  1. This looks so cool. There should be a OCR Secret Santa Remix edition where people ask for remixes or something like that. That way people like me from countries far away could participate

  2. Hey guys, MindWanderer is starting a nice Castlevania compo à la DarkeSword/FenixDown (Mega Man and Final Fantasy Compos). It's buried under other compos and only 2-3 people already signed up for it. It'd be a shame not to have more contestants, especially seeing the number of people who entered Shariq's MM compos. Signups are closing in early January, so check it out quickly. (@Mods: It's maybe a little spammy, but other compos started recruiting in Community, so I guess it's okay to do the same -- sorry if it's not okay. Plus I'd be a sad panda if no one enters it ;))

  4. I absolutely loved it. What an amazing return to form for the series, and in and of itself just a great movie.

  5. I saw yesterday finally and thought it was great! All of the new characters were really cool, and they interacted well with the old ones. It was pretty much everything I was hoping for, and I am excited for the next one.

  8. I might be able and interested to be in this, but I've never played a Castlevania game and know nothing about the music. Are there any playlists or info on what all the available sources or games are?

  9. I'd totally LOVE that! I have a bunch of remix requests. I desire more Secret of Evermore remixes.

  10. Technically we only have two signups so far. Everyone get your picks in! Still a couple weeks before signups close. Hopefully some folks are just procrastinating.

  11. Well....I mean....I've been kicking around the idea of joining, but I want to be sure I can commit........(a moment of pensive reflection)........OK mark me down as in and if I can do it, great! If i can't well then that a victory for the other mixer.

  13. Yes, it does, it's in the flashback. Go watch the movie again. In fact, that's why Luke left in the first place. Too much shame.

  15. Finally saw it yesterday evening. I really liked it, but there were too many references to the original trilogy, just as if they were trying too hard. Other than that, it was very enjoyable. A strong 8/10.

  19. I like it, it brings back memories. The mixing is awesome, and it has a very different style that you don't hear very often. I really dig that funky vibe though, it's pretty awesome, and very much so fits with the material.

  20. As usual, you're right. The 'strange hiss' is the saw pad I'm using to sidechain with the kick. I somehow messed up my automation on that and it's totally out of control. However, adding a slow lowpass fadeout and cutting the 18Khz range off with an EQ makes it less evil on the ears until we're near the 2:00 ~ 2:22 mark when the drop hits. I'm replacing the last upload I made with this newer version, so no comparison this time. Oh and I'm not sure if I still have that '09 version. It's basically the same as the '13 version anyway.

  21. So you finally sub'd it, eh? I love it, the soundscape is awesome, the ear candy is real, and it's a really unique take on the source. Production is super tight too. I'll come back to this one a few times for sure!

  22. How is it a reboot? It references the previous trilogy in such a specific way. It's a sequel. It has Leia, Han, Chewie, and Luke, all played by their original actors, all older, decades later. Nothing is being rebooted (except maybe the Expanded Universe?).

  25. Man does no one remember that Kylo Ren was dealing with a fucking blaster wound during the last battle scene...? "HOW COME HE SUCK SO BAD" I'd probably fight like garbage too if I'd been fucking SHOT and was trying to like.. not bleed out, on top of dealing with what I assume is a lot of pain This is the only dueling scene in the entire movie, and he has a handicap. Of course he's going to fight like shit. On top of that, we have no idea how extensive his training has been, and it makes it seem like he's had hardly any formal force training and is instead just very force adept. I don't find this super hard to believe, since he's fully aware of his lineage and knows that the jedi/sith/force aren't just myths. There are plenty of people who are good at something with minimal (formal) training because they're aware of their affinity for it and have fostered their talents. There are plenty of musicians who fit the bill right here

  27. The sheer amount of drunk you had to be in order to not understand anything about this movie also yes didn't you miss the part where Rey was born out of incest between Luke and Leia? this isn't rocket science

  28. First off, thanks to @Txai for that catch - we really appreciate detail-oriented corrections With regards to circular profile pics... I had the same initial reaction when I first saw it on IPS. To their credit, they make it VERY easy to switch back to squared-off profile images - it's a single toggle on the theme settings, and presto. That being said, I'm used to it now, and when I switch back to squares it looks old, crusty, and wrong. Give it some time, @DarkeSword, and see what you think in a week or two. I could toggle it and I think you'd agree, the circles are actually kinda cool - also, beyond just being an aesthetic touch, they tell you that an image is a profile, helping the eye distinguish profiles from others types of images, and so they actually have a small (but not meaningless) usability benefit, in my opinion.

