  1. Well, we're finally done, guys! I have to admit that I had no idea how big and awesome this album would be when I started recruiting people. Thank you very much for all your hard work! I'll update the thread with all the important news (tracklist, release date, etc.) and throw in a couple of hype things as well Stay tuned!

  2. I was happy to help out with Faseeh's track, and I bet you're all gonna like it As for the deadline... great push towards the deadline, guys! Thanks a lot for all the excellent tracks you've been working on, I think the album is great The next few days we'll finish off the package (doing stuff like tagging, converting to mp3, finalizing the back covers and writing the final album comments) and send it to OCR for approval and release.

  6. Real shame that this can't be officially submitted because the arrangement is pretty clever. It can be a bit repetitive though. You might want to look into other system sounds of the Cube to spice it up a little. Hip Hop isn't my style but I like what I'm hearing!

  7. I never knew about what Gario said about openings and homepage music being a no-go for OCRemixes. I do like this, though. Maybe if you were to throw in something from a Nintendo video game along with this, perhaps it could get reviewed. I mean, this is pretty catchy.

  8. This track entertains me in so many ways. I like the chiptune melodies with (as @Gario calls it and I LOVE this response) the 'absolute cheese factor' of the synths - it's a bright, bouncy, and humorous approach. I really enjoyed this - two thumbs up! I would also like to say that 'Only Link Can Do the Duck Walk' is the perfect name for this track.

  10. Yeah, one or two instruments, anyway. I've put you down as performer/collaborator for all the instruments you have listed on your profile - including vocals. You can always refer any requests to someone else if you don't have time or feel capable. I've also put you down for audio support. Let me know if you want me to change anything. I've also put @classic_gamer_76 down as a performer/collaborator for synthesizer, since he's now involved in three different collaborations. It's been great working with him on Corneria so far!

  11. Haha, this is pretty clever. Really fun way to manipulate the source on this one - splicing and rearranging. Neat how the tonality of that source is so darn ambiguous, and yet you seem to make some sense out of it. Your music is your music, and I'll look forward to the finished product. I will, however, add one little known detail on this (more just a general reminder than anything, for those that don't know): While a clever idea, prior precedent has established system music (like Gamecube's opening, Wii's homepage music, PS1 opening chime, etc.) doesn't count as a videogame soundtrack for OCR's purposes, so if (and only if) you plan on ever submitting, don't be too disappointed if it gets straight rejected on those grounds. For the sake of the WIP boards, though, I'll make the judgment call and say it's alright in here... primarily because I want to see where you take this, 'cause it's pretty cool. Nice work so far.

  12. Hey guys, this is a really cool project idea. I'd like to offer my services as a performer to anyone needing some live instrumental recordings. I have a high quality audio rig and have mic techniques and basic eq/mastering knowledge to get a good .wav of anything that needs to be sent to remixers. I've got too many projects going on to offer a dedicated remix of any of the tracks myself or oversee the arrangement, but I'd be happy to track/record anything that I can offer!

  13. Dude this is rad. I have a buddy that would LOVE this. I'll be sure to share it with him. He looks for jams to hype his melee game.

  14. While OCR's Content Policy is quite permissive with regards to ReMix usage in streams and videos, we've seen reports of videos getting hit with Content ID matches on YouTube against tracks from our catalog. Some matches are bogus (stolen tracks, false positives, etc.), some are legitimate (tracks that are a part of a commercial release, audio matched to a source tune, or legitimately claimed by the ReMixer). Here's a list of ReMixes we know have had issues in the past. If you're a streamer or video creator, avoid these tracks. It should be noted that this list is not comprehensive, only because -- as we post new ReMixes -- other tracks may get added. We also don't have any list available for Twitch, though we haven't heard of issues there. It's possible that there are other tracks that will get your video flagged, and we periodically update this list. Unfortunately there's not a lot we can do about it, except recommend that when you contest your ContentID match with YouTube, link OCR's Content Policy. We've heard reports of people using that to get the hit removed. We also recommend using Rainwave's song widget for Twitch for their OCR radio station. When new songs trigger YouTube's ContentID, Rainwave staff will get in touch with us and vice-versa in order to keep this list updated. 16. i'm in! a reminder - make your 'list' of stuff unique and fun! it's cool to just get whatever you say you want, but it's more cool to say a bunch of weird stuff and then get something really interesting or fun or unique or creative. i gave flexstyle a vinyl album, some artisan hot chocolate, and cans of a hard-to-find soda last year. not much gaming but still a fun thing to do. i'd never have done that if he hadn't had crazy stuff on his wishlist =)

