Mastertoku Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Wait just an effing minute. In the thing where you can choose your icon, it shows right next to the characters a list of Miis. ...could it be?...
Eulogic Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Holy shit, you're right! You can select a Mii as your icon, just like in every other Wii game! Or perhaps you're suggesting that each world's icon will be playable, as they too are RIGHT NEXT TO THE CHARACTERS OMG!
Zeklan Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Fuck. Yes. I just got goosebumps. Prepare to be beaten my friends.
NOIZROCX Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Mmm. Its like an Octorok to the slaughter....
Critical Hit Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Holy shit. Dreams DO come true. I wonder what kind of connection I'll be able to get with the rest of the USA up here in AK...... oh well. I'm just excited as shit right now. I think I may just stop watching the updates now that this has been officially announced. Hooollyyyy shiiiiiiit.
Trapical Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 From the VG chartz forums: The moon stood still in the sky, the earth stopped rotating, and Al Quida layed down there guns all to rejoice.
Antipode Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Sweet deal. This will make me want to play it much more. I wish you could at least create a custom avatar to use online like Mario Kart DS, though. Still, awesome-cool.
KakTheInfected Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 The lag shouldn't be too bad. When I play Strikers vs. people in Europe there is barely any lag at all (unless someone just has a shitty connection). This is godly.
Vyse the Three Eyes Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 In most games I'd have a laundry list of things to be angry about with such a barebones online mode. But this is Smash Bros, and I don't need anything more than the ability to play with my buds around the world, or be free to smash some random chumps anywhere. Hell, with Smash, I'm estatic that it's able to do all four characters. Now let's just hope all standard Smash modes are available, and they don't cut any heavily animated levels.
Linkjing Donuts Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 i like the no-rank thing they got going on with stranger battles. less competitive, but at least pussy punks won't have a reason to shut off their wii if they're losing
Zeklan Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 All hail high-speed cable internet! This has made my shitty week all worth while... Thank you Sakurai, thank you. Edit: Oh man, Captain Falcon's taunt just got soo much better.
Global-Trance Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 I'm kinda glad there's the whole anonymous thing going on for the play with strangers. It's bad enough that most of the new Smashers I meet assume they're good just because they play. This way now I don't have a face to punch in since they won't be right next to me spouting off about how good they think they are.
TheCatPhysician Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Holy shit. Dreams DO come true. I wonder what kind of connection I'll be able to get with the rest of the USA up here in AK...... oh well. I'm just excited as shit right now. I think I may just stop watching the updates now that this has been officially announced. Hooollyyyy shiiiiiiit. do you live in anchorage
Eten Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 It should be ranked. A rating server isn't hard to manage. Would work just like an RTS. Do 1v1s, and 2v2s. Finding matches pairs people off. This way you can play people from all over competitively and quickly. =/ However, I'm glad it is confirmed it can be played over the internet!
Kureejii Lea Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Meh, its not like they are gonna run out if item slots.Random Programmer: Err... Mr.Sakurai sir, you know that online gaming thing you wanted in, well, because of the hammer we don't have enough memory, so its either the hammer or online gaming, your call. Sakurai: The hammer is HARDCORE. Random Programmer: Okay, I'll go tell the online division they've been canned. Obviously Sakurai saw this post and felt the need to let the truth be known.
Hum4n After All Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Perhaps the best update yet. This or if they show Isaac. Please.
Jam Stunna Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 We might as well begin organizing the first OCR Brawl tournament now. This is good news.
Critical Hit Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 do you live in anchorage Fairbanks, actually...too bad. I don't know many smashers from around here. Also, Jam Stunna, your sig makes me smile.
Bigfoot Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 I'm glad about the no ranks. People usually just find a way to exploit it anyway(MPH anyone?), unless they would have made it so friends battle doesn't count as anything. Hopefully as mentioned, this means no disconnects from people losing.
The Author Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 So, I guess I have to write an outlandish claim again and we will get a nice new feature. Web Designer: Sir, since you posted a big new today, are you sure that you want to talk about the extra character options? Sakurai: Well, extra characters are what makes this game like candy. Web Designer: Yeah but announcing Wifi drained our bandwidth us badly, to announce that we will be able to add characters simply by putting them on game disks... I mean, I know that the option to add more characters to the game is neat, but still. Sakurai: Olympic Mario is an athlete with no limits. Web Designer: Okay, who broke the boss again?
dsx100 Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 The online mode is very simple and bare and the lack of leaderboards and rankings kind of takes the competition aspect out of the game. However, I'm just glad the game has Wi-Fi play at all. I'm sure I'll be playing friends the majority of the time anyway.
Dunther Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 No ranks = no quitter With friends, you can brawl any way you like. And there are other modes besides just free-for-alls. Yes!!! And...I LOVE SANDBAG!!!!
The Author Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Leaderboards would actually suck. The people would simply try to disconnect to avoid losing. People don't play fair online, we've seen that too often.
JoeFu Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Will, this has officially passed SMG as my most wanted game of this year.
