OC ReMix plagiarism: report it here!

Well, when it comes time for the mods to evaluate the track if it goes into the system as it is it'll be rejected for being very stale, for sure, so I don't think it'll get anywhere on the site. If the original mixer still uses his e-mail you could contact him about it, but good luck with that.

I don't see any policy on VGmusic.com that states that the person CANNOT use the midis in such a manner (unlike OCR), so I don't think he's legally bound to give credit to anybody. However, letting the original arranger know that he's using the track as such is certainly the right thing to do.

Someone I've never heard of before sent me a PM on IRC and sent me a link to someone who is claiming my music as their own:

luls

Edit: I saw that he had 133 songs, so I went through a few at random. Shit ton of renamed OCR tracks, including:

(ooooooooooldie)

His Mario Symphony is actually the recording done by the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Kosuke Onozaki, from the Orchestral Game Concert collection, namely volume 1. How do I know this?

It's one of my most listened to songs. I can tell the exact version just by listening to it.

His "Rebirth" is from the Evangelion soundtrack. It's obvious as hell.

Hah, that's a wide range of genres. Quite the talented mofo. And he stole our tune as well. Very nice.

Greetings, all... I've been ploughing through several of the internet's collections of game remixes for a while (for a side project I assist with), and recently thought I'd mine Newgrounds... only to discover that it seems to consist mostly of music taken from other locations.

The following tracks all appear to be stolen directly from OCRemix. I could be wrong, and I thought I'd post here so more informed folks could determine whether these were all improperly credited or not.

http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/332741

sounds like Super Mario Bros. 3 Battle Rocks OC ReMix

http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/203972 AND http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/284857

sound like Super Mario Bros Super Jungle Brothers OC ReMix

sounds like Super Mario RPG Waltz of Pain OC ReMix

http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/77244

Sounds like Super Mario World Ghosts of the Marble Hall OC ReMix

http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/275552

Sounds like Super Mario Bros. 2 SuperBuck Jazz OC ReMix

http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/89587

Sounds like Super Mario Bros. Da Pipes OC ReMix

Some of these are still on newgrounds.

Wonder what happened to David.

With all the obvious shit up there (as well as a few less obvious ones - strangely enough, I remember hearing that Link + Sinistrals tune somewhere before...), I think Soundclick is keeping him up there, for the lulz.

Well, to be fair, he doesn't say it was his remix. He just didn't credit it properly. So unless he did, and changed/removed any claims stating so recently, I don't know if you can call it plagiarism.

He claims it as his in the comments.

Kyle, did you report it to YouTube? As you know I reported that one girl for using my fanart without credit and they pwned her account, so I imagine if you report this guy they'll pwn his account as well.

Yeah, it says right at the beginning of the video, "Tales of Symphonia Like a Glint of Light Power Remix by GiulerPowerGamer," and he then proceeds to proclaim in the comments that it is his remix.

I just looked through the rest of this guys' videos, and it turns out that he's also done the same with a number of other tracks from SoS. Very interesting...

Also a couple of Super Metroid remixes in there which are likely not his.

I was considering the possibility of him using the word remix as pertaining to the video, not the music.

So he didn't do the vid, he didn't do the music... and his logo/intro is a bit... awesome in that 3-yearold "im a *dinosaur lion" kind of font mashup... way. His channel profile says he's 21, German with poor English skills, brooding (judging from his color scheme), and teenager enough to not admit defeat despite being dumb enough to rip off not just ocr but also SSBB.

Should we provide the kid with lots of friendly advice from older and wiser denizens of the internet... publicly? Or should we confuse him with Sixto and everybody else he's been ripping off... repeatedly and publicly?

*) my mom's daycare kids apparently thought being a dinosaur or a lion wasn't badass enough.
