  1. I'm really digging Torchlight 2. It's done a marvelous job at not feeling repetitive, the major stumbling block of hack n slash games.
  2. It sounds like Pendulum is having a bit of a joke on people, trying to prevent them from copying their bass sound in a self-effacing way. "Oh, our bass sound sucks, don't bother trying to copy it. *snicker*"
  3. I don't think I'm done tweaking the intro, not quite happy with it. And I'm not sure if I like the first main lead sound or not. Thankfully I've only been at this track for a week so I'm not sick of it yet. and yep, this sounds nothing at all like the original. Which might not be a selling point for people who like the original soundtrack.
  4. During the mix process, do you switch over to mono and address issues? A mix can sound great in stereo, then you switch to mono and you want to cry. But you have to gird your loins and confront your instruments all piled up on top of each other, like they tend to get in the car. What I do guarantee is it has absolutely nothing to do with your rendering. Most likely it's a case of your mix sounding good in the "sweet spot", and bad elsewhere.
  5. If professionally mixed music sounds good but your track sounds bad, there's something wrong with your track. That's why car speakers and headphones are indispensable parts of mixing. They instantly tell you if something is way wrong.
  6. The Wandering Hero source Big beat, I guess. symphonic big beat? sounds kind of pretentious.
  7. As said, there's no law against using complex presets verbatim. Just your own sense of shame.
  8. I think a real violin would sound much better than the sampled one you have. I'd be happy to knock out a recording for you. PM me if interested.
  9. imo the rhythm guitars should be wider. The drum mix isn't really slamming like it should be.
  10. sounds pretty nice. Not sure if the synths are kind of swamping the beat. Maybe it's just these headphones.
  11. I was going to donate, but it looks it's blown past the goal and left it in the dust. So, uh, what is all the extra scratch going to be used for?
  12. Dual monitors are not "necessary", but they are awesome. As for a mixer, depends. If you have a few different inputs and don't want to constantly be switching patch cords on your audio interface, a mixer could come in handy. I use a mixer to route inputs to the PC and output from the PC to my speakers, as well as inputs that bypass the PC and go directly to the speakers. It's pretty useful.
  13. A VSTi is a virtual instrument, like a synth or sampler. The "i" stands for instrument. Reaper puts instruments in the VSTi folder, and effects in the VST folder. Same for DXi (instruments) and DX (effects). Just an FYI.
  14. Yeah, just a heads up to anyone viewing this thread, the page 1 comments about the acoustic gtr section refer to a previous version.
  15. Go to Track, Insert Virtual Instrument on New Track. Select the synth you want to insert. Then go to View, Media Explorer. Browse to the MIDI file you want to import. Drag and drop it on the track you just created. Assuming you have set up your audio device correctly in Reaper, the MIDI sequence should play using the synth plugin you selected.
  16. Open the Media Explorer and drag a MIDI file to a track that contains a synth plugin.
  17. Yeah Chipsounds is good stuff, I bought it a few months back and don't regret it.
  18. Yep, I already did. In the meantime though I wanted to share it with the good people here. Probably will also put it on Youtube.
  19. One last update. I accidentally muted a track.
  20. It's pretty much done. If I can think of little tweaks going forward I'll make them, but I'm pretty comfortable sticking a fork in it. On to the next tune.
  21. Link updated. Tweaked the acoustic gtr section. I think it flows better now.
