Instrumental & Vocal Skills (Other)

  1. Hey OC Remix community! I am still improving my production and composition skills with the little time that I dedicate to writing and producing. I am hoping that get some input that will help this remix be appropriate for submission! As a caveat, I do plan on recording a few classical instrument performances (I play the clarinet) and I will humanize the piece a lot when I near completion of the piece. I also have not "master mixed" the piece. However, I think that this piece is coming along nicely. I intended for this piece to mix classical with electronic elements (there are two synths). Phantasy Star IV's music does this well so I wanted to also incorporate that into this remix. I also am mashing two pieces of music into one remix because the first song I chose was a bit thin on length (content). The two pieces have a similar vibe and they are Requiem for Lutz and The Age of Fables. I would consider this approximately 55% done but that's a rough estimate. I don't know how much more can be done exactly but there are a number of ideas floating around in my head (got a head ache). Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Download of the remix in progress: http://www.tonalbliss.com/music/displays/truthbetold_4.mp3 The two original tunes I'm basing my mix on on YouTube: https://youtu.be/uH-4DZWv5fI?list=PLirSddeMOYZ5E_9xpoTRYi3ksQmlFPdFL and https://youtu.be/afEQQhQajLE?list=PLirSddeMOYZ5E_9xpoTRYi3ksQmlFPdFL
  2. 2018 UPDATE: It is still in Musescore 2, but I'm taking a decisive turn towards an orchestral version instead of EDM. I hope to be able to finish it one of these days because this is taking me forever. Most of the mix is done. I'm stuck at the end due to a thing with the soundfont, and I was hoping to do a new section in between somewhere. https://soundcloud.com/user-227517766/folly-fire-2018-orchestral-update-wip I'm unsure about the transitions. At first they didn't sound right, but after a while I got used to it and I started to think its okay. I could use someone's fresh perspective on it. Previous UPDATE: FL Studio Version Hello, I'm a new user here and I would like to share a remix that I am working on with you guys and ask some basic feedback about the project in its current stage of development. Before jumping in, please consider the follow comments, to get an idea of where I am coming from and what I'm trying to accomplish. I am looking for feedback on some specific points. Tracks Used So I tried to combine a number of BGM's from the classic Gameboy game 'Volley Fire'. During development I noticed some easy to make connections with snippets from Starfox's Corneria theme, so I put those in as well. That gets us the following list: Stage Select (VF) Stage A (VF) Stage B (VF) Corneria (SF) I wanted to at least give the old source tunes a sound update and create a progressively expanding scene, adding more instruments, driven by a nice beat. I initially started playing around on the piano, going on my memory of the original tracks, but soon found out my memory was slightly off. But this created some nice variation that makes it a more true remix. What I'd Like Feedback On You should know that I have only started making music since november 2014. I have made a number of private compositions since, and this would be my second "completed" video game remix. I do not have professional music making software, but rather am using MuseScore2, which is a notation program. For that reason, I am not looking for feedback on the quality of sounds and instrument samples. I know these are lacking. Mastering is not too much of a concern at this point either, because the program isn't made to do that. Until I can invest in something like Fruity Loops, I want to limit the scope to other areas: Does the overall composition work? Do you think the transitions between sections are alright, or are they too sudden or weird? What would be a good way to transition them nicely so that it feels like a whole? Is the total length alright? Does the track have enough variety, keeping it interesting enough to listen to from beginning to end? What do you think of my use of the source material? Is it 'remixy' enough? I realize that sound quality and mastering might effect how you answers some of these questions, but hopefully this will be useful enough anyway. Thanks for taking the time to listen and respond! Looking forward to learning from you guys and becoming a better musician in the process. Remix Link Find the track on SoundCloud here: https://soundcloud.com/user-227517766/folly-fire-volley-fired-feedback-ready I'm naming it either "Folly Fire" or "Volley Fire'd", probably preferring the first. 3. This is a remix of "Cave 2" (Might and Magic 5: Dark side of Xeen). I originally did a similar mix for PRC. I switched the cowbells for bongos and added an Indian Raga drone in the background. I work hard on my remixes and like to make soundscapes with emphasis on melody, weird extra percussion, looping repetition, and slightly abrupt endings. Tell me what you guys think and how it can be improved. I may also put another mix on here later. Piece being remixed (for reference) Enjoy
  4. LAST SURPRISE chi(P5) (YOUTUBE) LAST SURPRISE chi(P5) (SOUNDCLOUD) First attempt at something remotely chiptuney lol. Faux-Chiptune if you will lol.
