  1. Yeah, SRD was an alias I used for a while to try different styles without people telling me to "go back to trance". It got a little out of hand after a while, and when I joined the staff I felt it was wrong to keep the ruse going any longer. Just in case anyone wonders, I didn't use SRD to circunvent PRC rules, I was participating regularly as both srd and sn, but I never selected a song for the other alias to remix if I won a round. I simply skipped the next round if I ever won. After a while, stuff I was doing as srd seeped into sn so it was really pointless since both were very close in style by the end. Sorry for the shenanigans, but srd did help me broaden my styles to the point where I'm not the trance guy anymore.

  2. I'll probably give this a shot, I need to think about what songs could be interesting to remix.

  6. Hey guys, I've been working on a game for the last 2 years and we're in need of at least one more composer. Before I lose your interest, you can check out a video of the game in action at the link below: If I had to quickly sum things up, I'd say it's like... -a virtual world come to life, with a character driven story -entirely hand drawn 2D animation -gameplay that evokes platformers like Mega Man Zero and Kirby Superstar... -but also fighting games like SF: Third Strike, Marvel 3, and Guilty Gear. -with a heavy emphasis on a team of playable characters that are entirely unique from one another. If you'd like to learn a bit more about the story and characters, you can check out my patreon over here: https://www.patreon.com/hybridmink?ty=h ---------------------------------------------------- You might notice the music in the background of the video above. It was composed by Rozen, who's on board for composing some of the more epic and dramatic pieces in the game. We're also working with the Cynic Project who's posted a couple mixes on OCR before. He's handling the more electronic and trance pieces. However, at least half of Rudra's music needs to rock. Something along the lines of Mega Man and Sonic with some punk and metal mixed in. After speaking with both artists, we decided that we basically need a guitarist. While I definitely have some people in mind, I've found over the past couple years that it's better to reach out to a community that I love and actually find people that really want to work with you. So I of course turn to OCR, the site that's provided a substantial chunk of my music collection for the past 15 years. If you are interested at all, please let me know by replying in this thread or simply emailing me at: hybridmink (at) gmail (dot) com I'd love to talk to anyone interested, though I'd just ask that you provide a couple examples of your previous work. Full disclosure, we are planning on having a kickstarter in August. The goal is to have at least one more track (on top of what Rozen and Cynic Alex are working on) ready for the trailer. Thanks for reading this far and I hope to hear from you soon! If you have any questions about the game, characters, or scope, don't hesitate to ask. -Nick

  7. In theory, we're supposed to judge every ReMix in a vacuum and completely ignore any knowledge about the artist, what he/she is capable of, etc. That's a great goal, and we strive towards it, but it is sometimes difficult. Case in point: this submission. We know Brandon is capable of great things, but something is very wrong here... even if this had been submitted under a pseudonym, with zero biases involved, I can safely say that the criticisms would have been the same. The production here is muddy, details get lost, and while the arrangement is *nice*, it's not inventive enough (nor would ANY arrangement potentially be) to turn a blind eye to the whole thing teetering on the brink of incoherence. I dig the idea of an orchestral rock arrangement of this theme, but somewhere on the road to that dream, things got compressed/mastered to hell, with none of the individual parts playing nice with one another. It's a hard genre to mix because of the twin terrors of getting the rock/metal mastering down and THEN getting the orchestral bits down and THEN making sure they complement one another, but it NEEDS to be done well. I've heard Brandon do it well, too. I wouldn't approve this mix if it were from an unfamiliar artist, and thus I won't approve it from Brandon, either. NO

