  1. This is a playthrough video of the first single of VMK's debut album "Platinum Wings." A passion project inspired by popular shoot 'em up video games of the 1990's such as "Thunder Force," "Touhou," and "Raiden." 2. Hi there fellow video game music fans. I just released my new version of this epic theme from Strikers 1945 II. Devil's Tower is going to be hot... The original song:
  3. Just threw this together quickly as I wanted to pay tribute to my favourite part of the new Streets of Rage 4 soundtrack. For me the soundtrack is really interesting, I personally miss the iconic melodies of the first two games but overall it works, and while I feel it is lacking those catchy melodies, suddenly there are moments like this in the game where it just hits home and immediately feels nostalgic even though it's brand new. https://youtu.be/LfDkxa2Teek
  4. Metal version of Bombing mission. All kinds of feedback is allways welcome
  5. I GUESS SO? Bit of a hybrid of what I used to do and what I'm about now. DOES IT SOUND ANY GOOD? I don't even know anymore. x
  6. Bit of an odd one here - it's a concept piece inspired by Solaire and his unwavering faith and love for the sun. I tried to empathise with that feeling of pure enamourment and immediately thought of my wife, which made writing lyrics really easy. Musically, it's a bit on the heavy side, but I think there's something there for everyone, if you're not too limited in your tastes. I'd adore some feedback, whether it's about structure, the mix or even tones. Though, please keep in mind that this is only about 80% complete - I'm touching and tweaking the middle bit and some of the vocals need a bit of a polish/ re-recording. Thanks in advance - lyrics are at the bottom. Lyrics: With the thirst of the flora, I open my arms, Craving aurora, I yearn for the sun. *Chorus* Faith and honour, as pure as the water, As sure as I suffer, I will burn until I'm bone. Faith and honour, as pure as the water, Sure as I will suffer, I will never die alone. The grace of another, The failing of want, Through an end sought together, I become the sun. *Chorus* My faith bathes me with fire, (When I can't feel your warmth) My faith blinds me with light, (When all I see is dark) My faith bathes me with fire, (When death has overcome) My faith blinds me with light, (When I can't see the sun) *Chorus*
  7. Salutation everyone! Please, listen to the last version: V6, now with REAL GUITARS bits in it: https://drive.google.com/file/d/144o313TO7cJql9JJuTRYo57A90Qqlkku/view?usp=sharing Every time I start a new track, I think about the story it will tell. Concerning this one, it's kind of a crossover between The Matrix and the original story of the game: the hacker Link tries to hack into the JANUS system to find answers. The thing is, nothing goes according to plan... Regarding the arrangement, I was inspired by different sources, such as Master Boot Record, The Algorithm or to some extend Igorrr (all fantastic bands, but rather extreme), even though I shifted to something different along the way, and added some trance elements. Overall, I think it's a very fun track, but I lack confidence in my mixing/mastering skills, so I'd appreciate if you could focus more on this aspect. God, I hope you'll like it as much as I do Really, I'm open to all sorts of feedback. And of course, thank you for reading all this! Merry Christmas, happy new year, and have a fun listening tl;dr: fun electro/metal remix, I'm looking for feedback, and hope to be posted Old versions: version 1 version 2 version 3 version 4 version 5 version 5 more bass Source: Gameboy version / Switch version Post submission edit: I hid stuff in the specter of the track. I tried to hint at it (read the first letters of each paragraph of this post up to the tl;dr) but I guess it was too much work for anyone to notice ^^ So here is a link to a pdf detailling all the easter eggs I hid in the track : https://drive.google.com/open?id=1B4o86pP--KYy7mTOpKp7JxvTTCMjK1vY Also, thank you to everyone who listened the track and commented, be it on the discord or the forums, and most particularly to Timaeus who played a major role in the production of this remix. See you all soon, be it for another remix of mine, or just to rework this in case of rejection!