  5. This was one of those "pause and listen" tracks for me. The combination of the light-and-dark visuals and this dark, reverberating track caught me so off-guard in the best possible way. My brain was in a very Castlevania place...and out came this wild idea to take a slow, piano-heavy piece and make it high energy with Baroque-ish elements (sort of? I don't know what I'm talking about :P) Anyway, here's "Crescendo of Echoes". It's been through the editing process enough times to fry my brain. I'd appreciate any feedback you have!
  6. Remember! Reality is an illusion the universe is a hologram BUY GOLD BYEEE!
  7. I've always loved the soundtracks from Mega Man X series and it was also one of my favorite games. Got inspired and decided to try some Metal arranges for the tracks in this game. I know it's been done a lot, but rock/metal just fits soo well with the Megaman series. Hoping to get some feedback/thoughts for this track. Would love to hear what y'all think about the arrangement and instrumentation as this is some areas of improvement for me. The mixing part is not done yet and no eq and effects on the drums. Original I'm also working on more tracks from Mega Man X 1 and hope to compile those to make an album. Hope y'all enjoy it >:) \m/
  8. I wanted to produce a synthwave arrangement of the source but couldn't help using "organic" instruments for the leads and drums. I thought it could be interesting to try and find a right balance between synth and organic sounds -- keep those guitars, piano and drums and use only synths for the arrangements (which I'll start exploring way deeper when I find someone with a decent knowledge of synthwave music willing to help me ^^'). Original Source: Remix: I visualized Sonia telling her newborn son the tale of her adventures -- like it's a bedtime story -- when remixing this. Feel free to share feedbacks and whatnot :3
  9. I posted a track I believe over 2 years ago at this point, based the original Deus Ex soundtrack, had some useful conversations about it and then lost interest/faith in making it any better. Subsequently, I've revisited this, and now here's a thread about it. Scrapped probably about 75% of what I had before (because, I'll be honest, it was crap) and significantly reworked the remainder, plus a lot of new material, into a more focused and (I hope) competent piece. https://www.dropbox.com/s/3sreq6bbargy5lz/Combine.mp3?dl=0 Based on the UNATCO theme. Brief reference to Versalife - Conversation.
  10. Hello, Decided to give a try to Opening Stage theme from Megaman X, which is one of my favorite piece ever. I planned to go with an old funky 80's series vibe. Doesn't sound too bad as of now, though there's still a lot of work to do. What do you guys think ?

  13. Trying my hand at Electronica with possible my favorite S&K song of all time... Lava Reef / Hidden Palace Zone! S3&K was my favorite game and first game I ever owned (Yes I had both the S&K lock-on cartige and Sonic 3) growing up so I figured why not tip my hat to the game that made me love video games. Keep doing Great things SEGA!
  14. Hi everyone! Here my remix of Rutela's Theme. I use retro electronic sounds and vintage beatbox. Enjoy! Original :
  15. Hello Everybody! I am not new to VGM composing, but I'm new to remixing VGM, and new to this site too. So MY QUESTION is: Is it legal to make remixes of VGMs without permission? For ex.: How can I legally make say a Zelda VGM remix without Nintendo sueing me for not asking and because I don't have the permission of course? Thank you for your help! NOIZ Ctrl
  16. First, a bit of background: Currently there's a track going around in the dubstep community called "Like That" by a trio of 17-year-olds called Wavedash. The track has been used as an intro to almost every Skrillex concert back in the summer of 2016 (which makes of soooo jealous DX 'cuz they're freakin' 17), but until now it has never actually been released by OWSLA or NEST HQ, even though it was on the NEST Wavedash Visual Mix a while ago. Everyone's been desperately waiting for it, but recently on xTrill a user went and leaked a 320kps MP3 of the whole song AND the acapella of the vocals. So I thought What if I remixed this and put this online before the original track even gets out? Take that XD So here's what has come out so far, what do you guys think? https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1RmRwKRXmElcTBwRVYyMXM2VXM/view?usp=sharing Original track (at 3:26, there's more of the track but it's just not included in the video):
  17. Here is the tune: http://vocaroo.com/i/s0HBVVMkO8NM It's the Classic Super Mario Theme remixed. I just can't find the full version nor the name of who remixed it. Any help?