  9. Ok I just literally voted on another Jorito mix of this same source. Ok then! I have the same complaint on this one as I did on the other, and that is that the mixing isn't that clean, even on the updated version. There is a lot going on in the mids and mid-highs nearly full time. Whatever happens with this track, I recommend you spend some time really learning mixing, that is what I have recently done. I have been studying with bLiNd and also researching techniques and practicing on my own, and it has made a HUGE difference in my production. I recommend this for you (if not paid lessons, at least do some online training with youtube or whatnot), because your arrangements are quite good! Learn how to process lows, how to emphasize highs, how to arrange your soundstage, reverb/delay staging etc., it will make a big difference. The strings playing the lead after the intro are not that strong, the attacks are too long to make a solid lead there. The DnB drums are cool but they are repetitive, and they sound weak and crispy, no impact. You've got a growly timbre playing in the background in the mix that doesn't do anything (for me anyway) except make it sound lo-fi. If you're going to use growly timbres, they need to be mixed in such a way that they make a statement. Once the wubs come in, they are really nice, it would be good if they really shined, even as a backing element. Wow, the guitar lead part is great. Good use of vocal clips. Great arrangement and writing. So many fun things going on in this mix. I'm being a bit hard on you because I sense that you're right at that border between good and great, just spend some time learning mixing and you'll be there. YES

  10. My schedule is clogged as well. It would be fun otherwise. I still listen to my rRPC vol. 1 pieces and think I should finish them & submit to OCR.

  12. Sorry guys, I won't be able to join due to quite a backlog of other OCR commitments. I really love the concept and like a compo just as much as the next person, it's just that the timing isn't good for me.

  13. Making some good progress. Muaha. is what I'd say if I was actually competing.. Nonetheless, it's coming along nicely. Looking forward to some good mixes this round.

  14. I've talked with RiverSound and after X many years without movement from Kate (mostly due to vocal issues, very unfortunate) the time has finally come to face REALITY and move on with the Key Song, Elia's Theme. As a result I've asked RiverSound for help. No pressure at all, and it is not expected to be in the same style or format. This move should help to ensure that the album actually gets done and doesn't just sit here like @Lucavi00 at the all-you-can-eat buffet I'm going to get progress on my songs, and try to get in touch with the last remaining people here.

  15. Just so I know I've seen people say not to arrange the mixes too much for MnP, but what if I wanted to make a proper remix? For example I would kind of want to make an electronic thing with auto tune vocals, kind of one of those hip people songs.. so it'd be different from the original, that is if I even enter 2 weeks is NOT a lot of wiggle room..I could easily see not being able to hit the deadline

  17. Last time I did this compo as a villain. I'll play as a goody-do-gooder hero this time. Here's my list: “Dragon Age Origins” - “Leliana” and “Leliana's Song” - “Hero” “Tales of Phantasia” - “Mint” and “Mint's Theme” - “Hero” “Final Fantasy IV” - “Rydia” and “Rydia's Theme” - “Hero”

  18. For nitpicks, at 2:26, I know the percussion was a slightly different texture than before, but boy did the presentation feel samey with the wind lead and overall energy. Then at 3:01, the string work felt like it was repeating again. The rise in the tempo for the close around 3:45 was odd, but not something I'd dock the piece for. I see what people criticizing the lack of dynamic contrast are saying on some level, even if I'm more with Palpable that the overall development was fine, and Nutritious had great points in his NO. That said, I had DragonAvenger's overall POV. I'm not impressed with the realism of the instrumentation, but the tone and quality's solid enough to get by, and the arrangement of Dragon Roost is certainly interpretive. I felt the issues that could be addressed would merely make a good thing better, but that the bar's just a bit too high if something like this doesn't pass; that's not an argument I'd die on a hill on with this specific example, but the issues here aren't dealbreakers for me at all. 19. Now that we've switched over to Invision for our forum software, we're going to start making more use of the tools it provides. One thing that I've always wanted to have for competitions was a calendar on the site where we can list relevant competition dates. Invision has a pretty great calendar application, so I've set one up. http://ocremix.org/community/calendar/2-competitions/ If you're a competition runner, you can now add your event dates (such as start and stop date/times for mixing and voting stages, due dates, etc.) to the calendar. Right now I have it set up so that any event submitted to the competitions calendar requires a moderator approval. I'll be checking my moderator control panel regularly for stuff to approve, but if you don't see your event pop up after about a day, contact me and I'll see what I can do. We might eventually put together a user group of the regular competition runners that can bypass moderation, but since this is new I want to keep an eye on things so that it doesn't get crazy. If you have any questions, let me know.
