  2. We are still looking at options for the physical release (production costs of 1 disc vs. 2), but the digital version of the album will have individual tracks as well as one super mix.

  3. The wait is finally over! Now that Q4 2011 is finally here, it's time for volume 2 of Final Fantasy V: The Fabled Warriors... Water! We've left no puddle unsplashed, with 10 great pieces painstakingly and wetly arranging classic FF5 themes from "The Prelude" to "Song of Storms"!

  4. Hey everyone! I'm hanging out at ArenaNet -- the developers of Guild Wars 2 -- today, and I will be on Guild Chat on their Twitch channel at 12pm PST. We'll be talking about their game-within-a-game Super Adventure Box, and my music's inclusion into the game will likely come up as well. I'll be repping OCR there too, so if you can, stop by and check it out!

  5. Apologies for the lack of QA that apparently transpires in OCR staff in general. We'll get that fixed soon!

  6. These days Komplete is a no-brainer starter package. However, for me, I'm not really interested in Komplete all that much--when I started out with Native-Instruments, Komplete didn't exist. I bought Kontakt 2 about 10 years ago over Gigastudio (super glad how that worked out). A year or so later, I bought Guitar Rig with the Rig Kontrol. Now it seems every year they try to tempt me with a Crossgrade price. The problem for me is that for the longest time, aside from Reaktor, nothing in Komplete really piqued my interest since most of the sample libraries were sub-par or redundant to what I already owned (having been collecting VST effects and instruments for 10 years as well). Last year I bought Reaktor 6 for like $100 bucks or something, maybe less, and that pretty well sealed the coffin for me on Komplete. Instead of Battery, I have Geist, Tremor, and a slew of acoustic drum libraries (including Addictive Drums 2). Instead of the Komplete collection of synths, I have pretty well mastered Zebra 2--I mean, presets are all great and everything, but I haven't used synth presets for a long time (except Init). When you master an instrument like Zebra, presets lose their appeal over the sound you have in your head. For fun I did buy Serum and I have owned Omnisphere for ages. So for me, no, Komplete isn't a great deal. They don't take into account that I have several of their products when they give me the crossgrade price. So I've been content, so to speak, just upgrading over the years the individual packages (when they do their summer 50% upgrade sales). For people just starting out, however, it's a no-brainer--save up, buy it.

  7. Absynth feels like the least essential individual component of Komplete, to me.... it's deep, but there's something about it that just strikes me as incomplete & subpar relative to Zebra2, for instance...

  8. Hey folks. Sorry for the false alarm earlier today with the April Fool's joke. Some people seem to be assuming that because we did a joke today about the album, this entire month of my saying that the album is done was just a lead up to the joke. If you know me and my opinions about April Fool's Day, you know that I have very strong opinions about doing any part of an A1 joke outside of April 1st. Rest assured, Water is done in terms of both music and album art. Speaking of album art, take a look at what we've got cooked up! And here's the tracklist! I've been working with @rnn who's our wonderfully talented album artist for For Everlasting Peace, Super Cartogrpahy Bros., and Apex 2015: This is the Moment, to completely revamp the visual look for The Fabled Warriors. Volume 2 is going to be a stepping off point for this series in terms of art. After Water is released, we're going to go back and redo the album art for Wind to match this new style; it'll feature Bartz on the cover against a "windy" backdrop and a wind-inspired circular pattern. The next three albums (Fire, Earth, and Dawn) will feature Faris, Galuf, and Krile. I want to thank @Otakatt and @Monobrow for their help with the original album art for Wind all those years ago. I had a specific idea for the series back then and we executed on it really well. But given some distance, I've decided I want to change up the look of the series and make things consistent throughout. I'm pretty excited. Anyway look for the real release of Water in the coming weeks. It's all coming together. All that's really left is some preparation stuff on OCR staff's side; trailer, comments, etc. Thanks for being patient.

  11. I guess Absynth is a "your mileage may vary" type of plugin Personally, while I *DO* think it's great for sound design & eccentric textures/FX, I just feel that for basses, leads, etc., it rarely produces results I find usable. I'd like to see its extensive randomization/mutation functionality ported to other synths though - A+ implementation for that type of feature.

  15. The game on itself is really strange but is worth it (if you can find it). There's also a sequel, Nier Automata, that will be available maybe this year. Glad to make you discover this OST, which is my absolute favorite! Can't wait to see what people will do with it

  19. Hmm... Flexstyle doesn't usually post giant warning text. Something stirs beneath the ground, methinks.

  20. @ Anyone who reads this thread and wants to give advice: don't do it. It's a trap. This guy will not dialog, and will only keep asking more ridiculously open-ended questions.

  21. I think Absynth is TERRIFIC. It's not versatile like Zebra 2, but I never tried to compare it on that aspect... I find it more valuable for easy generation of wild but musical textures, and the presets are inspiring for more musically toned soundscapes atmospheres. It's my favorite Komplete synth, but I would agree if one said that it's not worth buying on its own.

  22. I can mostly see the issues that the No's are bringing up but I don't think they bring the track below the bar for me. The arrangement is emotive and personalized and overall has a great concept that really brings it together. All that being said, if it comes down to another pass this track could definitely be that much better, so good luck either way and I hope to hear this on the front page! YES

  23. @djpretzel, I used to think the same thing, but the wide array of Synth Pad and Soundscape presets alone make it extremely useful. I've taken some time to go through and tag my favorite ones for future use. Also, the mutate feature is just absurd. Sometimes when I get writer's block, I'll open Absynth and see what happens with random mutations. It's like a Pandora's Box with no consequences. Sometimes I'll get a cool lead, pad or sound effects. It's not an amazing standalone synth, but it's something that I often find myself coming back to when I need to add some ambient texture underneath a track.

  24. Do keep in mind that they may not have those exact sales this year. But, for the past several years, I believe there's been at least one sale on new versions of Komplete. It's also worth noting that as long as you don't have academic versions, you can get individual NI products removed from your NI account, enabling you to pass the serial number on to someone else and sell the product second-hand. (Of course, you have to find someone who wants to buy the NI product and doesn't already have Komplete, which isn't always easy).

  25. Mega Man Battle Network has been remixed once in PRC, in round 202. The source was MMBN - Cold And Silent That round had two sources, remixers could choose between them. The winning track of OneUp was a remix of the Mega Man Battle Network source, I don't know about the other entries, maybe they mixed the Mega Man source as well. You can find them here: http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/PRC202

  31. ^That^ is excellent Will! Does a remix of a mashup count? Here is a remix that bLiNd and I did of an existing mashup of the Mario theme with Nine Inch Nails' 'Closer' Here is the original mashup that we made the remix from (bLiNd and I did not make this mashup, just the remix):
