Saxamaphonist Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 Neskarvartten has got to be my favorite remixers of this community for Its awsome live covers of zelda songs... The group is VERY impressive with a great sense of communication between the bass drums guitar and saxophone. You guys rock... I hope to hear more from them in the future! EDIT: failed to mention the Organ which is very tasteful and not overbearing as it sometimes can be in a jazz mix Quote
Less Ashamed Of Self Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 Wow, while not entirely always in perfect harmony, this song shows great skill and incredible musical talent. At times it reminds me of the kind of 'free jazz' stuff I would only lend a patient ear too, but then throughout the mix you can hear that you kept very true to the original track giving it a great new flavour! A vast improvement on the original, and while not for everybody, should be enjoyed by everyone who isn't musically closed minded. Nice stuff Neskavartten; glad to see you're letting yourself run in more untame variations as well. Quote
The3rdMan Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 Everything that's been said up to this point is precisley how I feel about it. But...I'd just like to add that this song envokes two words for me: "Miles Davis" Kudos. Quote
Navi Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 Yet another excellent mix from Neskarvartten. Their style continues to impress me. If you love jazz, this is a mix for you. I look forward to more direct posts from them *hint hint*. Quote
PianoMan Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 I'm a nÜb to these forums, so bare with me. I didn't really enjoy the first minute of the song, it was a little too dark and bare, but after that, the song mutates into a very beautiful beast, and just soars through new domains 'till the very end. Well Done. Quote
Icct Hedrix Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 What is with this guy and his jazz? Well...for one thing he's damn good at it. I like the whole thing, the instrumentation, the quality, the melody, the beats, and the sax. Im suprised though, that this mix got through. That is, Im suprised that it didnt get rejected for its lack of core melody. I personaly have never heard the original, but if I know Nesk (and I do) very little of his mixes have much to do with the melody. Then again, that still wouldnt stop me from giving it a Yes Quote

Also, if you've never heard the original, how do you know it doesn't cover the core melody? Your thoughts on this mix are totally unfounded, seeing as how many of the groups mixes do cover the source material adequately, albeit creatively. Do your homework before making such ridiculous statements. Quote
analoq Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 beautiful. i am especially partial to the rhodes. cheers. Quote

CykoticZZ Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 I LOVE this one. Its great how you can hear the sax soloing what sounded like zelda's lullaby while the guitars in the back played the temple theme. Nesk is a great group. These guys should seriously think about a CD label and some open gigs. Don't even tell people its video game music because that would turn off the old jazz crowd, just play it and see how they like it. Quote
Sefy Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 Before 1:30 I don't like this song. After that, this is better. Anyway, I really don't like too much this kind of music, so don't kill me, guys Quote
Dectilon Posted August 17, 2004 Posted August 17, 2004 If you look at it musicaly, this is easily the best piece on the site. Looking at it in any other way doesn't change that fact very much. This is great jazz, and it would be great jazz anywhere, not only for a game remix (cover) Quote
damathacus Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 I daresay this is my favourite Neskvartetten tune yet, and that's saying a lot. Briliance, truly. I'm happy to see something new from them again so soon. Quote
progressive Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 Eh... the work that went into this piece is probably the only thing that kept me from closing it out. Yes, it's a novel idea, and the melody is there, but I don't think Zelda was meant for the jazz club. I would call this piece, "Zelda Fitzgerald meets The Wiz." Quote
JJT Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 this song is yet another reason these guys are my favorite mixers on the site. Fender Rhodes = baby making music. Quote
south pacific islander Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 Jazz and Zelda seem to go hand and ahnd. This seems to strenghen the belief. The mix is perfect when trying to mix Jazz and Evil Pig King realm music into one. Once again a perfect mix. Quote
blackmyst Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Maybe this sounds strange but....I can almost taste the music in this piece. So relaxing. Quote
fetusboy Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 The jaws of Jelly Roll Morton, Wynton Marsalis and Vince Guaraldi will drop if any of those guys are alive and listening to this. Nice stuff. Quote
Chuckles Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 To be honest, I was really excited to see a mix of Ganon's Temple (my favorite piano piece to play) on the main page, by The N-squad, no less. Sahasralah's Homecoming was a great piece that I didn't expect out of a jazz mix. My ears would perk up everytime it came around on the playlist, but this song was much more ambient, almost neutral in that sense. I can tell that there's a lot going here, but the more obscure harmony and more pronounced "freestyle" brought it off my playlist fairly quickly. Quote
Koelsch1 Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 The bass is way too low frequency. It sounds fine on computer speakers, but when its played on good sound systems, the bass muds it up too much. Quote
GonTribal Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 While agree with Koelsch on the bit about the bass, the song is still incredible. I love the intro, the suspense just keeps building until the song finally reaches a continuing point. Reminds me of watching some "thriller" movie when I hear this. Good stuff. Quote
jordex Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 This one was great. It was nice and long and you don't hear many remixes of this song. Actually I think this is the only remix of this song. The jazz is very nice in this song, it'd be sweet if our band at school would learn this. Quote