  8. Hello everyone! I'm Eidenlux, and this is my first post - so I deeply apologize for any mistake I could incur into. I'm gonna share with you a tune I've submitted yesterday. Being my first submission to the OCRemix community, I just realized it could've been a better idea to post it here first, so I could have some outside feedback before bring it directly to the jury. I'm not sure whenever this style is widespread, hence the question mark in the title. Basically, it's a blend of Symphonic metal, Cyber metal and Synthwave - Replacing the vocals with lead, "retro"-style synths. So, for that manner, I'm gonna give some background info about this track. I apologize if it's too long, that's why I'm gonna post the story part in spoilers, so you can skip it if you're not interested in the details (although they could be useful to understand the context of the production and arrangements): So, after many years, I thought: "I love this track. I have now mastered the production style I want. Now it's the time to make my own version". For that manner, I tried to leave some reminiscences of the original CPS instruments, like that synth used in the middle part of the original track, using my own synthesis (ironically based on those classic sounds). I would love to read any kind of opinion on any aspect of the tune, both musical and/or production-wise. As for my part, I'm comfortable with the overall production, which is basically what I had in mind. I didn't deviate too much from the original source track, except for a few details, new instruments like distorted guitars, stronger drum presence and the addition of my personal middle part in the second round of the track. Perhaps I like this tune too much to change it to the extreme hahaha But I'm quite satisfied with the final results; otherwise, I don't think I would have had the guts to submit it in the first place Anyway, here I'll leave the link on Bandcamp, it should have an acceptable, good streaming quality: https://eidenlux.bandcamp.com/track/royal-flush-bgp-groove Thank you a lot for this space and your time. We'll be reading each other
  9. A while ago, I self-published my debut album, ORACLE. I don't think I ever shared it on here, so here's a link to one of the tracks, 'Exordium': https://bjoernkmusic.bandcamp.com/track/exordium-2 Genre-wise, this is a modern, guitar-centric metal album, with particular focus on riffs and atmosphere rather than wild leads and crazy technique. Think of Metallica's instrumental songs but with a djent-y soundscape and a pinch of prog. I'm also heavily (ha! pun!) influenced by other metal musicians from the YouTube space, such as Keith Merrow (Merrow, Conquering Dystopia, Alluvial) or Ola Englund (Feared, The Haunted). 'Exordium' is the single of the album, and I think it's a good way to start into it. It's fairly straight forward, in-you-face metal. The album gets a bit more progressive than that on tracks like Of Guilt and Catharsis. If you feel drawn to acts like Meshuggah or Periphery / Haunted Shores, you might want to give these a go as well. This whole project was a one-nerd-effort, from conception to final mixdown. Except for mastering, for which I was lucky enough to get Ermin Hamidovic from Systematic Productions (Architects, Periphery, Devin Townsend) on board. Conceptually, the album tackles themes of insecurity and depression, but also of struggle and overcoming. The album as a whole looks at the process of working through a life-altering event, with all its ups and downs. The individual tracks dig into the different stages of this process, as well as the emotions attached to that. To give you an idea, 'Premonitions' is informed by the looming feeling of something not being right that you sometimes get way before you consciously notice any actual problems / changes, while 'Exordium' tries to capture the almost manic determination that sometimes grabs a hold of ya when you realize the inevitability of a big event that is heading your way. But enough rambling, at the end of the day, I'd be much more interested to hear what YOU hear in the album. Of course, any and all feedback regarding songwriting, mixing etc. would be much appreciated - while this is my first foray into the scene, I'm not planning to leave it at that and there's so much to do and to improve I hope you give Exordium---and maybe even the entire album---a spin. The link above leads to Bandcamp, but it's up on all major streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube) as well. Cheers!
  10. Another piece I did for DoD, but unlike the last one (which was a mostly straightforward cover), this one is a mashup of 2 songs from the OST and has a much more original arrangement. Haven't submitted yet, but I think I may sometime soon. Let me know if there's some mix tweaks or anything else that could improve it before I do! Originals: Now, smashed and banged (smanged!) together and turnt to 11:
  11. Sharing my latest metal remix of a track called "We've Got Hostiles" (link) from the original 2012 Black Mesa soundtrack. After the Black Mesa devs recently announced that the Xen Beta would go live soon (which it did a couple of days ago) I was super exited and wanted to celebrate this with a remix. When I planned it out, I unfortunately was not aware that the release of the dedicated (and absolutely gorgeous) soundtrack for Xen by Joel Nielsen was also immenent. Therefore, I picked a song from the original 2012 soundtrack. Wanted to share this here because I appreciate the OCR community a lot. Had some good discussions and feedback here in my early remixing days (aka. a couple of years back). But, to be honest with you, I'm not planning on submitting this one. Two reasons for this: Firstly, the remix contains a couple of voice lines from Half-Life 2, and this kind of stuff is always an issue from a copyright standpoint. Secondly, the last couple of remixes I submitted seem to have vanished into the nether, without any feedback / judge decision whatsoever. Totally understandable, from the "active judges" thread it is obvious that you are understaffed at the moment and while probably being flooded with submission more than ever. Anyways, enough rambling. Hope some of you stumble upon this thread and give this remix a listen. If you do, definitely let me know what you think! Imma go back to pondering if making a remix of "Shadows of Death" from the Xen soundtrack might be low-hanging fruit or not at this point.
