stereo settings in Fl(I never knew they even exsisted) and I think it really makes sounds more fatter and spread out. It's the first track I've made that utilized this.
  20. This was one of those "pause and listen" tracks for me. The combination of the light-and-dark visuals and this dark, reverberating track caught me so off-guard in the best possible way. My brain was in a very Castlevania place...and out came this wild idea to take a slow, piano-heavy piece and make it high energy with Baroque-ish elements (sort of? I don't know what I'm talking about :P) Anyway, here's "Crescendo of Echoes". It's been through the editing process enough times to fry my brain. I'd appreciate any feedback you have!
  21. Hi everyone! I'm currently working on a remix of DDD from SM64. I actually played the melody from memory, so it might sound a bit different than the original. It's still unfinished (hence the abrupt ending lol). I didn't do much in terms of mixing, so i guess it will need some work in that regard too. 22. What's up folks? Dex here. I've been playing live music for about 20 years but I'm pretty new to making music on a computer. I've always thought that Final Fantasy Legend II had an incredible battle theme, so I decided to learn more about computer music by remixing it! The remix is mostly in a metal style, but I change it up a bit toward the end. I'm planning on adding a little bit more to it and ending it in a metal style, but before I work on that I'm curious if anyone has any feedback on the work I've done so far. The first couple of seconds of the remix are from the overworld theme that you hear in the game right before you get into a battle, btw. Source material (overworld theme): Source material (battle theme): Current draft (Soundcloud compression damages the audio quality a bit, but I think the main ideas come through):
  23. Was looking for feedback on this arrangement I did of The Last Soul from Streets of Rage. Before this arrangement, I had never done jazz/hip-hop fusion before. It was a very interesting and awesome experience :). I want to do more with SoR with live band and such. Any suggestions for this? As always thank you for taking the time to listen!
  24. Hi. It been a long time that I work on a remix track. You'll find here WIP Double Dragon 2 intro maint theme with an orchestral arrangment. I have to fix a lot of things but you'll probably see where I want to go. Original source. Arrangment.
  25. I've always loved the soundtracks from Mega Man X series and it was also one of my favorite games. Got inspired and decided to try some Metal arranges for the tracks in this game. I know it's been done a lot, but rock/metal just fits soo well with the Megaman series. Hoping to get some feedback/thoughts for this track. Would love to hear what y'all think about the arrangement and instrumentation as this is some areas of improvement for me. The mixing part is not done yet and no eq and effects on the drums. Original I'm also working on more tracks from Mega Man X 1 and hope to compile those to make an album. Hope y'all enjoy it >:) \m/