  29. i loved it. i thought kylo's performance was stellar - he's not some implacable foe (which we didn't need more of), he's this deeply conflicted dude who is not necessarily the strongest of jedi, or even the strongest dude. i mean, look at him, he looks like he should be cashiering at a discount shoe store, and he's trying to live up to this galactic badass. his acting was fantastic, if you recognize that being awkward and difficult to get along with and riding the struggle bus emotionally is good acting (in this case, it totally was). i love the concept of finn's character, as well as rey. i like that there wasn't one major character who realizes that they're going to save the galaxy and becomes awesome just in time to suck in the sequel. finn's groundwork is set for him to eventually be a hero, but they didn't need to make him blossom in this film, and that'll make it better when he eventually does. and rey's just phenomenal. great acting, great character, great job fitting the role and the actress, etc. i don't think it's strange at all that she was able to pick up concepts of the force quickly (it's not like they had her creating a lightsaber from scratch, the concept of imprinting your will on someone else is something everyone wishes for and 'practices' from young childhood), or that she was good at dueling since she had the stick and was obviously trained at it. once she remembered to draw from the force - which, according to ep 5, comes as naturally as breathing to someone who has the potential - her actions were fluid, defined, and not desperate at all. conceptually difficult to render on a screen but i'm sure that a well-written book would be able to make that be clearer without assistance. someone else mentioned how lived-in the world felt. i think that's a great way of putting where the initial series succeeded and the prequels failed. they were so sterile, and here it was much more realistic that the areas had existed for a long time. i loved it. i want to watch several more of it. i wish my thread (which started on thursday night!) was the main star wars thread though

  32. I got another present from my (still unknown) secret santa! It's a really cool Metroid print that I will be excited to put up in my craft room. Waiting on posting pics in case there is something else coming, or if the SS has a plan for revealing their identity!

  33. "YoshiBlade" a new comer to the OCR brings us a his rendition of SMW Castle Theme mixed with Castlevania. I suppose he thinks himself pretty clever with his write up? Using words not doubt gleaned from his Webster's word of the day calendar, throw about with the same grace as a dog who's gotten hold of a dictionary tearing it to shreds! But on to the music, if it can even be called that. We start with a simple expansive pad, almost certainly purchased from a reputable musician, ( I find it rather dubious this young man is capable of that kind of synth design), before we're introduced to a obnoxiously repetitive bass and a small sample of The Castle Center Theme from Castlevania...I bet he seems to think he can hide his hobbled musicianship by playing a small snippet of actual music, rather than utilizing MIDI flies to hide his naked failure as even the most amateur pianist. The voices are actually sampled quite well...were it 1994. As to his use of lead instrument, I'm curious if here is even aware of the difference between a square wave or a sine wave? Or to the proper use of either one?! Then he introduces some more glitchy aspects, though I am having a hard time determining if this is intentional or a product of his total lack of understanding of even the most basic production techniques...Upon hearing these I was granted a small amount of relief, as I thought I received a corrupted copy and thus would have a reason to NOT review this utter swill, however it seems these glitchy aspects are intentional. Or I'm sure he likes to think. I may seem like I'm droning on, but not nearly as droning as his choice of loop, an obvious loop as even the most basic beat structure is as foreign to his ears, this track is to decent taste ...I wonder Mr. YoshiBlade, how much did you spend to on loops to prop up your obvious failings as a musician and human being, hmm? and then we approach a vocal sample Oh-Ho, Yes indeed Mr.YoshiBlade you know how to sample a voice, bravo, Im sure you sat smugly at your computer when you made this, no doubt stroking your overblown ego, with your own brand of praise. Pray Tell, was it difficult to press record than play? Or perhaps you kept forgetting which in which order to do so,hmm? I shan't even waste my time with his piddling ending, no doubt a portent of his career on the OCR short, lackluster and lazy! Let us hope this is the last we hear of this Mr. YoshiBlade. I return to my warm Bree and Burgundian Chablis, disgusted with the depth at which Video Game Remixes have stooped to!
