I admit it's a little daunting. Wanted to enter, due to the theme resonating with my current predicament, but I'd have had to sign as a novice since I haven't produced music in over a year. From what I read, there are generally more novices than stars. Then, I would have needed to find someone with the same DAW, in the same timezone, with the same availabilities and willing/kind enough to lend me their help/ears. Not to mention the usual time constraint associated with compos. That's a pretty high barrier of entry, imho. But then again, maybe it's just a matter of timing/scheduling, to give everyone the chance to get together and collab. So don't get discouraged MindWanderer. True. It's hard to get a grasp of what's going on without a clear overlay of who's involved and/or paired with. ^ This. Hopefully the sign-ups will be more plentiful, and the timing more favorable.

Proly should mention that the whole... ...isn't working too well. Tried it for the last PRC but ended up having to ask Bundeslang for assistance uploading my track over there. Still can't access my account or vote. Hoping this can get resolved somehow, cause I don't wanna be anymore of a burden for you guys. Much appreciated, sir. Yeah, I definitely wanted to give credit were due, because the hard work that goes into managing compos and transcribing tunes to midi is too often overlooked. No time like the present. Give it a go, see where it leads you. Well, you'll be glad to know the MMZ3 last round wasn't my kind of tune at all either. But then again, that's what the PRC is all about: pushing us to step out of our comfort zone.

Seems you're going for a bombastic orchestra sound, which is a good way to preserve the energetic feel of the original. The problem with going all out is that, as Eino mentioned, you run the risk of becoming repetitious and have elements overpowering/overshadowing others. I wouldn't worry about it if you had like 3 or 4 minutes of material, but with a little over a minute, I believe it's worth looking into. That said, I do hear the more subdued break coming at 1:02, so I've hope you'll keep things varied, both in intensity and complexity. Last but not least: you've got some nice samples. Try to make them shine by humanizing a bit more (writting, velocity, articulations) so that the piece comes off a little less stiff. You're off to a great start here, so keep at it. Looking forward to seeing how this one develops.

That extension is a blessing. Here's hoping I can spare a couple hours tomorrow to get my retired-ass back in the game.

Surprised no one bumped this after release day. Picked it up last saturday and t'was a blast to listen to, from start to finish. Perfect getaway was the perfect opportunity for me to catch up on Mike's work, and a testament to his versatility and proficiency as a musician. Icing on the cake: slick album artwork that perfectly compliments an undeniably polished audio package.

Assuming it's your very first try at remixing: HAVE FUN! That's the single most important thing to keep in mind, not just when starting out. Whatever you do, don't pressure yourself. I'd recommend picking a song you really enjoy and can listen to over and over. Because you'll be doing a lot of that while analyzing structure, chord progressions and the like. Don't overthink things: make your choice and get started! Create, experiment, share your work and receive/give feedback. Even if you don't finish 100% of what you start. The idea is to get some experience, and through this process get to know your strengths and weaknesses, so you can build up on that knowledge, and get better. On that subject, compos (short for composition-competition) are a good place to get a feel for things, meet cool folks, and make progress whilst testing your might.

Definitely getting that 80's, slow-mo montage vibe from it. I'll let the source loop for a bit to see if it sparks inspiration for a remix...

Now there's an underrated game! Really neat choice there Mike. Traditional Japanese folk will give this album a unique flavor too. Looking forward to this!

Source is too close to my own style (orchestral + ethnic) for comfort, not to mention Yokota's amazing score would be near impossible to top. That being said, there's a SMG project recruiting in the R&C forums. Might be cool to tie this round to it, if source is still open. Just a thought.

YES! So many great classics on this console, yet it's really nice to see the underrated titles getting some luv too. The PS1 is linked to so many timeless gaming memories. Will be following this tribute album closely, for sure.

A 'Bare Knuckles' album! YES! Can't contribute any quality music atm, but if you guys need some help with webdesign, I'll be happy to assist in my humble capacity. In any event, more Sega Genesis goodness is always a good thing in my book. Plus, you can't go wrong with Yuzo Koshiro.
