Is this a "Just sit tight, it'll all be fine" issue or a "Petition Square-Enix" issue? I was really pumped for this thing.
I'm in charge.

The answer is "we're looking into it" because we are indeed still looking into it; we ask for your patience & trust, and we're definitely going to be filling everyone in as soon as it makes sense to.

Not all bad

No point wasting energy in speculating what could be awry.
I don't know much, but I would bet that getting worked up before any concrete info is given won't really help.

ALSO...
It seems to me that there is still going to be a lot of really great music put together and it's going to be FREE to anyone interested. That alone is still something to be excited about in my book. Right?

I'd rather not establish a precedent whereby we have to pay for rights in order to arrange music which we post online for free. Hasn't this ground already been covered?

just listened. at between 10:00 and 11:00 on One Winged Angel + Ending + Bonus Track, he delves into how it was created. he doesn't mention getting the rights for sampling there like he does for capcom in the same track, but apparently there weren't any issues.

i misspoke on him getting the rights, but he talks about it right in the song.
Mega Ran's Capcom-related releases are officially licensed. However, he doesn't have a license from Square-Enix for Black Materia. We talked about it pretty extensively with him a little while back.

This is all well taken it's just really weird to me. Pretty much for the exact reason you mentioned. I guess technically it has to do with profiting (emphasis on technically) from someone else's work, but an artist doesn't need permission for a cover as long as they give credit to the original writer/composer right? I realize remixes aren't covers but if anything that should reduce the copyright confusions. I dunno, it's just weird.

Sorry, I'm speculating. I'll stop that now.

I sure hope this gets resolved soon (we all probably feel that way...)
I wonder if Square-Enix saw the numbers and amount of support and thought "HEY! They shouldn't be receiving those funds, WE should!"

And then there was that whole deal with the Chrono Trigger Resurrection 3D remake project that got the official Cease and Desist order...