  17. Ugh, I wish I had reviewed this sooner. I listened to this awhile back, but didn't have the time to actually type up the full review. Until now. In short, I loved it. Love Chrono Trigger, love jazz, so this is one example of a perfect album for me ---- Yasunori Mitsuda did things in the games he composed for that not a lotof composers could do. He was certainly ahead of his time when he composedfor his first game, Chrono Trigger. So how do you rearrange the music of ChronoTrigger in a way that exemplifies, and honors the unique composing style thatYasunori Mitsuda brought to the game? Make a full-on jazz album.Wiesty notes in the comments that this seemed like an impossible task. But inall honestly, the jazz genre perfectly blends with the audio asthetics of ChronoTrigger. So the only impossible tasks were time (no pun intended), and motivation. And all the artists apart of this managed to bring jazz to the forefront of oneof the greatest soundtracks of all time.1. Wiesty, The OC Jazz Collective - "Way Before the Day Before Yesterday"Era: Prehistoric (65,000,000 B.C.)Sources: "Burn! Bobonga! Burn!"; "Lavos's Theme," "Rhythm of Earth, Wind, and Sky" (cameo)An excellent opener for Chronology. It sounds like an excellent warm-up session, quickly transitioning into the opening number of a fine jazz concert. Right away, you know what to expect. The Lavos touch was quite remarkable. As a jazz piece,it adds more of an introductory "OMPH" than any other piece composed for theprehistoric era.2. Triplepoint Trio (Doug Perry, Sam Suggs, Jonny Allen) - "Triggernometry"Source: "Chrono Trigger"I don't know if this was intentional or not, but the transition between track1 and track 2 is one of, if not, the best I have ever heard on an OCR album. Itis so seamless, almost as if both tracks were one in the same. As for the trackitself, it is a great interpretation of the main Chrono Trigger theme. It's justas exciting as the original source material. The vibraphone, and violin work hereis especially phoenomenal.3. Nostalvania, The OC Jazz Collective - "Time's Seal"Era: Dark Ages (12,000 B.C.)Source: "Sealed Door"What makes this track interesting is how they turned a slow, haunting track intosomething very reminiscant of a night stroll through New Orelans. It makes openingthat sealed door a lot more exciting and interesting than kind of depressed andlonely.4. Wiesty, The OC Jazz Collective - "Neuga, Ziena, Zieber, Zom..."Era: Middle Ages (600 A.D.)Source: "Magus Confronted"In comparison to the last piece, this one feels like a night club lounge jazztrack. Pretty appropriate considering the source material, the battle theme ofsomeone who at first is viewed as a dark, foreboding individual. The flute isa nice touch. A fine way to honor the original, while turning a dramatic battletheme into something more subdued, and chilling (the relaxing kind, not the creepykind).5. Wiesty, The OC Jazz Collective - "Dream of Green"Era: Present (1000 A.D.)Sources: "Secret of the Forest"; "Chrono Trigger" (cameo)Both this arrangement, and the original source material give off a sense ofmystery and intrigue. Right off the bat, this arrangement does the forest portionsof the game justice. It doesn't sound like just an arrangement, it sounds likesomething that would fit right in with the actual game. 6. Nostalvania, The OC Jazz Collective - "Fight or Flight"Era: Apocalypse (1999 A.D.)Source: "The Epoch - Wings of Time"The Epoch theme was already jazz inspired to begin with, so I can imagine thisbeing a difficult piece to arrange for a jazz album. The time signature changesreally helped make this arrangement stand out from the original source material ina way that honors the game, and Yasunori Mitsuda's work.7. Wiesty, The OC Jazz Collective - "When Hell Freezes Over"Era: Future (2300 A.D.)Sources: "A Desolate World," "Yearnings of the Wind"Very mysterious, and very intriguing. The original source material was moreominous, and reflective of a defeated mood. This sounds like something you'dhear in a noir film when the main protagonist is at a loss on what to do next.It kind of makes me think of what Casablanca would sound like if it weremade in this day and age (HOLLYWOOD DO NOT REMAKE CASABLANCA). 8. Fratto, Wiesty, The OC Jazz Collective - "Driftwood"Era: End of Time (∞)Source: "At the End of Time"And here we reach the end. The end of time that is. At first, you think this piecewill serve as something of a "wind down" sort of track. But no, it wants to go outwith the excitement and flair that helps define this album. From beginning to end, this album is nothing but pure fun. Other albums serve towow and excite you with how classics can be arranged into different genres, and howmany different feelings you can get throughout the album. That is why I appreciatethe pure fun that this album brings. I am still in awe over how tracks one and twosound back to back. But each track can still be listened to on its own, and appreciatedat the same time. If you don't like jazz, this album may not be for you, as thisis 100% jazz all around.

  18. Hey, six years later and it's still one of my favorite albums on here, no joke (Cartography and probably the FF albums compete, but it's not a clear case of 'best album', in any case). Don't worry, Curtis, you're not alone on that opinion; this is an awesome album.

  19. Hi all! You might know me from some of my previous remix albums and tracks on compilations (Chronicles of Time, Spectrum of Mana, Vampire Variations, etc). For the past few years, I've put together a yearly Halloween horror music remix compilation featuring various musicians from the VGM scene. We did another one this year, and all proceeds go to Doctors Without Borders and ASPCA. It's free to download/stream, but if you want to toss a few bucks towards a good cause, we'd appreciate it! 20. Ah, thanks for the information, I was genuinely curious. So Materia did the Kirby 64 Boss on that tribute album (which I had just finished listening to when I wrote my previous post), and melody also did Indomitable in Chronicles of Time. Hope to hear more from them; this Corridor of Time remix is my favorite, albeit tied with Corrupter of Time, ahead of 30 others. The ambience, the driving drum and bass, the dancing guitar lead... it's beautiful.

  21. Yes, that's a band that has melody and three other musicians. From what I saw on VGMdb, melody arranged the entire suite and played the guitar parts for the band recording. They also came back together for the recent Nintendo 64 tribute as well

  24. Larry, just to clarify - my usage of 'The Day the World Revived' can be found in the shakuhachi melody from :52 - 1:15 and 4:35 - 4:50, and also, the flute melody from 3:04 - 3:22 is from :07 in Schala's theme (the string pattern.) Pretty marginal, and like you said, the Schala bells are all over this thing (sometimes reversed) so it should check out on source usage regardless, but I wanted to point that usage out because I don't think a lot of people will notice the part at 3:04 Cheers everyone!