  12. In what seems to be a misunderstanding of the usual OCR process, I already e-mailed this in (derp). But let's pretend I didn't! This is a somewhat doomy/sludgy metal take on this tune. I'm pretty happy with it all in all. Feel free to feedback away! Original: My hot take on it:
  13. A remix I made for the Pixel Mixers CV Tribute Album. Used the melody from CV2 Dracula's Castle theme and made a song. Complete with original lyrics!
  14. Here's a pretty straightforward metal cover of Undertale's MEGALOVANIA (as if there weren't enough of those). I did one years ago but this one came out much, much better, though admittedly I did rush it as I recorded most of it in a day. I really like the mixing/mastering on this one and any feedback on that aspect is appreciated. SoundCloud:
  15. Hello! Made this for Mega Man competition. Kinda fun and happy metal What do you think? Thanks. Source Fire man Source Cut man
  16. Hello! Another attempt to be like one of my favorite bands PAIN Not sure I've reach anywhere close. What do you think? Remix: Source:
  17. Hello! Long time ago I wanted to make "virtual band" in League of Legends universe, from Noxus. With Katarina's vocal, Darius and Thalon with guitars, Sion on Bass gtr, Draaaven as a drummer and Urgot(before rework) at synths. I made this track and even lyrics(inspired by Rammstein). But than, Riot's made Pentakill.. So my idea died. Pentakill is great, so I don't complane. enjoy if you can xD
  18. Hello. Made it long ago. What do you think? Source EDIT: Fixed source link. Sorry.
  19. Probably the best remix I've made in terms of production quality. Super groovy theme, and I do love a bit of Balrog Got a load more SF2 themes on my youtube if anyone enjoys this and is interested. Thanks
  20. Hi there! I'm Paul. I'm new to this website so I'm not 100% how it works but, I've seen some really awesome stuff though and I'm glad to be a part of this community! I've just started my own journey of creating metal versions of classic retro (and maybe some modern) video game music. I've started with a very well known theme that's probably been done to death, but I'd like to think I put my own spin on it. A Swedish melodic metal twist perhaps? Anyway... here it is! Hope you all like it! Peace!
  21. Hello, I wanted to share two recent tunes here. the first one is an ambiant composition with female choir, 12 chord guitar, flutes, delays, textures and drums that conveys advanture and danger. The second one is a Metal track with guitar solos, bass fills with wah wah pedal and a heavy and tight drum. Hope you guys enjoy it!
  22. Hiya! Another Temple theme cover!? Well, yes I made a cover of this like ten years ago and shared it to ScrewAttack g1 submission thing or whatever. It sucked hard, but it was the best I could do at the time. So when I started getting serious about the video game remixing/covering (btw, which is it!?) I wanted to do this again to show myself how I have improved... and I have, if I say it so myself. Got a bit side tracked on the end riffing, but I thought it needed some heavy dropped D twanging release! Have a lovely day y'all! Original tune:
  23. Hello again. It's been quite a while since I first posted here, but I've decided to link some of my newer original music. Although I have also made some electronic and chiptune tracks, I have mainly still been writing many short "djent-y" themes, a few of which I will link below. My previous thread is obsolete as the tracks that used to be linked there were WIP versions of very old tracks that I've since uploaded to SoundCloud. Rather than re-post my oldest tracks here, I'm instead sharing some of my most recent music. The mixing quality and compression varies a lot amongst the short metal tracks, as I am still experimenting and learning how to make very heavy music like this sound better (e.g., heavy and aggressive but without being too clean, harsh, or messy). From 5 months ago: For this I tried to make something extremely "evil" and foreboding. Basically a wall of distortion with ominous choirs. From 6 months ago: Inspired by games such as DOOM. Same thing as above: Wall of distortion. No choirs or synths, though. I don't really like the drum samples I used... Within the past week: Use of dissonant, distorted chords. I think the drums in this are better than the drums I used in older stuff. This one has more melodic, slightly less distorted riffs. Making extremely down-tuned bass sound good is the main problem here for me. Thanks for listening! I am always finding ways to improve, but I enjoy making these themes.
  24. Hey all, I just finished my third cover from the Final Fantasy series - "Fighting" I've also covered: "Still More Fighting" from FF7 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odkxjXxugRY "Terra" from FF6 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qgc3Fm-EjY
  25. Hey all. Back in 2011 I made a cover of the Skyrim Main Theme, which went viral (over 4 5 million views!) I recently made an extended and remastered version. Check it out!