  18. Hello OCR! Long time! I have for you a house remix of the I used sidechaining in this mix for the first time, I would definitely like some reviews/feedback on this mix! Normally I won't work on covers and remixes anymore, but because of the use of new techniques, I am open to suggestions and directions. Thank you in advance, T-Ape
  19. (if i am breaking any forum rules, remove this post please) Hello, i am new on this forum, i'm 16 years old and i am looking for someone who thinks it's funny to remix and would like to remix a little short track for me to something bigger. I don't mix and i have no idea how to. I have been scavenging for a forum with a "remix request" section, i don't exactly expect anyone to do this for me (you won't get a reward), but it's worth a shot to ask: 2 years ago, i had this app to my ipad called autorap, in my school, i ran up with a mic and the ipad to a friend and asked to just rap the shit out of this goddamn beat, he owned it (considering he improvised), we were all hyped. So bla bla bla we all moved on with our lifes started on some new schools bla bla bla. Now, a few people from my old school are considering to arrange a reunion party, which is epic of course. The first thing one of them asked was "Yo lets hear F2's (his "callsign") rap all night long then and just party to it", so i replied "yo ill make a remix of it so we can actually party to it, its a bit short for partying and its not really the kind of song to party to". Of course i was just joking around, but then i thought "hmm, maybe there is people out there on the internet who just enjoys remixing random stuff". So, that lead me here, on this forum. ANYWAYS enough about my life story. I am requesting someone, to make a 2-4 minute remix of this little track: https://www.dropbox.com/s/c6tpwaoc2k2zcs8/Autorap track.wav?dl=0. As you can hear, the mic is bad, the recording is bad, there is some weird "click" sounds in the background and all that. All i am asking, is for someone to make a decent remix, it does not have to sound really good, just something with bass and a proper beat. I wouldn't be publishing this anywhere (no lawsuits for copyright issues and so on..), so, it would be totally fine if you mixed it with other party songs (whatever suits you guys best). This is probably a silly request, i don't expect anything, but as i said, it's worth a shot right? Best regards; Tor Jakobsen

  22. Happy New Year everybody! To celebrate, I'm releasing a brand new ReMix of the Naruto main theme: I will give a heads-up that this contains significant elements of DUBSTEP, but definitely not anything like dubstep you are probably familiar with. Whatever your tastes are, it's the new year, so let's try to keep an open mind to any and all music! As a background, I wrote a Naruto ReMix before, in 2012: I look back on it, and I really do still like what I did in 2012. The production wasn't particularly impactful, and the dubstep execution was only half-decent, but the composition was surprisingly good on the guitar. However, I realized that I could do *much* better today on the general production polish, as well as on the execution of dubstep. So, I wrote this while in my first semester of grad school, in three months, using mainly u-he Zebra2, Xfer Records Serum, 4Front TruePianos, Impact Soundworks' Juggernaut and Resonance libraries, and various commercial drum samples. This combines cinematic and dubstep aesthetics to create a nuanced, tasteful feel on the low-energy sections, and an aggressive, all-out soundscape on the drops. There was particularly special attention to detail on the dynamics, the "size" of the sound design, and just trying to get every aspect of this mix to be as polished as possible. As usual, I accept any and all opinions, but please keep them civil.
  23. Hi Here is my version of Collision Chaos Good Future JP/EU version of Sonic CD. I hope you will enjoy Original version :
  24. Hey OC Remix folks! We are DrKrake vs Jellyfish. We've been remixing video game music for quite a while (since 2009), but never really felt the itch to submit anything to OC Remix. Instead, we had a short-lived run on Newgrounds and mostly only uploaded our tracks on YouTube on random occasions. For this Christmas, we decided to release all of our stuff in a big free package and did so in the Super Musical Entertainment System!
