  1. Welp... only a few more days or so until release. I hope everyone is happy with this small album. Not as cool as that giant Castlevania one, I suppose, but still a fun little album. A nice mix of styles and some really good coverage of older, obscure games, which I'm always in favor of. Thanks again to everyone! Hope you guys like it!

  2. It's working! I have gotten a bunch of reviews on my tunes and that makes me happy. Also I'm working on a new review method.. Feel free to use the above as a signature. (If you can, host the file in your own space please..)

  6. I'll quote my album comments here. Additionally I want to say that I've been listening to this album for a long time now and I have to say that I love pretty much every single track. This is exactly what I had in mind when I came up with the concept of the album, but it's exactly the kind of album I could never pull off, even in a directorial role. Flex has such a great, deep understanding of EDM and tons of wonderful connections with artists from all around. I think we'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who could pull off an album with such consistency and originality throughout all of the tracks. Major props to all of the artists involved, especially the fresher faces we don't usually see at OC ReMix. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for bringing this idea to life.

  7. The People's Remix Competition 311 PRCv12-25 Hello everyone and Welcome to the People's Remix Competition! This is the last regular round of this season. 9. Echoing most of this. The mixing is rather poor with most things in the low register (bass, stabs, sine arp, piano, strings). You have something playing through out that I can't put my finger on what it is or what's playing, it's mostly on the left channel (you can hear it more around 1:08 but it plays through out), it's sounds interesting but it also sounds buried in a low pass filter. The drumloop does get stale after the first minute, you have the odd change up every now and then, but it's predominantly the same loop going on. You can do so much more with it, add a ride in a section of the song, add one-shot effects in some places, change up the loop every 2 or 4 loops, get creative. The ending I didn't really mind, though I find it curious that you have the original source play, or at least be some what audible at the end. It's not bad, but the poor mixing and stale drums keeps this from being great.

  10. I made some text layout tweaks, but otherwise everything's good on the art. 12/5's pretty tight, but I'll take the lead and do what I can to push it out. May be more like 12/6 US time, which is a little later, but doing my best!

  11. 15 down, 185 to go. Finally putting Excel to some use. I think the real benefit is hearing the Anti-Syne mix I never got around to, though.

  12. Oh yeah, drums! I used them in most of my newer remixes. So your suggestion has already been implemented Merci for the review!

  13. Maybe the vibraphone could have used a touch of treble reflections to help it mesh in a little better into the soundscape. Really classy chord progressions and performance. 1:35 - 1:44 in the piano was a highlight.

  14. Wow, what a unique cover! I didn't expect this theme to be covered in this way, but I simply can't get enough of it. It's super playful. And I'm also big fan of vibraphone, so this mix definitely satisfies my taste. And dat bass is pretty catchy as well. Very creative and groovy mix, love it.

  17. Wow, this is really funky/groovy. I love how Tim mixed the more funky elements with the dubstep/electro elements. The strings sounded a little weird at some points -- maybe it was harder to fit them in the more electro-oriented remix? Excellent arrangement, top production, but why is it so short?? Moar please, Tim, MOAR!

  19. I felt compelled to sign in and comment - something I rarely do - that this is probably one of the greatest arrangements of anything I've ever heard. This remix is amazing. I only wish more people could hear it.

  21. I'm loving this one, so many good tunes and interesting EDM styles represented here! I think I personally like it more when albums specifically go for a consistent theme and feel throughout; it really helps create a sense of unity between all the tracks. It's what I tried to do with 'Temporal Duality' to a certain extent. Nothing wrong with compilation albums, I just prefer a nice cohesive feel. I think this executed that idea flawlessly. I like all the tracks, but I've really been jamming to DDRKirby's, RobKTA's, and DJ RoboRob's tracks so far. Well done everyone!

  24. Ah, so Mr. Vania isn't doing piano-solo remixes only? The acoustic bass is a really nice addition here, it adds something classy to the track, which is fitting for a jazz remix. The guitar and melodic percussion (dulcimer/xylophone?) coming up later are also fine choices of instrumentation. Everything sounds good together -- an interesting take on yet another Castlevania classic! (May I suggest adding some soft drums next time? )

  26. Good work, Eino! This one’s just plain fun to listen to. The instruments are bouncing throughout the song. I especially liked what you did with the drums. They’re crunchy, eclectic, and really enjoyable. The song’s also, as Ivan and Lord Pretzel have said, the perfect opening track for the EP, and I can’t imagine the set without it.

  30. This is such a trippy song. Nice, though. I really don’t think the lead is meandering, even at its craziest points. It’s just a bit off-kilter. Or maybe I’m just off-kilter. There’s dissonance and a lot of tension to be found here, both rhythmic and melodic, but it all adds up to one insane track. I find it pretty difficult to properly apply this near-constant dissonance and tension, but you made it work. Somehow. Excellent work!

  31. Yay, it's back! OA, that's a really pretty typography you have there. Let's see how many awesome ReMixes I've been missing out on since my ReViewing sabbatical. This will be a fun month for music!

  32. While we don't have a way of just linking this in IPS yet, you can find remixes with the least amount of reviews by going to the forum and selecting the following options from the sort bar. Once we update the forums to IPS4, we'll be able to implement some custom activity streams where the least reviewed tracks will be available through a handy link.

  34. Electro-Swing! Electro-Swing! Electro-Swing! That opening...I can't help but see the needle drop on one of those old wind up gramophone record players, it just sounds so much like it's spinning, as matter of fact I feel like I'm spinning while I listen to this track and that guitar is the channeled spirit of Django Reinhardt, everything that is old is emulated perfectly and everything that is new is on point! I enjoyed dropping in on Felxstyle's twitch sessions when he was mixing this and I've been waiting for this one....must...resist....urge to...Charleston....

  36. Almost nobody on any side of this argument thinks that removing anything from the shelf is a viable end-goal. Critique such as Anita's that points out sexism in media (aside: please table specific citations from her -- I agree with some of her critique and I don't see sexism when she does in other specific instances) might encourage people to not buy sexist material, but nobody is forcing anyone to not make things. With specific regard to DoA Xtreme 3, Tecmo Koei can say whatever it wants about not wanting to bring over the game because of fear of backlash; whatever they say, negative news to a low-profile game is still making it in the news, which ultimately raises copies sold. It is simply that the previous games did not sell enough copies in the US to justify the release, period.

  37. Yeah... y'all are using the word "sexist" as if you all agreed on exactly what it means, in every context, and as if it were a box that can be easily checked off... and I think that's a huge part of the problem here - successfully extricating a fictional character or world's characteristics from an author's endorsement of those characteristics, looking at context, avoiding knee-jerk reactions, sussing out whether scantily-clad ANYTHING can ever be okay, etc.... these all take careful analysis. Building a long list of "YES THIS IS SEXIST - NEXT!!" characters, stories, environments, etc. without context and without looking at each a bit harder... really? Too much mind-reading, too much false dichotomy; best evaluated on a spectrum, and with an open mind, not as a checkbox, with certitude. That's what art deserves, and that's what artists deserve, and by golly, if we're gonna call video games art, we should act like it.

  40. No reviews yet? Well, then let me be the one to get it started in here. This a great little jam that uses crunchy instruments, guitars and a good low-fi rhythm beat to make something nice. For an album that has shown to already have great songs on it, this is a welcomed addition to that list. Great track, man.

  41. The mixing of chippy sounds, string hits and dubs makes for a really fun and interesting combination. I loved this back when the compo came about (that Disney twist made for a good story in the end), and I'm glad to hear it pass here. Great mixing of styles and of two great game sources.
